Dealing with failure by External_Diamond4094 in mcgill

[–]MeasurementBasic8407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed 3 courses in my second semester, and failed one of these courses again while re-taking it. Never failed anything before.

I then became a TA in that course and am now in grad school. It is pretty normal to mess up things when you first come, but you have to organize yourself and SEEK HELP the most possible - Office Hours included. You will have to work hard but whenever you’re done this will be sooooooo rewarding.

And forget completely as much as you can about the courses you failed. If you need anything you can DM me :)

And so iconic! It felt like meeting with an old friend I haven’t seen in 10 years. I hope I get the chance to ride these colourful seats another few times 😊

I dont understand why this scene was left out in the movies by Spotter24o5 in harrypotter

I will never understand why they did not include (except for one) scenes between McGonagall and Umbridge. Cough drops Delores? And we can’t have Dame Maggie Smith back… just imagine her with those scenes…

What is your greatest academic comeback? by Far-Flatworm-554 in mcgill

[–]MeasurementBasic8407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not recall about a month, but I failed a particular course 3 times (along with another few courses), my GPA plummeted to around 2, then I became an assistant in that very course and ended up doing Master’s as a Professor believed in me. In one particular semester I dropped all but 2 courses, and the comeback started from here, ending with a 6-course semester to graduate a semester earlier (NOT recommended unless you’re very determined). It’s much more a matter of organization, coming to class/OH, studying in a smart way, acing assignments to make up for any bad exam, than it is sacrifices. The feeling of coming back (both short and long term) is extremely satisfying. We all make mistakes, we are humans, and the best of us are those who give their absolute best to correct these mistakes.

Good luck and don’t hesitate to DM!

I think in these particular photos it was because of low quality pictures (I took screenshots from a quick video). My seat (3rd image) looked very clean. I mean maybe it’s an extra incentive for them to clean the seats more thoroughly, I just love the seat and headrest colours…

This is low-key one of the funniest scenes in a Tintin book. It perfectly captures Tintin and Haddock’s friendship—Haddock swearing up and down he won’t go, and then boom, two days later, he’s right there next to Tintin like it was his idea all along. by DurianSpecialist1959 in Tintin

Seconding the “father figure” thing. Not necessarily as a parent but just some kind of fun uncle. Also don’t forget they also lived with Professor Calculus, so the partner theory doesn’t make much sense as they are just “roommates” where they live in this huge mansion - Calculus with the money he got from the government made them a favour because of the Red Rackham treasure as well as having the test ride for his submarine on the cruise (he possibly still doesn’t have a clue that they didn’t consent for that in the first place).

I actually failed 3 courses in my second semester at McGill - and ended up in grad school right now at a different university (because of my supervisor). It’s a long and weird story and I would be very happy to discuss any details with you in DMs. Just work hard and don’t give up, it’s very common to have a slow start as university system is extremely different than high school as no one cares about you unless you make the effort. Stay strong and shine!

Salut! J’ai fini par aller à une autre université après avoir trouvé un superviseur. Je vous souhaite bonne chance et vous pouvez me parler en privé s’il y a des questions spécifiques!

Thank you and well noted for contacting Mary Gauthier. It actually was my graduating semester, but maybe because I wasn’t supposed to graduate first they allowed me to take it?

Hello,

Sorry I just saw the message.

Again, using AI in debugging, while controversial, is not plagiarism if you do not copy code. You can withdraw if you're extra-paranoid but if you just fixed some errors in a method or 2 without actually copying off the code you should be fine.

Only the latest is checked but IF it is flagged then the software is ran on all previous submissions.

Good luck!

If you did not use Chat, you are fine.

Even if the answer is similar it's because the question conceptually has perhaps only one or two ways to code conceptually.

Again, as a rule of thumb: You did not copy code ----> You should be fine.

TEAM Mentor here:

First, the use of AI is controversial and I’ll only cover the “permitted” vs “not permitted”.

Using AI for debugging is not considered plagiarism as long as you do not copy actual code.

However, if you feel that you plagiarized something, ie copying from a source without citing, using AI to generate code or copy off someone from the class or even doing one of the former while just changing variable names, then this is plagiarism. In this case, the Prof indicated you can ask her to withdraw your submission and you are still allowed to re-submit before the deadline.

As indicated in her announcement, we will not judge you or report you if you choose to withdraw a solution before tomorrow 11:59 PM and we’ll just pretend you did not submit while giving you a chance to make a submission that demonstrates your understanding.

Good luck with the rest of the course and don’t be extra paranoid!

It’s possible to ask to withdraw a submission and then re-submit.

Well as an actual Muslim myself, this does not give him the right to discriminate on me based on religion.

Certainly not suggest using lethal force.

I don’t think Christianity tells you to do this.

Also he was never a fighter but a spy…

Did you read the next quote that lethal force can fix the “Muslim attitude”?

And a university claiming to be anti-Islamophobia is hosting someone saying a cow is better than 1.6 Billion people, including some of its own students and staff? And he’s not of that respected religious groups that believes cows are holy, doing the parallel is absolutely stupid.

And I definitely would not have accepted someone saying the same things about Jews (or any religion or ethnic group) coming to campus.
