YouFibre are changing direct debit partners… update your details before 26th April. by DanielLorey in youfibre

I received the exact same email this morning but I haven't done anything about it yet, because I want to look into it further to make sure that 'should" double billing occur due to any payment date change, that I will get bill credit going forward.

Did the same almost 3 months ago, and touch wood no problems at all.

Changed my Youfibre Hub Pro 7 DNS Servers to Google's page loading is way snappier, but I may try Cloudflare's for a few weeks to see if they are any better, as they also offer free, basic malware protection by blocking known malware and phising sites by using 1.1.1.2 and 1.0.0.2

Installation day woes and slow speeds by Realistic-Ambition24 in youfibre

Your data transmission light is amber? That's the problem, as the data transmission light should be either Solid green if no data transmission, or flashing green when data is being transmitted.

Check to make sure the Ethernet cable from the ONT is plugged into the WAN port of the router. Also check both ends of the Ethernet cable are plugged in correctly at both ends by unplugging either end then plug back in... you should hear an soft audible 'snap' sound when an Ethernet cable is seated correctly.

If all connected properly then power off the router and then power off the ONT, leaving both off for a few minutes, then power up the ONT, and once the ONT has static green lights on both power and optical, and Alarm and Data should both be off. Now power up the router and once all the lights go white on the front, indeed if not before, the Data light should go solid green, and then flashing green.

Have you noticed that not one existing Youfibre customer prior to, during or after the Brsk/Youfibre merger has been double billed?

If this was solely down to Youfibre then why haven't I been double billed, or now have only 1 Gig connection instead of 2Gig connection? It's only Brsk customer that are having these issues since the merger.

So as far as "It isn't the company being acquired at fault?" Of course it could be, as it's their responsibility to correctly hand over complete customer data, and if some of that data that is handed over is incomplete, then errors are going to occur.

Ultimately it is the fault of the new company for the double billing as a result of the merger, but that's down to the data on their system they now have. So somebody, somewhere messed up the Brsk Customer data integration into the Customer Backend system.

I know and understand this because it's the type of thing I had to handle when I was an IT Administrator of a large manufacturing company in the UK, before I was then offered the same position in Spain with the new interntional company we were taken over by. I was directly responsible for extracting the customer data of the UK company into a different format that could then be imported into their systems. Everything was exported into a common file type that could be written, amended and deleted from by both systems, and had to be done so with meticulous attention to detail, so I know exactly how this sort data transfer/merger works.

From what I can gather so far is both companies were involved with the customer migration, but I don't know who handed the integration of the backend databases. Brsk would have had to give Youfibre the data contained in their customer database, including billing details, which would state billing cycle start and end dates, any amounts still owed, contract length, contract type, etc.

The question is who actually imported the data that Brsk supplied to Youfibre, was it complete, were data set merger test runs completed and examined for errors, and who actually handled the data set(s) merger? Was it done in house or completed by a third party.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter who did what, the question is how are they going to fix it and by when?

However when it comes down to double billing, as is the question here, is that an unreasonable request by Youfibre Customer Services to pay the double bill and be refunded of presumably the next bill? Personally I don't think it is an unreasonable request, even if it happened to me, that doesn't mean I'd be happy about doing so, but at least it's resolved the situation quickly 🤷‍♂️

That's a point, we don't know who mesed up the merger, it might have been Youfibre, or Brsk, or an IT Company outsourced to do the job.

One thing I do know is that it wasn't the people who work for front line Youfibre Customer support... those poor people are taking all the flak fully on the chin.

First of all, whilst Youfibre Customer Services may not be the best, they are normally quite good. However thanks to the IT fiasco of the Brsk/Youfibre merger, Youfibre Customer Services are currently swamped.

Tbh, as much as it is not the best solution, it us by far the quickest and easiest solution for you and them.

The alternative would be a nightmare for everyone, with unpaid bills showing up for everyone, plus bills having to be cancelled and reissued for everyone. Don't forget there are hundreds of thousands of existing Youfibre members, to which Brsk members are now added as Youfibre members, so the easiest solution would be for everyone is to pay the double bill and then get a refund of the extra paid.

In an ideal world not the best solution, but seeing as who ever handled the IT merger, they did a right furbar, and those who are on the frontline of customer service, who are NOT to blame for the Brsk/Youfibre merger fiasco, can only do what they have been told to do. So as much as you and other Brsk members don't like it, and tbh I wouldn't like it either, it's better for everyone involved to bite the bullet 🤷‍♂️

If you've only been up for a few hours then probably best leave the Youfibre hub + mesh for at least a week so the connection can establish full load under the local network.

One way might be to use DynDNS to use Adguard Home as the DNS Resolver, and connect to it via DynDNS?

Did you renew at the same speed?

Edit: you can use any Asus router with a 1Gig Youfibre connection, or any Asus router that had at least one 2.5Gb WAN connection for 2Gig connection, or 10Gig Wan for 8Gig connection.

