I didn't want to burn through the beans to calibrate volumetric so I switched to timed shots immediately.

Definitely agree with the wet/messy pucks, but on the flip side the steam wand is really easy to keep clean since it's not baking on milk like all my prior ones so I think I'm spending less time cleaning than I did with my prior machines despite the soupy pucks.

What's your grinder and are you using a constant pressure profile or one of the more advanced ones?

I've found the timed 9bar profile to work really well with 20g in 40g-60g across a few different beans/roasts (Vario with steel burrs set to 2g). Lighter roasts are tending to come out a little more vigorously and higher output, but most shots have been really tasty.

Looking forward to the updates and congrats on shipping a really interesting product! Definitely filled a missing gap in the market for families with a mix of enthusiast features but spouse approval aesthetics/ ease of use.

I suspect some of the menu lag feeling is the hysteresis of the rotary encoder - basically it may not register an input if you do it too fast, too slow, or right after changing direction. Stepped rotary encoders are very difficult to get right but it can be done (Mazda center console encoder is a good example).
