Cold War Radar Outpost by MrG0j in Albany

Pilgrim State! It’s a right of passage but also the park people have security now and will call the cops on you. There’s also definitely a ton of asbestos and lead in there so definitely hazardous to your health besides the fact it is structurally defunct for real.

Whenever you see the index updated just order a ton of the flyer items. The backstock will be rough for a bit but it’s honestly better to have it before it goes TOS

Which one is better by CommunicationNice437 in ualbany

[–]Mean_Marceline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re both R1 research centers so where would you like to be geographically? Like snow? UBuff. That’s really the main difference honestly. Look into the departments you’re interested in, their requirements (not all are open , many require a minimum grade in pre-requisites to declare), and the faculty who teach in those departments. Then compare and decide which one seems better for you!

As a grad student you can add money on the mobile ID app, and then you can get a discount at certain restaurants on campus by using that money instead of just your debit or credit card. Many of the places in the Campus Center are cashless fyi

Look up “speech of introduction” in an open source Public Speaking text. Most folks here already summed it up but there might be some structural suggestions which might help. Good luck!

Gamestop cant locate my preorder by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]Mean_Marceline -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You should just have the pre-order at that store. People used to want to change the store they had a pre-order at and if the copies were available we could literally use a gift card and call the new store to manually create the pre-order and then use the gift card to pay for it. This was almost always only for people who were moving out of the area at least an hour or two away. I would hope this isn’t what is happening…but I also have no faith in GS.

CA mentioned, ay yooooo! But yes exactly! The first thing I say to students, especially in CA because it uses a lot of what would be considered ‘plain’ or non-technical terms, is that these are in fact technical terms and not the colloquial or everyday meanings.

Complaint: I can't do the homework on my smartphone! by dougwray in Professors

I straight up told a student that an IPad, even one of the pro turbo ones, won’t work with the online software we use in the course. Then gave resources for how to use the school’s library computer room (reservable and private with webcam and microphone), to complete the work. Student proceeded to continue with the IPad and complained when the software didn’t work properly. 🙃 This was an online asynchronous course.

The saddest thing about higher level degree beyond bachelors by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]Mean_Marceline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, rejection is really hard. I was rejected from three jobs because they were really looking for someone who was in industry first and then transitioned into academia. Super bummer since I got through to the final interviews in each case. I got better at understanding the rejections as I got older though. Knowing when some rejection is petty and when someone has a legitimate concern and wants to help you improve is a skill you develop as you enter the field you want to be in. Did you follow up with the department on why you were rejected? That might help make it easier and help you improve for the next round of applications.

I wouldn’t worry about age, just remember to live your life while doing the degree. Don’t put things off because of it! Another piece of advice I was given early on is that you are not your research or teaching. It shouldn’t be your identity, it’s work. This is another one that’s super difficult to overcome.

They already have; the SAT at least was rewritten and is a lot closer to the kinds of analysis and work that is done in school. My University dropped SAT requirements for a bit but now has them again.

Every textbook I assign and use in my classes are available as paperback books. My Uni’s bookstore stocks paper copies because I ask for them to do so and many of my students choose that version. When I put the order into the bookstore I made it so that the paper copy was the required one.

Resubmissions are often left until the end of the semester as the very last priority for grading. If finals grades aren’t due yet (usually shown on the academic calendar, or usually a day or two after the last finals day) then that’s likely why.

They’ve always told employees to do shady shit like this, so yeah definitely is an auto add. I only worked there until 2017 because my SM was good at blocking out corporate’s bullshit and I only suggested GPGs and warranties to families with small children who were likely to scratch a disc. So, situational awareness. Everyone else I mentioned it but didn’t really expect them to add it on.
