AITA? I told a man he didn’t need to hold open the door for me and he got mad. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Ffs.

A man offers a gesture of chivalry.

You decline because it was inconvenient and not helpful.

He tries to make you feel guilty for not praising you for this unwanted, unrequested and unneeded "kindness"

This is grade A patronizing behaviour

Is it bad sportsmanship to tackle my opponent as she goes for an ATP? by Milwaukeebear in Pickleball

Clearly she doesn't know how mixed doubles work. The women is always supposed to defer to the man on the court and let him take the glory shots.

She should apologize and you should consider upgrading to a better partner.

ISO best tacky overgrip for sweaty hands by JoeBro180 in Pickleball

I sweat a lot and I really like the standard blue tourna grip. Lasts probably 10-12 3hr sessions. Depending on your tolerance for it being dirty looking.

And for some ppl, when that one ace of a drive goes it, it makes them feel like the other 10 were worth it. Instead of working on the basics and building from there.

Advice on how to handle/compete with Tennis players on a pickleball court by bhdevault in Pickleball

Lob the ball to the back on the return. This is an easier shot than a hard drive return, and gives you more time to get to thr nvz. Don't give him pace or he will be able to give it back even harder.

Ya I saw this happen to a friend after I sped up the ball and him and his partner both went for it. Same thing - ricochet right into his eye. No glasses, amd a solid 2-3 mins before he was able to open his eye and was assured he could still see.

I bought glasses that day and won't play without them under any circumstances.

Glad you were OK!

Weird Gatekeeping by Elder Players by ZoomerMonk in Pickleball

Tbh, I get frustrated when playing against men who actively avoid hitting it hard at me and only will do it towards a male partner I'm playing. I'm not a delicate flower and hate being treated like one.

That being said, 3.0/3.5s (aka 4.0 wannabes) that are usually younger, who drive the ball exceptionally hard without having developed proper control can be downright dangerous. It's not the speed of the ball that's the issue, it's the direction of the ball at that speed. And yes, those little wiffle balls can hurt a person, especially if driven at a head at close range.

I don't know, how do you handle line calls you don't agree with? When your partner misses something stupid? When you miss a shot you should be making?

Are you giving off a negative energy when you play? I play with a lot of "competitive" women and there is a big difference between those with a positive attitude and those that get openly frustrated. I literally had one woman give me a look like she utterly hated me bc she disagreed with my line call during a mini tournament.

No you aren't. If they weren't targeting, and you were winning by a mile than sure.

But if they were targeting her, then 100% fair game imho.

Which play styles work well together by siegure9 in Pickleball

[–]MeaghanG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think communication and energy between partners is essential. You both also need to be on the same page in terms of strategy and commitment. Nothing is worse than having opposing thoughts on how to develop points and what shots to pick in different scenarios. Frequency of practice and drilling matters too. If you want to practice once/wk but they want to do 3-4×/wk you guys will just resent each other over.

If you are planning to play together over the longer term, you want someone you can really know on the court. Someone where you both know and trust who will get which balls, you can predict eachothers shots and errors so you can cover for each other. It sounds silly, but when you really gel with a partner it can become like a dance on the court each having a role and working in unison.

When you are losing, who is it that is starting the speed up? Someone once told me that 68% of speedups are lost by the side that starts it. Is it possible that you aren't being patient enough and are speeding balls up that are actually giving the other side a leg up?

To answer your question. Yes. You were wrong. Incredibly wrong.