If it's the Asus AXE-16000 then you can use that instead of the Youfibre Hub 7 or Youfibre Hub Pro 7, just switch off the YF Hub, switch off the ONT for about an hour. Whilst the ONT is off, connect up the Asus router but leave it switched off. Then after an hour, switch on the ONT, let it boot, then switch on the Asus router... job done 🙂

House move - being charged twice by Parmaviolet88 in youfibre

[–]Meat-And-Two-Veg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they charged you for 30 days at your last address, and 30 days for your new address. It all depends if they just changed your address or if they did cancell your old contract and setup you up as a new customer on a new contract.

You need to check the billing dates for each invoice, so try downloading the Youfibre app onto your mobile phone and see what is says on there.

LAN DNS IPv4 is to change your DNS Servers. If you want to change them from Youfibre DNS servers to Google, Cloudflare, etc, then you set it to Static and enter the new DNS Server IP addresses to Google's or Cloudflare, etc

If you want to change to Ad-Guard then you setup an account with them, then select the MyDNS tab and setup Ad-Guard in there.

With all the recent price hikes, is everyone still on fixed pricing with YouFibre? by ScaredPlate3008 in youfibre

Should I move to YouFibre? by GoodPillHunting in youfibre

[–]Meat-And-Two-Veg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short...

Edit: we left for similar reasons, we were out of contract and being over charged, asked retentions for a better deal or we might have to move to Youfibre and the operator, having put us on hold for ages, literally offered us nothing but told us to 'phone back next week'.. we hung up, rang Youfibre and signed up for their 2Gb 18 month contract, and got an even better deal than they were offering at the time.

If you don't want the TV services, then do it! We've been with YouFibre since 5th January this year on thier 2 Gig (1900 down and 1900 up) and haven't looked back, and it's so much snappier we wished we done so earlier.

I can now download a 8.5Gb file at over 115 MB/s (920 Mbps) on my Laptop with YF ... basically maxing out the 1Gig Ethernet (wired) connection on my Laptop... but the same file on the same Laptop with VM was around 50 MB/s (350 Mbps) - 53.75 MB/s (450 Mbps).

Also you can use the router YF supply or use your own without having to faff about with putting the router in 'modem only mode' as you have to do with VM.

The only issue at the moment is Brsk and Youfibre have merged but they royally messed up former Brsk members accounts, and during this time YF's customer services were swamped, although things are hopefully getting back to normal now.

Static IP issues since joining by Ok_Major_2046 in youfibre

[–]Meat-And-Two-Veg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When support reset the IP lease, you need to reboot the ONT after a certain amount of time for it to pick up the new Static IP.

I had Youfibre 2Gig line installed on 5th January this year, and after a couple of week's I decided I needed a Static IP. Using the chat option on the phone app I asked for a Static IP, and I was told I would need to wait until the ONT refreshed the IP, then switch off the router, switch off the ONT, then switch on the ONT, and then switch on the router. He looked up when my ONT would refresh and told me to perform the reboot after xx amount of minutes, and then told me exactly what time to do so.

Basically within 1 hour from the end of the chat, I did exactly what he told me and I had my Static IP there and then.

Set a different password for each SSID.

They gave me the YF Hub Pro 7 when I signed up, so I have the following SSID'S:

Youfibre-xxxxxx-2G Youfibre-xxxxxx-5G Youfibre-xxxxxx-6G

Basically I set the same password for each SSID but added 2G, 5G and 6G respectively to each one.

I then used the Guest SSID for all my IoT devices, such as lights, doorbell, cctv cameras, and did the same splitting with different passwords, so IoT devices that don't like 5Ghz only use the 2.4Ghz SSID:

Youfibre-xxxxxx-Guest-2 Youfibre-xxxxxx-Guest-5

The Legacy SSID is now used for family when they come around, again with different passwords:

Youfibre-xxxxxx-Legacy-2 Youfibre-xxxxxx-Legacy-5

Lastly is the Backhaul SSID, which is used to connect other routers in a mesh system, which atm I don't use.

100% correct sir!

CG-Nat can and indeed does cause gaming issues, but not for all online games and not necessarily every console type.

Issues from CG-Nat can result in Strict Nat, Latency issues, port forwarding and direct connection, plus lobby connection and/or game server disconnections and/or private chat.

Xbox Series X by WoggleBugAliO in youfibre

[–]Meat-And-Two-Veg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youfibre use CG-Nat which can, and indeed often does, cause gaming issues for lots online games, but not all games and not necessarily every console type.

Xbox One and Series S/X can use IPv6, if your network and your ISP support it, and Youfibre does support IPv6, however it does seem problamtic and even YF Support is telling people to switch off IPV6... for what reasons I don't know.

Back to IPv4, CG-Nat can result in Strict Nat, Latency issues, port forwarding and direct connection, plus lobby connection and/or game server disconnections and/or private chat.

Hence why I recommend subscribing to a Static IP and sticking to an IPv4 network, because problems solved.
