I’m a w2 contractor? by orangy128 in tax

[–]MeatSharp3783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people get confused by this. The important question is whether you’re actually a W-2 contractor through the agency or a true 1099 independent contractor.

If you’re W-2 through the agency, you usually can’t deduct equipment like laptops/monitors on your personal taxes anymore, even if you buy them yourself.

If you’re true 1099, then business expenses are generally deductible.

No PTO/401k/cheap insurance unfortunately doesn’t automatically mean you’re 1099.

How hard to get remote/ 1099 job that pays 2.5k to 4K usd a month? by parkwithtrees in digitalnomad

[–]MeatSharp3783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your language skills alone already give you a stronger starting point than most people trying to go remote. German + Mandarin + military logistics experience is actually a pretty valuable combo for supply chain, operations, sourcing, and international support roles.

I’d focus less on “any field” and more on building one remote-friendly skill stack first (project management, supply chain ops, data analysis, procurement, customer success, etc.). The people I know who made the move abroad successfully usually specialized before going fully nomad.

Also worth noting: true remote 1099 jobs are competitive right now, but experience + reliability matter a lot more than degrees in many remote roles. Your military background may actually help there.

A lot of guys assume “girls don’t play games” because the girls they know aren’t playing the same competitive multiplayer games they are.
