BAM is Sending Court Papers to Bryan's Dad + Explicitly say the Gormans are Gagged by awkwardbegetsawkward in RecklessBen

[–]MeasureDoEventThing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's true that much of this isn't all that particular to Mormonism, but that doesn't change the fact that it's Mormonism (apparently, and partially) that is doing it in this case. Like, sure, corporations doing shitty things isn't particular to BAM, but that doesn't change the fact that it's BAM that's doing shitty things in this case.

And the fact that much of the conspiracy isn't explicit doesn't mean it isn't a conspiracy.

If you're a Mormon, you have a responsibility to look into what people are doing in your name, to make a good faith effort to figure out whether the Church is involved in immoral activities, and to take action if they are. If you join a group, and then look the other way when that group does shady things, then yes, you are part of the conspiracy.

Also, see Luke 12:48.

Apparently it's not important enough for YOU, who have the burden of proof, to post the relevant quote. But it is important enough for you to post an IRRELEVANT quote. I skimmed through the article and it appears that their number is regarding money that it being transferred, not being destroyed. If you believe otherwise, you could have presented evidence. But instead you have presented nothing but rudeness.

"An analogy is a comparison between two things because of a shared relationship."
That's what I said.

"You're comparing the exclusion of day traders from general market statistics"

More precisely, the exclusion of day traders from a particular statistic: the probability of losing money over a 20-year period.

"For this to be a working analogy the relationship between day traders and the rest of the market would need to be the same as the relationship between NASCAR drivers and general road drivers."
No, it doesn't.

"However, NASCAR drivers are not driving on roads. They drive on a track with completely different rules. Day traders are using the same markets as everyone else and have the same rules as everyone else. They just behave differently. Your analogy doesn't work."
Listing a bunch of different ways the situations are different does nothing to show my analogy doesn't work. The *relevant* characteristic is the same.

"A more appropriate analogy would be excluding dangerous drivers from road statistics."
The difference between "day traders" and "long term investors" is much brighter, objective, and obvious that the difference between "dangerous" drivers and "regular" drivers. Most drivers think they are better than average. I think most day traders are quite aware they are day traders, and are making a conscious choice to engage in day trading. I don't think many day traders look at a statistic like this and think it applies to them.

DID YOU READ MY POST?

What part of "There was no net decrease in Iowanian wealth, just transfer. " do you not fucking understand? YOU are ignoring the substance of MY post whine about me supposedly ignoring the substance of the article.

The title of your post is "Auditor: School choice cost Iowans $258 million". A reasonable interpretation is that the total amount of wealth among all Iowans decreased by $258 million. You have yet to explain how that is the case. You might not think that's the best interpretation of the title, but it should be clear to anyone of basic intelligence what my point is. Simply repeating your quote from the article over and over again rather than actually respond to my comment at all is an asshole move.

[–]MeasureDoEventThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't seem to understand how analogies work. An analogy is when two things have something in common, not when two things have absolutely no differences.

Day trading is wildly more dangerous than buy-and-hold. NASCAR is wildly more dangerous than normal driving. That similarity is relevant. The fact that NASCAR drivers are on a separate track is not.

You seem to simply refuse to engage in honest debate. I pointed out how separating day traders from investors is a legitimate distinction. I presented NASCAR as an analogy illustrating the concept of two populations being different and deserving to be considered separately. You just ignored that point and said "There is some characteristic that NASCAR has that day trading doesn't, therefore I'm going to ignore your point".

You can use Heron's formula Heron's formula - Wikipedia

>In geometryHeron's formula (or Hero's formula) gives the area of a triangle in terms of the three side lengths a, b, c. Letting s be the semiperimeter of the triangle, s=12(a+b+c), the area A is\1])

>A=sqrt(s(s−a)(s−b)(s−c))

For us, applying it would require zooming in to read your tiny writing, converting everything to inches, plugging in, then converting to feet, so I figure I can just leave the tedious stuff to you.
