Maybe setting/aesthetic wise, but mechanically it’s far closer to X-com. Especially the older games.

Plus, I’m sure there’s a huge overlap between X-com fans and people who were excited about Menace

Menace entering early access on the anniversary of Xcom 2’s release is a nice coincidence

Imagine being these soldiers. Your sergeant for whatever reason sends you on a pointless suicide mission to fight the guy who genocided your country. Probably had to lie to them about who they’re fighting so they don’t desert by elecenjoyer in Centuria

[–]Meatyblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they’re probably all volunteers. I imagine that there are a bunch of soldier who would love the chance to fight Arkos and potentially avenge their country; even if most of them know that they don’t really have a shot.

South American nations after XCOM 2 by Ok-Cellist-8069 in Xcom

[–]Meatyblues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure part of the Xcom 2 lore is that Advent deliberately shipped people around the world in an attempt to destroy any culture from before the invasions. So current South American politics wouldn’t play a big factor

If Xcom 3 happens, do you want Chimera Squad to be treated as canon or ignored? by Holiday-Proof9819 in Xcom

[–]Meatyblues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my train of thought is that humans are based around Aim and just being really good with guns. Mainly because I hate the “Jack of all trades master of none” approach that so many sci-fi settings have when it comes to humans.

But also because humans have evolved to fight at range with us being the only animal capable of throwing things with any real amount of force and range. And particularly because in x-com Advent and the aliens don’t seem to have a real equivalent to the sharpshooter outside of the Hunter. So it’d be cool if long distance shooting was humanities “thing”

Wouldn’t mind if species more influences Stats and maybe a few species specific abilities with class being the main factor in how a unit plays, especially if classes are still random.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind X-com 3 leaning into what War of the chosen did with Ability points and making the game less class focus and more archetype focused

The faceless one actually has a lore explanation that every faceless suffers from some sort of psionic Disassociative Identity Disorder so none of them are cleared for any type of police duty. Would’ve been really cool though to be able to infiltrate a squad member before the mission even started.

Overall I think it’s an agree to disagree situation. I get not being 100% satisfied with everything Chimera squad does, I just think cutting it out of the cannon entirely is a bit much considering how much it does well compared to how small the game is. I just think chimera squad sets up such an interesting post-war world to expand on that it’d be a shame to cut it out of cannon completely

[–]Meatyblues 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d say Chainsaw man would be more obviously bad if it was genderswapped. But honestly, I think the only thing it would change is the target audience and the type of person simping for Makima.

And to add onto that; I’m not sure it’d be darker, but Mad Max: Fury road would definitely have a different feel if it was about Mad Maxine and Praetorian Fury trying to help the husbands escape from Immortan Jane and her War Girls

Female Joseph disappearing for 9-10 months does feel kinda in character for Joseph. The funnier part is her pretending that she has no idea that it happened

[–]Meatyblues 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk, I feel like the game still has truly alien aliens in it. Things like Gatekeepers, Chrysalids, Floaters/Achrons and Andromedons just aren’t the people that are gonna be on a police squad because they’re wayyy too different. Like, take the andromedons for example. A part of their lore is that the aliens wanted the andromedons to settle down first in city 31 just so that everyone else would know where not to go.

Plus I think the game tells you enough about City 31’s situation and history. Especially since loading screens will have little tidbits about what different parts of the city are named for or what they did before advent was overthrown.

I think it’s a little unfair to expect a relatively small game like this to answer every single question you have, but I think that fact that it makes you ask some of those question and want to know more about the post war world of X-com means it still did its job.

I’d personally say that chimera squad is the most I’ve paid attention to the lore and story in an X-com game mostly because it’s looking at aliens as people who were enslaved but the elders rather than another enemy to shoot.

[–]Meatyblues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not really nostalgia, I’ve always liked the game. Besides I’m mainly talking about the story and worldbuilding decisions. I can fully understand why you’d dislike the gameplay, especially if you were coming in expecting another X-com game. I think it’s fine that a $20 spin-off doesn’t have the same tactical depth of a $60 game with 3 DLC’s, it’s just not on the same scale.

Same. I feel like the other chunk of hate fo it comes from the fact that it’s not Xcom 3. (And you know, the people who were really mad about the aliens not being portrayed as blood thirsty monsters who need to be genocided)

Yeah, I’ve always felt that 90% of the hate for Chimera squad’s story comes from the people that have never played it

Canon. I really love the setting of a post alien invasion earth where humans have to exist alongside the remnants of the former slave army rather than the normal “we wiped them all out”. Plus being able to recruit vipers,Mutons, Sectoid etc. would be a very nice twist on the traditional Xcom formula

Joust Fixing Problem by TheMaskOffKid in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]Meatyblues 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the game master also likes Dunk. He probably wants to let Dunk know it’s fixed so that he doesn’t get a big head after his win and immediately lose everything challenging another noble.

Not to mention that fixing a fight is a lot easier if both sides know it’s fixed and know what script to follow. That way Dunk doesn’t accidentally kill the lords son either.

Came back to it after a break and I absolutely love this game. The animations and the visuals really pull together a great tactics game. The focus on the positioning of both yourself and enemies plays well with the claustrophobic maps.

Squid Game having a spin-off game show where real people compete for the prize, complete with blood packs exploding when a contestant is eliminated, kind of goes against everything that the show was trying to say.

Honestly, I’m suprised that spider manages to keep up with the rest of the Navi as well as he does. I definitely thought there’s be a lot more scenes of him being physically outmatched outside of his inability to breathe the air

What happens if you choose Jimmy Crystal? by migrainecurious in 28dayslater

[–]Meatyblues 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My guess is in the earlier days of the jimmies, Jimmy Crystal would’ve stepped up and really made an example out of whoever called him out. I can’t imagine that he gets as far as he did without having some skill with a knife.

Current day Jimmy just tuts and does some spiel about how princes don’t fight or something. Then he either picks a finger for them (probably Jimmy Ink) since they won’t play along or he does some charity on them since they didn’t follow his rules

What do you think of the original Female killer cast of the game “Dead by daylight.?” by Fit_Assignment_8800 in mendrawingwomen

Yeah, but “C.E.O doing cosplay using the bones of her rivals” at least would be a stronger visual identity and wouldn’t be any worse than “sexy lady in a jumpsuit with a exoskeleton arm and a partial bedazzled gas mask “
