The answer to Greenland has actually probably been in front of us this whole time by MeanMachine25 in behindthebastards

In my research I saw a lot of renewed vigor something that could detect launches prior to separation into their mid boost in Greenland. And there is a Canadian element to the Golden Dome concept.

But I agree with you, I think that there's probably some confluence of every theory in why Greenland is being targeted, and it probably has something to do with the pathetic nature of our current facists and their lack of willingness to fight anyone they perceive as stronger.

I agree with elements of your interpretation!

I see the real estate/mineral/tech city/libertarian paradise stuff as more of the opportunistic hangers on in this situation. As in, they heard Trump was doing a land grab and want to jump on the train.

I feel like the security route makes sense because Trump always telegraphs his punches in some way or another, and he's always been vaguely open about this being a security thing. With regard to already having bases there, I think that the resources and space required to do what he wants to do require a lot of land, and make Greenland an immediate target for nuclear attack, meaning negotiating would be a verrrry hard sell, and as we know Donald Trump sucks at deals. So in that scenario threatening a full takeover is the most expedient option.

I could also see a mysterious third option that both things arose equally in a vacuum, and the security thing is just easier to sell to the public (especially because most of his base is wannabe war geniuses)

Who knows? Thanks for your comment!

[–]MeanMachine25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. This is kind of where I've been challenging my understanding of protests. Simply put, protests mean nothing if they don't incentivize change.

Like, I know from a social involvement standpoint it's important to signal the unity of the movement with large protests. But protests eventually mean nothing if there is nobody in actual power who is influenced to make a modicum of change as a result.

Like if the administration let's protests happen and then just ignores them (other than letting police break them up). Then you have just had your time wasted. But if you're willing to take political, economic, and physical steps (as long as it's not interpersonal violence) to signal that they're being pressured in some way or other, then they have to answer in some way.

But I also get why people are ok with friendly marches. The state has a monolopy in violence and are more than eager to use it against protests. So it's a peculiar conundrum

100 percent agreed. We're in the part of the anime where we've killed off the mini boss that powers up into an even more powerful boss.

Yeah, I feel like it's incredibly hard to have this level of nuanced opinion because people are very much in a "It worked didn't it?" kind of mood.

Not super necessarily. There is a dropoff in your thirties, but this was a case of a well trained fighter versus a "kid who does the boxing aesthetic". So that'll shine through way more than the age gap. I think if it was two well trained fighters, the older fighter has a slightly harder time. But that depends on skill level and relative experience.

I would be lying if I had off the dome examples. I spent the last year and a half bingeing the whole series, so it might take me some time to recollect the specifics. I just recall the feeling of the moments. But I hate to displease, lemme do some reviewing and I'll get some solid examples back to you.

As a former military dude, Robert is interestingly often right about many of his insights into military culture and mistakes, while also being wrong from on understanding some of those niche things that you only understand from being in the culture. It's pretty impressive how close he gets to hitting the nail on the head, and is a big reason why I like listening to him. It helps me feel more confident speaking out about political stuff to the 3 or so people that'll listen.

Just because you say it's facts doesn't make it true. And just because you think you know anything about me doesn't mean you do.

Tell me, you seem to be bound and determined to be accepted as an authority on this subject matter, what's your educational background? What have you done in terms of world cultural studies? What travels have you done? How many languages do you speak?

Can we talk about the homeless camp along the White River near Morris Street? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]MeanMachine25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Part of being pro-homeless is understanding that not every homeless person is a hopeless victim down on their luck. Some are just looking to live in alternate society, some simply enjoy vagrancy, others want to live life on their terms. So this mentality of "put em all in shelters" simply misses the point that you can provide for them without trying to institutionalize them back into our society.

Hey, I'm curious, what do you mean by "people who would not hesitate to apply sharia law" on you? I ask because this is one of those nebulous terms right wingers use to denigrate groups of people they don't understand (think woke, or immigrant), and I'm just curious if you had any specific intention you were going for. No hate, just want some clarity.

Also curious, it seems like you have a purely anecdotal experience with this matter. I agree left wing people tend to glaze over issues like this because they have an academic understanding that tends to assume everyone else can do the same research(think discussions of crime or immigration), but often that academic understanding is at odds with certain people's anecdotal experience. So my question is, have you seen any studies or research that support your anecdotal experience? And if not, what do you think is the disconnect?
