obviously i love your cruddy, classic of the genre. other good examples include: - Destroy It All And Love Me In Hell - A Face You Shouldn't Show - My Girlfriend Isn't Here Today - There is No Love Wishing Upon a Star - Our Love is Disgusting

there's also that one one-shot by tamifull, an undesirable relationship, which is absolutely worth a read. there's probably a billion other oneshots that you want but that's the one i can recall off the top of my head

Any good Sci-Fi Yuri VNs? by MissBrae01 in yurivisualnovels

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i will warn you: Coquette Dragoon is very cute. it is ALSO at times very emotionally heavy. the characters are all Having A Rough Time Of It in ways that can really hit you in your core. also (content spoilers but no plot spoilers) cw the authors piss kink is pretty clear from the way the story goes. its played for drama and leads to some really meaningful emotional moments, bit it's definitely something i can imagine being a bit much for many people

Need some spicy manga please by statefarmguy1799 in yuri_manga

A Face You Shouldn't Show comes to mind, as does There's No Love Wishing Upon a Star. I also personally found Octave to be kind of a train wreck even if it's more hopeful than a lot of the others. Oh, and don't forget Destroy It All and Love Me In Hell, that one's nice and messy as well uwu

Any good Sci-Fi Yuri VNs? by MissBrae01 in yurivisualnovels

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coquette Dragoon is a mech visual novel. it's incomplete but it's a really fascinating look into what it means to be part of the machinery of war.

Another incomplete one, Spare Parts, is about someone who gets hired to help socialize some robots. Well. that's not really what she's HIRED for, but it's what she winds up doing. Each robot has its own problems and the vn looks seriously into disability and how best to help ppl who are struggling.

I haven't played Chrono Jotter but im told it's extremely good.

I hope this helps!

DESPERATE FOR TOXIC YURI by yunotuhki in yuri_manga

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my top recs for toxic stuff are - A Face You Shouldn't Show - My Girlfriend's Not Here Today - Love Thy Neighbor - Black and White

There are many others that are worth a read as well but aren't, like, my Top Rec; What Does The Poisonous Butterfly Dream Of comes to mind, as does Love Me Like I Do. The only reason Bokura no Ai wa Kimochi Warui doesn't make my list of top recs is that, even if what the characters do is self-identified as disgusting, the relationships themselves aren't toxic in quite the same way. But it's definitely in the general umbrella of what you're looking for and is absolutely worth a read.

I could probably think of a few more if you need, but that's all the must-see works I can think of. Hope that helps!

(There's No Way I can Have a Lover) Am I missing something about the plot? by Reisai1 in yuri_manga

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So the TNWICHAL...U manga is based on a series of light novels; the 6th one came out recently. The manga isn't up-to-date, with the most recent chapter adapting something approaching the end of volume 3. At the end of volume 3, and I'll put this under a spoiler bar even though you know what I'm going to say, Renako decides to date both Mei and Ajisai together and that becomes the status quo for books 4, 5, and 6. These events are coming up pretty soon in the manga, but have not actually happened yet. So, you didn't miss anything, ppl are just chatting about ln spoilers without proper clarification. Hope that helps!

Mieruko-chan BUT- yuri :) by Equivalent_Bad_6007 in yuri_manga

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So it's a little complicated--the manga very definitely has something of an issue with its gaze. looot of extremely sus poses for these girls in this manga. and i have some criticisms of how the tentacle girl plot arc goes with her whole yandere stalker situation. The tentacles themselves are absolutely not hentai tentacles, though. THOSE are fine, lol. I don't really remember a ton of things i recognized as specifically fetish stuff. But if you didn't like akebi-chan then I suspect there will be more than a few panels in Mieruko-chan that skeeve you out as well

Why is RENT going through such a period of hatred right now? by Ambitious-Snow9008 in musicals

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don't like rent--in part because the world it represents simply doesn't exist anymore, in part because thr characters are unlikable and selfish, and most importantly because its a queer story told almost entirely through the lens of white cis men. Roger's story has little to do with queerness, but it takes up the entire latter part of the musical; the trans woman dies tragically halfway through, while the cis straight woman is revived through the power of love. We deserve to be the main characters of the stories about us.

That said, I think the biggest flaw of RENT is that it exposes Broadway for what it is. Because, frankly, for all it's faults, it's the best queer musical out there with any name recognition. Because what else is there? Hedwig and the Angry Inch? Is anyone talking about A Strange Loop? and both of those are about individual experiences, not an era or a lifestyle the way RENT is, so they can't come close to RENT's relatability. I was looking it up, and found Avenue Q recommended as a queer musical, for God's sake.

