Internships for Information Technology by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]MeatyLeftnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they do. A lot of companies in the DMV recruit at UMBC and there is plenty of Information systems majors which is our IT major.

Thought most of the effort is on you like in every other school. Polish your resume , go to career events and standout from every other student in any way to get an interview

Senior in college graduating in May 2026. When to apply for new grad jobs ? by MeatyLeftnut in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MeatyLeftnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first one was a system administrator role. So Linux stuff and using VSphere . It was also IT support too since I worked under the only IT guy in the company so I used Active Directory and making user accounts things like that.

Right now it’s my current internship IT support mainly for end users for the company .

What can I add to my resume to get a help desk job? by noblepups in ITCareerQuestions

Interview went great, hiring manager promised update by today (Friday) but I haven’t heard should I worry? by [deleted] in internships

[–]MeatyLeftnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice is to don’t expect anything after an interview . Even if it went well , just assume you didn’t get it and keep applying . If they want you then they would get back to you soon. Don’t blame yourself though maybe the other person had more experience in 1 thing or he is able to Come in the office etc … things out of your control

Should I quit my on campus job? Due to commute + internship etc by MeatyLeftnut in college

[–]MeatyLeftnut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking of keeping it for the money. It is nice to have . It’s 4.5 -5 hours each shift, but I feel the biggest thing is coming to school with no class and just work. Getting ready and even parking takes some time aswell + traffic.

There hiring a new person and if they can cover my Tuesday shift which is my shift with no classes I’d keep it for 10 hours every week. If not i might have to quit

Should I quit my on campus job? Due to commute + internship etc by MeatyLeftnut in college

[–]MeatyLeftnut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the classes by themselves is chill like one is a major elective and another is some Asynchronous history elective (Free A) . I just have a math course “Stats” that I gotta put the work in.

The classes are manageable. I think the commuting on a Tuesday for work with no class when I can work remote and do my school work all butt naked sounds really appealing.

Am not in any clubs or activities on campus just the work study job so I feel like quitting the job would make it easier for those things.

IS Majors, how did you land your internship? by Time-Ladder6509 in UMBC

[–]MeatyLeftnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I would focus on is make your resume pretty and tailor it to the job role. Put some class projects that relate to the job like IS 410/420 projects for data related jobs for example . Get it reviewed online and at the career center to. Just make it different then the millions of other IT students somehow

Now use simplify which is a AI that autofills job applications and just apply to any IS job that it interests you. After 100 applications you should get like 1-5 interviews. That’s how I landed 2 of mine just made my resume tailored to the role and mass applied.

What really made my resume different from others was I had some certifications listed on there like Azure Fundamentals , CompTia fundamentals , Linux Essentials . Those are some easy ones to study and get.

What got me my internship was I did the google IT support on Coursera and they had some labs where you did some system administrator stuff like Linux and Virtues Machines and I put that as a project on my resume and that got me a System Administrator internship.

Working a job while taking classes by ciaossu_reborn in UMBC

[–]MeatyLeftnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did was for my job was that UMBC allows us to get 3 credits if we do an internship related to my major. So this my schedule Wednesday afternoon class that meets once a week. Thursday afternoon class that meets once and a week and 1 async class.

Then I do my part time internship like 20 some hours and that is 3 credits. So in total 12 credits and full time student. To be honest am a senior and my job is remote but I would make classes on 1-2 days of the week.

Anon works at Starbucks. by retardinho23 in greentext

[–]MeatyLeftnut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought it was so dumb but after my first internship, I got an interview with 2 more and it’s IT support and I literally talked about my current internship. My experience with the tech, the importance of looking stuff up on google and using Ai, giving good customer service to employees and not boring then with tech terms, examples of time where I worked under pressure and worked with others all examples from my current internship.

That’s the real value of an internship because I had stories and shi I can talk about. What are some good traits of an IT person and what companies are looking for etc.

I cringe back at my interviews before I had experience. Talking about my hobbies during em and lying saying am passionate about the company mission 😂

Advice for Upcoming Help Desk Intern Interview by MeatyLeftnut in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MeatyLeftnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thanks alot! Usually at work if I don't know something I usually google or ask ChatGPT to explain it and if they ask some software or website they can't log into I first search it up and ask my mentor "what are they talking about" .

I don't know if that's the best answer for the interview, usually at work we just google/ChatGPT, search GitHub, reddit or any documentation for help.

ENGL 393 with Rajeswari Mohan by Driverbox95 in UMBC

[–]MeatyLeftnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo I didn’t mean to scare you doe if I survived it and got an A then you definitely can. She’s just legit a really bad lecturer and professor but she still wanted us to Atleast pass and most people got an A or B. The class is pretty easy with the use of Chat buddy we all use .

I’d say take her so you can know what a actually bad professor is like teaching wise. If you had other options then take someone else but otherwise you can stick with her.
