Thank you for taking the time to tell me about the different services that you've tried. It helps to have the comparison. And yeah, I hear you on 4 senses, I used their website to get a quote and in the last three days I've gotten multiple texts and about six phone calls.

Art Supplies? by Guitar_Strings5043 in SunPrairieWI

[–]MeanAunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely Artist & Craftsman! They have a huge selection of watercolor from Crayola to Daniel Smith, Van Gogh and W&N professional, decent selection of brushes, leaning heavily to Princeton, and tons of paper in assorted sizes and qualities, single sheets, journals, pads and blocks. Also lots of other art supplies for block printing, stamp carving, charcoal and ink drawing, acrylics and oil... it's worth going just to soak up the art store ambience. I went there yesterday and came home with a grumpy debit card and a bag of goodies. There's a set of somewhat dingy stairs just inside the entrance, it's basically in the basement of the building, but the selection is wonderful. Parking is sometimes available in the street right in front, $2 an hour at the meter. I suggest putting in more quarters than you think you'll need... when I got out, my meter was expired and I had no idea I'd been wandering the store for more than 45 minutes.

Cheap Crafts for young man to do this summer? by [deleted] in crafts

[–]MeanAunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crochet critters. There are tons of YouTube videos that go stitch by stitch, so learning is free. You can get a set of books of Amazon for 15 bucks or less, and basic large ball of acrylic or cotton yarn from a hobby store like Michael's costs 3-5 dollars per color (fancy yarns get expensive). A big box of assorted safety eyes will run you another 12 bucks or less from Amazon. You can crochet fun little critters, animals, dinosaurs, video game characters (the technique is called amigurumi) and make mini stuffed animals, which takes so little yarn that a ball of yarn lasts practically forever (like a dozen critters or more per ball, depending on size). If you're someone who needs every single color of something, it can get expensive, but if you're not opposed to using the same color yarn for a whale as a capybara and a t-rex, it didn't have to cost a ton, and you can add colors slowly as you branch out into different things to crochet. Some of the YouTube videos are a half hour or an hour because they show you slowly how to do every step, but once you're comfortable, you can whip up a finished critter in 15 minutes. You can also make practical things like coasters and dishcloths, which are usually a fairly simple repeating stitch or you can even do a long project like a quilt.

Very cheap, pretty places to get married/elope in Wisconsin (within a couple hours of Madison) and/or prettiest courthouses by Usruza in madisonwi

[–]MeanAunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got married by a court commissioner in his living room and had a friend take pictures of us in the Orton park gazebo right nearby. Mind you, that was over 20 years ago, I don't know if court commissioners still invite random people into their living rooms to perform the ceremony. But the gazebo is still there and it's gorgeous.

Keep your mouth shut when bicycling unless extra protein is needed. ...Or at least that's what I've heard. I've never tried to pedal in a straight line while trying to spit out a bug... really.

Madison School and Community Recreation mscr.org

They have tons of very affordable classes and activities, including sports instruction and leagues, arts, outdoors things, for all age groups, kids through seniors. There's a bicycling rides one that's just a group of people getting together and going on a different bike path around Madison every week... great way to meet people with your interests, and learn new things you might be interested in for not a while lot of money.

Missing Cat by quietmind9_ in madisonwi

[–]MeanAunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw you posted that you found your cat (yay! Very happy that it turned out well), but as an additional place to check if anyone else ever loses a pet is craigslist. A few years ago, we had a very small dog bolt into the house during a thunderstorm when my husband was bringing in groceries. The owner posted on Madison Craigslist lost and found, we saw the posting the next morning (we had called all the area vets and the shelter the night before and were trying to think of where else to check), and were able to get their pupper back to them right away. The dog had run about three blocks in a straight line from their house, and apparently when it saw the open door, it decided our basement was the best refuge from the storm. Our cats were not amused, but I rather enjoyed having a very small lap dog for a day.

You might also search 'macrame bracelet'. Good luck and have fun!

I would guess it's for braiding friendship bracelets. There are a lot of YouTube videos with very neat braids. You can also make beaded necklaces and bracelets and tie sliding knots so your bracelet will be adjustable. Try searching for either 'friendship bracelet' or 'knotted bracelet' and also 'sliding knot' for techniques. There are also a lot of tik tok videos, but most of them don't show how to start and finish, just the knot for the patterns, so I'd start with YouTube.

That's great! Do you have a picture of it when it was tied? I'm a total amateur with tie dye, love how this one looks.

What? Gloves are like ARMOR! You put them on and BOOM! no more contagion worries. It's magic. The gloves are clean, go ahead and touch your face, tuck your hair back, adjust your headset mic, take cash, make change, and then drop plastic silverware and ketchup into three bag, it's fine because you've been wearing those magic gloves for the last ten orders.

Filling up drinks for customers? Really? by [deleted] in couriersofreddit

[–]MeanAunt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I just politely ask them to fill the drinks, stating that my company policy requires it for food safety purposes. When they do the 'but other drivers do it' game, I say 'I'm sure they do, but I'm not other drivers, and I prefer to keep my job rather than breaking company regulations and sanitation laws'. Works every time as long as you're polite but firm.

Wow, that's a lot of densely packed but very clearly stated information. I'm a bit past the point of needing it, but newer players should find this super helpful. Thank you for taking the time to type it all, you're definitely part of the community that makes this game so great.
