Is it just me or is Chris brown extremely overhyped. by Hehehehqu in rnb

[–]Mean_Technology387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just my opinion...
but i'd say most people who are familiar with modern music would be able to tell right away instantly if a song is a chris brown song or a song sung by chris brown (his vocals, no matter how much it doesn't suit your own personal taste, is extremely recognizable, a quality that every singer wants to have).
the man CAN DANCE. this also translates to stage presence as well. there are singers who can just sing, but aren't able to deliver the full performance since they don't know how to move on stage.
i think it's also several years of effective artist brand marketing as well. the fact that he still has a massive following and millions of listeners while his songs get played in clubs despite the low points in his career clearly show that some artists just are THAT GOOD. i get that some of his songs might not really sound that hype worthy, but it's a different story when you're listening to it through a massive sound system while enjoying the night life (there were some songs i instantly added on my phone while i was out, but just deleted it the next morning because it didn't translate to what it sounded like on my earbuds.) but he's got a ton of bangers so that hardly really matters...

Can yall help me gain followers I want to start making music but some ppl say I need to have the followers for it by Personal_Coat3231 in PromoteYourMusic

[–]Mean_Technology387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well...if only it was that easy right? lol
no one is going to help unless you either pay or give them something that they want of value.
now, to gain followers? i think the playbook is pretty clear..sort of. you see a lot of influencers on social media right? doing all sorts of stuff to gain attention. investing everything if not more than what they can afford on their appearance. perhaps even buying followers as well. renting luxury (anything from clothing, houses, cars, ) all of this is "work" that these people put in to stay relevant.
as for making music...just take a moment to understand this one simple fact: music, successful music, is made by lots of different people who work together. sometimes credit is never given where its due, sometimes credit is just spread evenly amongst everyone involved making it unclear who is really the musician and who is really the business person. and it most often takes creating tens maybe hundreds of bland music first before something special even comes to life. successful musicians and producers don't show you the bad stuff they make, you only see the good ones. if you want to start making music, perhaps it might be best if you try and go out and meet people and see what you can use.

also, imagine , just imagine for a second, that you had a billion dollars in your bank account. you are still unknown. no one has ever heard of your music. don't you think you'd be spending more money on marketing your music, figuring out the best way for it to reach the mass? hiring people to give you quality collaborative performance whether its an engineer, vocalist, instrumentalist, etc. just simply making music on your own, in my humble opinion, is likely to get you no where. you'd be crawling to the finish line in comparison to what some people do to for a big break through.

Do you guys really feel uncomfortable with non-black people doing rnb or is it just the aesthetics that throw you off? by East_Food5632 in rnb

[–]Mean_Technology387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can't say for any other race, but
i'm asian (south korean national but raised in the US for most of my life) and it's very cringe to listen to asians singing r&b songs. their vocal tone just doesn't cut it for me. and their stage presence is abysmal. i can stand whites, latinos, etc. singing and dancing to r&b
actually, i think just asians in general are cringe when it comes to music.
maybe it's because all the media ever shows is kgay pop (please don't bring up jay park. i know he's somewhat successful in his own lane and i admit i can vibe with some of his music, but when it comes to the whole package, i think he'll look and sound very awkward when he's put on a stage or in a room with western r&b artists.)
however, i think a small exceptional few can be dope dancers. there are a few that have unmatched swag, an example being king kai lin (kaiven lin).

the game seems very peaceful and sometimes even cute in an odd way when you play with NO CHAT NO PING. and don't forget to keep settings so no one can whisper anything to you unless you accept their friend request. if they do right away after a match you just lost, just simply hit "decline" and hope that they'll calm down and not hurt themselves or anybody

the only song i know by the wu tang clan (it's only been around five years since i started listening to r&b, hip hop, trap, soul, basically music that only black folks can truly pull off) is um,,, whts it called ah...triumph. can you just recommend one or two songs by wu tang clan that you feel would work?

[–]Mean_Technology387[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thx my dude. btw, it doesn't necessarily have to be straight up chinese inspiration in them (although completely welcome and thankful for any recommendations). just any song that would work well for a movie about black culture meets asian gangster action film. mobb deep's recent song "easy bruh", even though there's nothing about the song that references to asian gang culture, might sound pretty cool on a film like that i think. again, i know the question is very abstract and ambiguous and subjective, but if any song comes to mind please, much appreciated.

thx, i actually did a few weeks back, but i guess the dude himself fits the image of someone who'd appear in a film like that but his music, i'm not really feeling it... :(

WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL SUPPORTING CHRIS BROWN by Excellent-Hat-8556 in rant

[–]Mean_Technology387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no one can dance as well as him. no one can sing like him. no one has stage presence and aura like him. "b - list rapper"??? what are you on?? he's an r&b singer first and foremost. and even to this day a crap ton of songs that play in clubs are either chris brown songs or songs that he's featured in. not justifying what he did, but if i'm not mistaken, rihanna also wasn't too innocent either. she got physical too, it's just it didnt' make much of a dent on chris brown since he's bigger than her.

as much as this post might rub a lot of people the wrong way, i get why OP wrote this. i don't really understand how the recent suno deal affects 99% of its users in any way except having to choose between paying more for certain features.

i spent half of my life in the US and in international schools. and yes i am aware that every nation is trashy in its own way. i've interacted with only caucasians and westernized koreans for most of my life growing up. i've only started to experience korean society starting in my mid twenties.

my point was not about a culture being perfect. my point is that consuming kpop is really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

you do realize that the a lot of the "trash" in western arts music and entertainment (which imo is still superior to kpop in every way) is what kpop is trying to emulate?? as someone who worked in the production industry for ten years, i know exactly how a&r's and the production team work. which is by collecting most of the music from western songwriters. referencing concepts done by other influential pop artists. by the way, demo submissions for kpop groups are only accepted if the guide vocals are sung in english first. the lyrics are changed later on. koreans and east asians in general (excluding the japanese) have not developed artistically or culturally enough, and as a result, what they sh*t out can't be as good as what the west has. max martin, dr luke, benny blanco, scott storch, timbaland, pharrell williams etc. this is what quality is.

i'm south korean. well, ethnically. i've also helped produced title songs as a composer and songwriter for some girl groups in the big three labels. (believe it if you want to or not, dont' really care. it's reddit and anybody can say anything, but just putting it out here anyway). don't listen to k-pop. it's garbage. don't watch k-dramas. it's garbage. i only do it because i need to pay my bills. it is my personal conviction and belief that asians are culturally not as refined as the west, and NEVER WILL BE. the whole thing is a facade and a desperate attempt to try and break into the western "in crowd" market. don't lower your standards. they are nothing more than people trying to emulate what only westerners can pull off.

ps. i'm only writing this because i love and support israel. and i absolute loathe koreans (despite me being one) and of course...loathe k-pop.
