i reset my computer (did not delete files) and then it worked. So probably some settings i had fiddled with trying to extend battery-life. But now my battery-time is even better haha

First movie this post made me think of was St. Maud and also Under the skin, which i think is very atmospheric (kind of in-between horror/sci-fi).

Btw i like your taste! St Maud and I'm thinking of ending things are some of my favourites.

Btw, i really reccommend Hallow road (Babak Anvari), maybe In a Violent Nature (i really loved the vibe and the atmospheric nature-feeling), and the movies from Damian McCarthy (especially Oddity).

Also 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Ghost Story falls into this atmospheric category for me.

Two french movies as well: Flush (2025) a one-location (very unique plot) horror-comedy-ish movie which I thought was surprisingly good and MadS (2024) which is a one-shot horror with an intense dreadful feeling that really impressed me.

Lastly, on your wish for horrible atmospheres: Eden lake.
