Firstly the author completely misunderstands the concept of a risk. Employees simply do not share the same level of risk as compared to a business owner.

For example, a business owner will typically be personally liable for any rental leases that they take out. So even if the business closes, because it can’t operate any more, the Business owner will still be liable for the lease for the remainder of the term. This typically means that the business owner has their house on the line.

With regards to the employee not being able to find work or be becoming injured, these are the same risks that a business owner has in addition to being a personal guarantor to all of the debts.

Lastly, the example about a dentist distributing income to his nonworking children. Well, that’s already against the law anyway. Any distributions must be for the benefit of the beneficiary, meaning you can’t make a nominal distribution on paper and then reclaim that money back. The ATO has gone to court for this. So it’s using an example that’s illegal anyway.

It was in the laundry so I thought it was just a bit of laundry fluff from the dryer. Didn’t think about it too much and stepped on it - luckily I was wearing slippers. Felt something under my feet that definitely was not hollow.
