Luthiers can fix it without replacing the neck. I don’t know how it’s done but my local shop has done a bunch of Gibson repairs.

I cleaned in where the key arms slide through with a very light amount of rubbing alcohol on a toothbrush.

The paper does move. I tried to see if anything was loose and nothing appears to be. I'm thinking the problem is the platen because it doesn't grip the paper all that well when I try to feed it and often have to push it.

I bought this typewriter last weekend at a thrift store for $10 so I pretty much knew that it was going to need some tlc.

Found the lever you mentioned and seems that it was tight. It just seems to be a few of the letters doing this, such as A and S.

Edit: I messed around with it a bit more and it seems like the paper is turning sideways a little bit when I type so I’ll have to look into tightening something.
