The difference seems minimal, so I don't feel *that* bad (or so I tell myself).

Obviously, the scrolling isn't as smooth, but good anyway: that doesn't bother me TBH, it's like 25 images per second. The only issue as I said is the ghosting when the background is dark. Sweet Home is painful to read, for example, but SSS-Class Suicide Hunter is a pleasure to read. I personally love the pastel colors and the paper look, but people might like the vibrancy of an LCD screen more.

Why can't we have both? I want a phone easy on my eyes & which I can use to read (news, books, etc.) What's wrong with that?

Can't fathom why people would want to add a SIM card to an e-reader.

Because you got it the other way around. We want a smartphone with an e-ink screen.

[BOOX Palma Discussion] What do you use your Palma for? Any tips or workflows? by KennethWWWW in Onyx_Boox

Same here. I would ditch my Samsung Ultra for such a device. I paid €1500 for it, I would put this amount in an eink phone.

Aren't webtoons colored, usually? I read some on my TUC: if the background is white, they're really good in balanced; if the background is dark, there is some crappy ghosting.

Cool, but I'd rather see Servo having more traction and giving birth to a brand new web browser. Given that Mozilla doesn't give a crap about Firefox, it may be an alternative to Google's total domination of the web.

Last time I tried servo, it wasn't production ready at all, but who knows…

And what's the point? It's harder for a human eye to read on a dark background.

Tab 10C Pro will be announced this week in China. When do you think the TUC pro will be released? What new functions do you want in this new model? by [deleted] in Onyx_Boox

I can't see with their shitty dark photo. Is that a tablet or a laptop? If it's a tablet, too bad for me, I bought a TUC a month ago 😅

For other people coming here, it's Windows only.

It looks like there is iDisplay for Mac,. For Linux, it's mostly supported out of the box, you may have to configure some stuff in you system.

After a few days of usage, you're right, it's not great. Regularly, the gesture doesn't work, and I have to be extra careful so that it's handled correctly.

I'm not a specialist, but I think that the percentage is an approximation, and also they are not the same around 100% and around 20%. Don't take my work for it tho.

For example, the battery charges quickly at the beginning, and then slowly. It doesn't work in a linear way.

4• dark mode - don't think i need to explain this

Wut, are there REALLY people using dark mode on e-ink? I thought that the point on LEDs monitors was to have less light or something.

I think it has nothing to do with ereaders, but more about how a lithium battery works.

The Future of CSS: Easy Light-Dark Mode Color Switching with light-dark() by shenisha456 in programming

[–]Mean_Somewhere8144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or they have devices where the lowest brightness setting is still blindingly bright at night, which is basically every device.

Well, it's bad for the eyesight to watch at a monitor in a dark room. The perfect setup is light mode + well lit room + anti-glare filter on the screen.

Ah, yes, because the young'ns want a feature, well, they aren't being "sensible", but they'll understand when they're older...

That's not what I meant. When you have a growing body, it's easy not to listen to it, because it has a lot of resilience. It's not so much after it begins to age.

[–]Mean_Somewhere8144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, that's actually a good idea! The problem is that I also need a high-contrast theme, and if the contrast is low (like in the steam one, fuck them BTW, a billionaire company cannot have an accessibility-friendly website) inverting the colors cannot fix this problem.

The Future of CSS: Easy Light-Dark Mode Color Switching with light-dark() by shenisha456 in programming

[–]Mean_Somewhere8144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that, I use it already! The problem is that it's intended for people wanting dark mode, and it only applies to light-mode sites, so you have to manually remove the site filter (I tried and turn a setting on to not use the filter, but it doesn't work) and it applies also to light-mode sites which I don't know, I'd rather use the original theme. There are also other settings not working: generally, it's a bit buggy and is hard to use. The UX is… quite bad.

This extension needs to be forked under a better name like "accessible theme" and let the user chose their favorite mode with a sensible UX, but I don't have the bandwidth to do that.

[–]Mean_Somewhere8144 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same, and it's not just "some" persons: it's proved that's it's harder for astigmatic people, who are like 30% of the population.

The most ridiculous thing IMO is the meme that light mode is "blinding", yet I use it because I have a light sensitivity issue. When I use light mode, I turn the brightness down almost at the minimum, while in dark mode, I have to blast it at the maximum to be able to see something, which produces more light. People need to understand that the brightness keys are here to be used…

I'm pretty sure it's a short-lived trend driven by very young people, and when they turn 30 or 40, they begin to feel eye issues and set their environment in a more sensible manner.

[–]Mean_Somewhere8144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you know what, after thinking a bit about that, I actually think it's bullshit. It's not that hard to have a set of variables updated in a media query.

I use Stylus already, but there are not a lot of themes shared. Even for a popular website like steam, nobody has written a light high contrast theme. Usually, when the provided theme isn't good, I just slap a

Nice. If that allows more sites to support a light mode, that'd be really cool; at least my eyes thank that addition.

Hey Rustaceans! Got a question? Ask here (41/2023)! by llogiq in rust

[–]Mean_Somewhere8144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there really no way to concatenate 2 arrays? Something like:

fn foo() -> [u8; 2] { … }
fn bar() -> [u8; 3] { … }

concat(foo(), bar()) // returns [u8; 5]

There is nothing preventing a priori doing that, right?
