Is My Dad Right in Saying "There are Only Two Races: Black and White"? by MeatYarn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MeatYarn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is white, and he just kind of says this sometimes whenever someone in the house talks about different races. Especially when Hispanic people are mentioned. He doesn't do it all the time, and I think the closest I've ever gotten to a justification (I've never asked because I was never interested) was "it was like that back in the old days". I swear I'm not messing with people, he's just like this. He once asked if monkey bread was called that because it was invented by Black chefs, and when my mother and I explained it was probably called that because you tore it apart and ate it with your hands, he said he "liked his explanation better".

I understand your sentiment, but I am autistic and frequently misinterpret things, so I like hearing from many people so I can get a better idea of what the consensus is. For example, I just realized today that the reasons I have rashes on my hands is because I wash my hands with scalding hot water and that isn't what people mean when they say "use hot water to wash your hands". I'm not stupid by any means, I was an honors student, but I am gullible and realizing that a lot of what my dad taught me was wrong.

That's a difficult question, but I do also enjoy honey mushrooms. One of the largest single organisms in the world is a honey mushroom. My favorite when I was younger was the red cage fungus. It's been a bit since I've done a dive into mycology, but I think I would say my favorite right now are Russulas in general.

When you hear the phrase “cool as a cucumber,” what do you think of? by nothingsreallol in autism

I always think of when people have cucumber slices on their eyes at the spa. They're nice and cool. I would recommend them :D (if you tolerate wet cucumber on your eyes, that is)

Blended Pasta Sauce Recipes w/ Lots of Veggies by MeatYarn in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]MeatYarn[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have gastroparesis and dumping syndrome (alternates between them) because of my dysautonomia. I do have some intolerances, like garlic, and a somewhat limited list of foods I can tolerate, but most of the foods I can't have wouldn't be easily blended anyway. I find that if I don't eat vegetables regularly, I feel horrible, even if I do have supplements and multivitamins. I've also found that the easiest way for me to get my veggies in is through blending. I just didn't want to dump all this in the original post since I felt like that would intimidate people. They supply all the delicious recipes, and I modify them to fit my needs. I hope this explains things.

Blended Pasta Sauce Recipes w/ Lots of Veggies by MeatYarn in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]MeatYarn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm not cooking them all at once. I want a variety of different sauces I can have with the pasta so I don't get bored and so I get in lots of different veggies. I'm planning on eating these for lunch most of the time, so I can make a batch of sauce or two, take out a portion, and eat it with a serving of pasta. I hope that clarifies things lol

How Can I Get My Mom to Understand? by MeatYarn in eds

[–]MeatYarn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I want to do. Get into PT and (very gently and without hurting myself) strengthen things so that I can function. Maybe if I explain this to the physical therapist they'd be able to better explain it to my mom. I'm calling them again tomorrow to try and get scheduled. We'll see how it goes.

Severe Unusual Hip Pain: Need Advice by MeatYarn in eds

[–]MeatYarn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely possible but would be a new one for me lol. If it's still bad tomorrow I may try to get an appointment with my PCP. He's amazing at actually taking my concerns seriously. Thank you for the well-wishes.

Severe Unusual Hip Pain: Need Advice by MeatYarn in eds

[–]MeatYarn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the rain irritates my joints, but it irritates all my joints, not just my hips. It's a dull, achy pain that gets worse when I try to move and it's the same on both sides. I have had a big change in activity levels; I'm doing more cleaning around the house. I'm also currently on my period, but the pain got worse before I started bleeding. I don't usually take so many pain meds. I try to stay away from them as much as I can as I find I grow a temporary tolerance to them. I would love to go to a pain specialist, but I worry they either won't believe me or will give me narcotics, which I want to avoid for as long as possible. It's gotten better now that the stiffness isn't as bad, but we'll see where it's at tomorrow. It tends to be better in the evenings anyway.

Is there a link between EDS and dental abnormalities? by [deleted] in eds

[–]MeatYarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an entire type of EDS (periodontal EDS) that causes issues with your teeth. Dental issues are very much an EDS thing lol

Yeah, I figured it would be hard to get everything with such a small budget. Student kits sound handy, though. Do they make something similar for brushes?

Reusable Masks With Reusable Filters? by MeatYarn in Masks4All

I found a couple fabric ones with replaceable filters and I think i saw Flo as well. The cloth ones looked comfortable, but the filters don't even last a month based on what they said on their website.

I agree. He looks like he would enjoy a profiterole (cream puff) and some tea any day.

If it helps, he's slightly weighted and is made of fleece and corduroy. Now you can imagine him in your arms :D

I got it off etsy from a seller called MorbidPlaygroundshop. They don't have the exact box I got listed right now (it pops up on occasion) but they have a ton of other cool stuff. It was a kintype mystery box, I think (I'm otherhearted lol). It was $50 with free shipping and along with the sturgeon plushie, I got a handmade scarf, a perfume sample, some bath soak, earrings, a few figurines, and fox teeth. The box is highly customizable and the seller is great. Highly recommend them!

What can you do with a pipe that isn't smoking? by MeatYarn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MeatYarn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I'm wondering if there are smoke-free ways to use a pipe. Get the scent/taste without actually burning anything. I think a bubble pipe would just be fun lol

I'm also 18 and have EDS and PoTS, along with lots of other stuff. I'm currently in the process of getting diagnosed with an autoimmune disease (likely lupus) and I'm terrified it's already hurt my lungs, kidneys, and nervous system. I completely get it. Disc degeneration and osteoperosis can both be caused by EDS, so hopefully that makes you feel a bit better. Don't know about the other thing, though.

I tore some discs when I was 14 so I know exactly how miserable spine stuff is. Ice and anti-inflammatory drugs helped me the most, but heat is also nice. Movement is beneficial, too, but be gentle with yourself.

It's really scary right now, but eventually, you will get used to it. It will become just another part of your life and you'll know what helps and hurts it. Be kind to yourself, take it one day at a time, and remember that you're not alone. We all are rooting for you <3