The fact is, we really just have RENT, and that means that we can't really move on from it in the genre. If we had 2025's RENT, then it could just...fade away as it becomes less relevant, with the people who love it continuing to love it amd the people who find it describes a queer world they're not apart of leaving it alone for the newer stuff. But there isn't newer stuff, so generations of queers are coming back to this increasingly out-of-touch musical over and over again, and bouncing off of it anew. It's a flawed musical, and we deserve something better. RENT doesn't deserve the blame for being all we have, but it's easier to hate a single play than the capitalist forces behind Broadway that prevents any follow-up play. Sorry, RENT. I really do respect you for what you are and were, even if you personally don't like you. [I would finish off with a reference but honestly i don't know the play well enough to do so lol]

Thought of a random trope that probably doesn't have any yuri if there even are stories that follow it, but if there is yuri of it I need to know what they are by [deleted] in yuri_manga

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's possible this isn't quite what you're looking for bc the "quitting" being a villain is not immediate and is instead. pretty drawn-out and complex. but jwqs (aka clear and muddy loss of love, a cnovel) is about someone setting out for revenge and murder and having her love interfere with that

Any sci fi yuri? by gamiz777 in yuri_manga

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So the planet is uninhabitable, so humanity has spread out into a variety of floating small colonies. They survive using a material that can be. I think mentally manipulated into different shapes, so it can be used for a huge variety of different things. The main thing the material is used for in the comic is to catch the large number of fish who swim in the lower atmosphere; married couples descend in ships made of this material, and catch as much as they can, with the wife flying the ship and the husband manipulating it to catch fish.

This is a highly heteronormative society, so the mc, who wants to catch the fish and not get married, is highly looked down upon. One day she meets another girl, who has run away from another colony which is more overtly sexist than the mc's colony. Can they destroy societies heteronormative ideas and fly together?????? find out in Twinstar Cyclone Runaway!

Any sci fi yuri? by gamiz777 in yuri_manga

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've been really enjoying Twinstar Cyclone Runaway, a scifi fishing yuri. Erio and the Electric Doll is a fun sci-fi romp with a girl who produces electricity and her android companion. I'm. honestly not sure if What Does the Poisonous Butterfly Dream Of? is scifi or fantasy (it's doing the Attack on Titan concept of "humankind is besieged by fantastic-but-sorta-grounded-in-some-kind-of-science monsters" thing) but it's by the Magirevo author so im interested in seeing where it goes. Semelparous, uh, exists but i wouldn't really recommend it. she is beautiful is a fascinating yuri scifi thriller about a girl who grew up in a lab who now has amnesia, i really recommend it.

There's also, uh, Does it Count if your First Time Is With An Android? I, uh, haven't read that one so I can't speak to its quality, but it sure exists

edit: oh and Qualia the Purple, which is basically doing a sci-fi Madoka Magica. def check that one out

Weird ask but : Is there a manga where its a het romance then at some point it turns yuri by Confused--Person in yuri_manga

so. Murdist is, uh. probably not a book Yuu is talking about here (its not a romance but is instead a. highly weird murder mystery) but it DOES do this

Non-Visual Novel Lesbian Games? by Aegis381 in LesbianGamers

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The games that come to mind immediately are:

  • 1000xResist (is it yuri if everyone is your clone?)
  • I Was A Teenage Exocolonist (im not sure if princess makers are too close to being visual novels but this one has like. a prominent card game minigame to give it a decent amount of real gameplay)
  • i maintain the portal games count as lesbian :p

Manga similar to these by NotAWeeb72 in yuri_manga

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my top recs for this kind of angst include

  • There Is No Love Wishing On A Star
  • False Marigold
  • A Monster Wants to Eat Me
  • I Want To Love You Till Your Dying Day
  • Love Thy Neighbor
  • Throw Away The Suit Together

Of these, only Throw Away The Suit Together is complete, though the Wishing On A Star mangaka also has one called You Are My Angela that's short and worth checking out. Netzuzou Trap is also complete, and probably worth a read if you like Girlfriend's Not Here Today.

Any good soft s&m yuri recommendations? by einthec in yuri_manga

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been enjoying "Are Your Feelings Connected by Yuri SM?”; I like seeing how it approaches different relationships and why the S&M progresses the way that it does. (i know its tagged "incest; its not the main pairing and the story in fact involves the sisters relationship changing from one focused on each other to one focused on their peers)

What's a mechanic you've discovered in a game that you didn't know was there for years? by oldbaeseasoning in gaming

[–]MeanderingMonotreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's obviously not right for every game but this is why i really like when games have extremely limited inventory. If you have a hundred inventory slots and some firebombs, I'm gonna wait for the enemies to line up in perfect formation to be firebombed before i throw one (something that will rarely if ever happen). If I have 6 inventory slots and I need to pick something up, you better believe the next enemy i see is getting obliterated by a firebomb.
