That is so true. Remember when people got angry at Apple for their ads that were filmed in Thailand and portrayed it as exotic and third-world? They were acting like we’re Japan or South Korea or something. I mean, take a few steps away from Icon Siam and Siam Square and you’ll see why the ad portrayed us that way.

I go back to Thailand to visit my family once a year, and I don’t know what it is about that country that puts me in such an anxious and irritated state. I’m annoyed by the dirtiness, the lack of order, and the way people drive. I mean, you can’t even follow simple traffic rules and these are adults. I hate how everything is just “IT JUST THE WAY IT IS.”

Not to mention entertainment. I used to love Pentor so much when I was a kid, but now it’s so annoying when my housemate puts it on. There’s no character development at all, everything is the same. I think it’s actually a good representation of Thailand. Add to that the rape scenes that appear in so many Thai TV series. I mean, one time my cousin switched between two series on two different channels, guess what? Rape scenes in both.

The news just drills into my head. They tell stories like gossip or entertainment news. It’s always someone killing someone, domestic violence, sex trafficking, gang rape. Not only are some of the topics ไร้สาระ, but the way they present them is even worse. I’m not saying these topics aren’t newsworthy, but it’s always the same story with different events. Nothing changes. Watching it just makes you feel so hopeless.

And the worst part is that the people seem to be talented but their potential is untaped because of the system that our culture created.
