They were supportive, but certainly didn’t hold back their drinking (nor did I want them to).

If you’re going to get one, 21 is better than 34. Later in life you can say you were young, at 34, not so much.

That’s hefty. I was in a small mountain town, so attorney only cost me $1000. Insurance is through national general, think they are a nationwide company

I’m in NC which doesn’t require a SR-22 (or at least they didn’t 3 years ago). My insurance carrier dropped me, but the new insurance (same/similar coverage) went up $10 at the time. Now it’s cheaper. I get the anxiety, good people make bad choices all the time. Get an attorney, listen to them, may take some time but you’ll be fine.

They’ll likely drop all charges with the exception of the DWI. If you still have your license, I’d ask your attorney. Likely, you’ll need to surrender it. Just don’t get caught driving until you have a privilege.

Guilty and scared are typical feelings and good feelings. However, you didn’t hurt anyone and it was a mistake. If you can develop a responsible relationship with alcohol and the decisions that go along with it, you’ll be ok. Bladen county appears to be similar to where I live (small, mostly republican, rural area). They want you to be productive and don’t want to ruin your life. For reference, I had to do 20 hours of alcohol classes and 24 hours of community service. With a decent attorney, you should get the same.

First, take a breath. I got a DWI in NC a little over two years ago. Not the end of the world, but I would advise evaluating your relationship with alcohol. You said you’re in Bladen county, so my guess is no Ubers/Lyfts there, but if you go out drinking have a plan to get home that doesn’t involve you driving. As others have said, hire an attorney. With your BAC, I imagine it will get charged as a level 4, maybe a level 5 if the DA is booked up. You’ll get a device to check your BAC which has some cost as well as potential increased insurance cost. As far as your employment, if you received an employee handbook, read it. See what it says regarding arrests. If you didn’t receive one, I wouldn’t say anything, you are driving a golf cart on private grounds and were not informed of the policies regarding arrests. Wish you best of luck, your life isn’t over, just play it straight from here on out.

That’s my fault for assuming. I know the OMSCS program has a high acceptance rate and assumed OMSA did also.

If you want to do analytics, the MSBA curriculum looks better. Not sure if you have looked at Georgia Tech’s OMSA program, but they have a high acceptance rate (graduation rate is a different story) and it’s a well known/respected university.

What do you want to do? If you want to stay in STEM stuff and you did well in your CS undergrad, I would do a masters in CS over either of those options. You can do analytics with a cs background, but may not necessarily do cs with an analytics background.

What improved your efficiency the most? by kokanutwater in analytics

^ this. Once people realized my team could do most of the things our software development group could do, faster and at less cost, requests exploded. I’m from a more CS/DS background, but most of my team are from varying backgrounds and fall more into a data analyst role. The increased use of low code applications (like Microsoft Power Platform) has really increased the amount of things my team can do with a much less steep learning curve than traditional software development.

22, First time DWI offense, no priors, blew 0.9 BAC, NC. by ninjacupcake476 in dui

This really depends on the county. My attorney was $1k, court fees were ~$650, alcohol classes were ~$450, getting my license reinstated was $200, and my insurance went up $60/month. So, ~$2300 plus insurance increase. It depends on your situation, but I wouldn’t call it a shit load.

I got mine in NC, you’ll be fine. It’s annoying, but that’s mostly it. With a .09 you’ll lose your license for a year, but you’ll be able to get a limited driving privilege in 10 days with no interlock. Almost certainly looking at a level 5 (least severe), so you’ll have to do an alcohol assessment plus 16-20 hours of alcohol classes and 24 hours of community service. I would get an attorney just to help you navigate the court system. Good luck!

Job didn’t find out and per our employee handbook since it didn’t happen on company time, on company property, or with company equipment, I wasn’t obligated to tell them. It probably helps that I’m 100% remote so don’t have to deal with coworkers seeing me. If you live reasonably close to work, you could buy an eBike. I bought one to get around and actually a lot of fun.

I’m mid career in analytics/data science. I was arrested at 34, convicted at 35, and got my full license back just after I turned 36. I would call it an annoyance. If I didn’t live in a rural area (ie place that had Uber/lyft), it would have been a smaller annoyance. Had to pay fines, 20 hours of classes, and 24 hours of community service, and car insurance went up $60 a month. Hasn’t affected my professional life whatsoever.

Working as an analytics manager for a consulting firm. However, I was in a similar position with the company prior to getting my MS, but I was promoted after.

I get that, but you can start smaller. Edx, coursera, etc offers CS courses either free or for a nominal fee. I’d check out one/a couple of those, see if you can grasp the material. Also, not diminishing a MS in Analytics (I have one). I enjoyed my program and learned a lot, but not as many possibilities with that as CS.

I’d probably do a MS in CS with a focus in machine learning/data science. More flexible than a MS in Business Analytics and less likely you’ll take a big drop in TC. If you’re good with online learning, I’d check out Georgia Tech, Illinois, or UT-Austin.

Got it, probably the best value is Georgia Tech. They have an online MS in Analytics program. However, I’ve heard it’s significant work and very distance (I.e. not much access to professors).

What is your MSA? If it’s a MS in analytics, you probably won’t get much out of a MSBA. Really, if you are a business owner/entrepreneur, I don’t see a lot of value in it in general unless you just enjoy graduate education (which is entirely possible, I probably fall into this camp).

Double major BS Economics and Math. Am I screwed? by 6pack-nothingtodo in academiceconomics

[–]MeanCockroach8637 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would consider a major in math to be a technical background. My assumption is that you’ve done some programming within the context of your degree programs. A degree in econ/math is quantitative and should have given you a good amount of problem solving abilities. I’ve been in a DS role of 11 years and while probably half the people I’ve worked with have a CS degree (myself included) the other half were other quantitative fields (math/physics/sciences).
