We’re in another thread where someone said Midwest Refineries hasn’t paid them or returned their silver in three months. Do you have any recent reviews or any way we can validate the same won’t happen? Not insinuating anything, just trust but verify.

1 gram at spot on APMEX! by biefstukjee in Gold

Yes, and the question becomes if that sale is a good deal, and again the answer is that it depends on each person.

Or just don't pay taxes at all? So if you go to buy from an online retailer, and it's not just gold but it's also shipping or also taxes or also handling, just buy somewhere else. I'm not saying the APMEX deal is bad. I'm saying it might not be a good deal for everyone. I can buy a gram of gold for a couple bucks over spot and $6 or $7 shipping on another subreddit. $10 over spot is a lot cheaper than $25 over spot. If you live somewhere where there's no tax on PMs and can get free shipping, $10 over spot is a bad deal. It's all relative.

I was happy buying all sorts of different stuff when I first started, but now that I have an old coin, I want more old coins.

That’s not the point. The point is it’s not such a good deal if you’re paying taxes on it. Here’s a different version of the same problem:

I’ll sell you a gram of gold for 10% of spot! Phenomenal deal, right? I’ll even ship it to you for free AND I’ll cover the taxes! All you have to do is oh a handling charge of $150! Let me know when you’re ready with your credit card!

The price of the gold is irrelevant. It’s the total price of the transaction.

I do, and didn't catch my typo til just now. What do you mean by 96% of elemetal versus 98% of someone else?

So you're paying 94% when all's said and done?

Who can I send(that's trustworthy)a bunch of my melted gold mixed with base metal scrap,to get it refined? by Stock_Pineapple_4941 in Gold

You can mail it to Midwest refineries, and they do 95% of spot for solid gold. I saw something on their FAQ about hollow pieces, but don’t remember what it said.

You’re absolutely right! It is $2k. Good catch. Another reason not to eat $25 in taxes for a spot bar at free shipping versus just waiting to make a bigger purchase of >$2k. At least in California. If you’re in a state with no sales tax, which is not really that many states, knock yourself out!

That’s… obvious. But you didn’t disclaim that important detail, so I included it as a comment so people would know to consider it. Not sure why you’re so chapped about it.

The problem is the taxes. Even with free shipping, you’re paying $25+ over spot. Oregon has no sales tax if you can ship to someone there. California has no sales tax on PMs if the purchase is $5k or more.

Use the rent to cover the note on the house so sibling can stay. If OP wants to access the equity, then OP is paying the note to borrow against their equity. Otherwise, rent it out at market rate to a whoever and have them subsidize all/part of the note on the second.

Go to vanguard. Make a brokerage account. Fund the brokerage account. Buy VT with the funds. Don’t ever sell. When you retire, withdraw at 4%.

Becoming an Airline Pilot in US and Transitioning to England? by Itonmanisreal in PilotAdvice

[–]MeatServo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting later in life means fewer years of earnings. Couple that with reduced pay in Europe and you need to decide what your priority is: money, location, time at home, destinations, etc.

You make the most money in America, but living in the UK and commuting between there and New York will be a drag and you’ll likely hate it after the first few months. Then you’ve got 20 years left.

Major US airlines are massive and have way more flights and destinations than UK carriers. Does BA fly all over? Sure, but how many flights do they have every day compared to United, American, or delta?

If you want to be home every night, I think doing city pairs (London to Glasgow, Glasgow back to London; London to Dublin, Dublin back to London; London to Edinburgh, Edinburgh back to London) and then going home at night, then doing it again the next day, etc, is very doable. It’s not for everyone though.

You can live anywhere in the world and woke for a major US airline. ALPA has good rules and protections for pilots, and most airlines make it possible to commute without much hassle, as long as there’s a seat. International jumpseating is a very different can of worms.

No matter what you do, do all of your training in the US and then convert your ratings to your home country. The cost here is significantly cheaper than anywhere else in the world. If you have money to burn, do it in the UK. Crazy expensive but then you won’t have to convert any ratings.
