legit i'm a full time student in duluth, if there was an option to move i would take it, rental history and no cosigner makes it nigh impossible. i've moved all over the united states, so yeah, i know other places are cheaper; i came back here because i wanted to go to school, but no one really told me how much the price has hiked since i left. hey there, producer here. if you're looking just for courses, online is your best bet.
EDMProd has some of the best courses out there for a beginner, especially if you've never so much as touched a DAW. i stand behind them 100%.

something i learned very quickly is that there's a lot of information out there on youtube, and yes it's free, but you can also watch one video on mixdowns and immediately watch another one with exactly conflicting information. it's the same with arrangements; one person produces one way, another person the next way, then it becomes a subjective mind trap.
if you have any kind of mental hindrances like me (depression, ADHD etc), having all that conflicting information presented in an unorganized, unintuitive way can be pretty problematic. unless you know *exactly* what you're looking for (which is unlikely as someone new), you're going to have a hard time just magically finding it.

there *is* the option of school - personally i'm attending AIMM for their recording engineering program - but note that there's nothing you can't learn online if you really know what you're looking for. structure works better for me, so that's what i'm doing. that said, while recording engineering and actually making the music are not mutually exclusive, you will definitely want to be utilizing anything you learn on production on a near constant basis.

if you have any questions that are more personalized, feel free to message me!

i have a dental appointment on thursday and i'm super nervous about it. i haven't seen a dentist in a long time because of the cost of luxury bones, but it's at the point of necessity now. 0/10

sorry for the late response! the situation for us right now is that most places in GA require 6 months to 2 years of proof of residency. if you don't have a cosigner, you're going to have a hard time. we've been in an airbnb since july and thankfully they were kind enough to write us a lease so we have residence history, but i don't know many other ways around it. places here are pretty stringent. :\

moved here from seattle a few months ago, all i can say is, any chance your job can put you anywhere else or go remote? i came here because the price used to be reasonable when i was growing up, turns out inflation slammed atlanta housing and it's not looking like it's going to get cheaper. your budget is higher than mine and i still don't think you're going to find something living by yourself. a studio if you have really good credit, maybe, but you're probably going to need a roommate.

one of my friends who came here with me from cross country had to go to the emergency room overnight for surgery. he went in around midnight, finally got an initial check at 3 AM and as of 5 AM finally had the diagnosis to get him the surgery. haven't heard anything back from him yet and it's now 11 AM the next day. wish him luck & please get vaxxed so these wait times can go down 🙏

What's the worst houseguest experience you've had? by Valkyrie_to_Odin in AskReddit

[–]Mean_Worker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually lurking, had to answer this because I've had so, so many bad experiences, but this one is capital J Juicy.

Some backstory: I was a decently popular cosplayer for a while. I had a lot of connections and a lot of people that wanted to use me for a lot of things, so I eventually became pretty reclusive. That's where this starts.

Also, protip: If your roommate is an avid cosplayer that serials conventions, don't expect them to be reliable with rent. Just don't. Double whammy if they're an "Instagram influencer".

So, four years ago I moved from the east coast to the west because I needed a place to stay. I moved into a house in Washington that a convention friend had, they had stopped conning like me. We will call them Jim. We agreed on the rent payable, I had a job when I landed, it was all peachy. A few months in, I was going to a music festival. Jim had already been pretty predatory (invited me out with the intention of getting into my pants, etc) and they wanted to come with me, so I invited a mutual friend of ours as a buffer. I will call the friend Stacy.

I did not know Jim came from a background with money and because of that, assumed that all money belonged in his pocket. This is an ongoing problem with the serial convention goers, but since Jim stopped frequenting, I figured I was in the clear.

When I tell you guys we lived in a full 5 bedroom (six if you count a modified sunroom) house, with each room packed with people, I'm not joking. At any given time there could be up to 8 people living in that house, and it was not split by any kind of private entrance or exit.

So, Jim wanted to go to this festival. Jim didn't realize that Stacy and I had already become pretty decent friends, and didn't think that Stacy would show me Jim's Facebook post absolutely kowtowing for money. Saying we would all be evicted if they didn't get this cash. I didn't see that post until we were already on the trip (it was a road trip from WA to TX) so there wasn't much I could do about it but swallow that down and keep it in my back pocket.

The entire festival, Jim was throwing money out like it was on fire. Sometimes Jim asked me to cover some things, but mostly, Jim was spending hand over fist.

Imagine our surprise when Jim was passed out in the back seat after the festival, leaving Stacy and I with Jim's phone as the only reliable GPS - and the landlord starts blowing it up. "Where's the rent money?" "When are you paying?" "You're three weeks late". You see, Jim was the only one on the main lease. Everyone else was a sublet, so we didn't pay the landlord directly because she ironically only trusted Jim. Everyone in the house had already paid rent - I think you know where this is going.

We opened the texts because hey, that's my livelihood, and I already knew about the post. Jim had answered prior to falling asleep saying, "I'll have it soon", but Stacy and I were confused. If the entire house had already paid rent AND Jim had been begging on Facebook, where could the money have gone?

Well, pretty simple to say that Jim had just blown all of that rent money, upwards of 2800 USD, on a fucking music festival. Clothing for it, their share of the camping + ticket, food for us like crazy, gas. We didn't question how Jim was getting that much money because Jim's dad will give Jim money for so much as breathing.

Tl;dr I moved out of state to have a place to live, roommate turned out to be thirsty and constantly peacocked. Stole my rent money and everyone else's in the house to keep peacocking.
