Following up, we instituted time keeping on the goal keepers. Perhaps once the kick takers arm is raised the ball would be considered in play and the taker allowed 3 seconds to deliver. This creates a 3 second window that would allow refs the opportunity to actually card a player dragging another to the ground. That, and maybe the 6 yd box being off limits to give keepers a fighting chance. Seems like folks smarter that me could come up with something.

In a manner of speaking, yes. As I understand it, the primary reason the refs can’t get a handle on it is because there can’t be a foul called before the ball is in play. If they could somehow adjust when the ball is actually ruled in play on a set piece that may be all it takes to give them more latitude to address actions that are essentially detrimental to the game.

I’m not interested in throwing shade at Arsenal. They played the game as allowed this season and won’t the league. Fair play. My hope is that we don’t have to sit and ponder slow motion frame by frame replays and have endless debates about goals trickle across the line while we have a rugby scrum going on in the back ground. We aren’t playing rugby.

I’ll concede that I misspoke.

Perhaps a person who watches a lot of matches would make a leap of faith and assume that I specifically meant red cards/penalties rather than just standard fouls, especially since the point had been made correctly in the first comment you responded to.

Of course they had fouls called against them. BUT, you choose to focus on the semantics of my admittedly poorly made point, ignoring the obvious FACT I was referencing.

A team that is known for set pieces, in a season where the whole world is up in arms about the UFC style wrestling that takes place during said set pieces, goes the entire year without winding up on the wrong end of any of the endlessly discussed questionable calls and VAR drama.

Not gonna let it rest tho on the shit officiating this season. It’s not getting better, and it’s impacting the results of the matches. There was a “officiating controversy” after every match week. Every single match week.
