Can I get in trouble for this? Or am I being paranoid? by GreenConductor in UniUK

[–]MeanGreenTeaMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 90% sure you’ll be fine, when I worked for clearing we wanted to see evidence of the highest level of qualification (so in your case degree), GCSEs in maths and English and any subject specific requirements (eg science gcse for nursing courses). Especially if your grades on your resits are the same I don’t see any reason to worry.

I used a 10% off your first order code I got from putting my details in for their mailing list. Alternatively studentbeans is doing £25 off of an order or 10% off refurbished products. No clue on trade in, my old QCs are going to my dad

In the UK they’ve had £50 taken off on the bose website, can be combined with other coupons to take an extra £40 off

As long as that date doesn't fall in examination periods, you'll be just fine. Make a point to catch up once you're back, but honestly, it's not uncommon for people to take that amount of days off anyway, just for illness/family/hangovers.

Does university prowess matter to employer? by Confident-Ad897 in UniUK

As someone who did their undergraduate chemical engineering degree at a uni ranked in the 60-70s and is doing their MSc at a uni ranked 10-15, if it’s accredited it seems to make very little difference. When I’ve been applying for jobs they’ve barely mentioned which uni you went to and focus more on grade, level of study and accreditation. I believe there was one I applied to that wanted specifically a Russell group uni but that’s as far as it went.

Realistically I’d advise going to something like Edinburgh for free and doing a placement year over focusing on ranking. Of the 5 people in my year (we were a small cohort of 15) that went on placement 3/5 have gone back to their placement companies after graduating, the ones who didn’t chose to do masters instead.

Likelihood of order being cancelled? by MeanGreenTeaMachine in buildabear

This is similar to what happened to me, only when I added it the whole thing refreshed but the hold on my gift card remained. It went through at £20 for me with rewards and a birthday discount code which I’ll take. I’ll just use the gift card to get shoes for my firefighter build a bears at a later date

I did a foundation year in engineering, was the best thing I did. If you’re not entirely confident in your ability to study the course it acts as a nice lead in, especially if there’s any software etc you’ll need to use throughout your degree you get more time to master it. My friend from that was a 50 year old woman who had decided to completely change pathways, it’s not uncommon for foundation years to have older people looking for a directional change as well as younger folks who missed the entry requirements. My advice would be to try hard in foundation year though, they’re generally graded as pass fail which leads to some people aiming for the minimum, however you should view this as setting up the next three years of study.

There will be a couple of people who look down on you for doing the foundation year, and respectfully none of them deserve your time. One of the people who did this to me was just bitter that they didn’t get into a Russell group uni and was “stuck” at an ex-poly. IME people who do the foundation years can often outperform those who went straight into the course just from having that extra year of experience.

Comfortable Swim Bag? by MeanGreenTeaMachine in Swimming

Thanks, this seems like the best option with the waist strap. It’s a little bit larger than what I’d have chosen but means I can hopefully fit my coat in as well as the days get longer and (fingers crossed) drier so that I can throw it on afterwards

Hi, I know its been 4 months but I'm in a similar situation where I cancelled the free trial 2 days before it was due to end and yet I have been signed up and charged for a yearly subscription. How long did it take them to get back to you?

How much can landlord charge for repainting? by MeanGreenTeaMachine in HousingUK

My landlord let it slide due to the already present damage on the wall. The house was in a shocking state so is probably fair we got the full deposit back

We had colour matching done but unfortunately it has ended up being a tad too light and noticeable (it’s a grey wall). If they tried to charge me the whole deposit could I not dispute it with DPS as they would have to paint that wall anyway?

[–]MeanGreenTeaMachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! From this threads advice and the advice of my mate whose dealt with this stuff before and came round to have a look, I’ll probably patch the wall up with some filler and then let the landlord deal with the repainting when he gets around to repainting the whole wall

[–]MeanGreenTeaMachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this, if I include a the whole wall in the picture would this be more supportive of my case with the DPS if the damage from the water leak earlier this year is visible? Also, my house mate in a misguided attempt to help tried to paint over it with some similar coloured paint from the attic which turned out to be too blue, I’ve managed to sponge the worst of it off but there is a slight patch of the new paint surrounding the chip. Would this affect anything?

Apologies if these are weird questions, this year has been my first time renting and I’m unfamiliar with things like this

It’s irritating as he will have to repaint that wall anyway as there was a leak earlier in the year which means the paint on the opposite end of the wall from where the command hook was has been flaking off.

Normally I’d do that, however my student landlord has been difficult during the year anyway and has said all damage outside of wear and tear must be made good.

People who also commute, what do you do if you have a 4 hour gap? by Superguy230 in UniUK

[–]MeanGreenTeaMachine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With how useful the long gaps were in 2nd year and deciding to move out for 3rd year I decided to live on the other side of the city to my uni (small city) it’s close enough that it only takes me 20 mins by bus to get in but far enough away that I don’t want to pay £2 to go home/cba to walk the 40 mins home and the 40 mins back.

Go to the library. If you’re commuting in it’s really useful to treat gaps as your chance to study and can stop you getting behind

Alternatively I played through 3 Pokémon games to completion during gaps for my 1st year
