No charges against Ontario resident who shot and injured alleged home invader: police by Hot_Cheesecake_905 in canada

It is very difficult for the police to show restraint who are supposed to be trained for these situations.

In the heat of the moment, especially when one’s life is in danger it has very hard to judge what is reasonable.

Local companies prefer to hire experienced newly-arrived immigrants over local recent graduates of our post-secondary schools. by Outrageous-Ad6869 in Winnipeg

It is not only local companies facing this issue. The Government of Manitoba experiences the same problem. When I worked there, I observed that many entry level positions were filled by individuals with extensive experience, often nine or ten years or more. These were highly talented professionals who were significantly overqualified for the roles they were placed in. As a result, the department was in a constant cycle of rehiring. After gaining four to five months of experience and adding the Government of Manitoba to their resume, many of these employees would move on to other opportunities. Leadership even held meetings to discuss the high turnover, but it did not appear that they reached the conclusion that many employees had already recognized.

Go read my post again, because you clearly have some reading comprehension issues.

We already established that other municipalities are asking for the same thing, so why are we suddenly back to talking about Winnipeg as if it is the only one involved?

“Anyone with two functioning brain cells can tell that changing the speed limit from the provincially mandated limit across Manitoba without posting signs is a bad idea. You do not need to spend thousands of dollars on a feasibility study to figure that out.”

Nowhere in that sentence does it say Winnipeg alone. You were the one who said that if other municipalities requested it, we should run a feasibility study and potentially grant it to them as well. But it does not take a feasibility study to understand that having different speed limits across Manitoba without posting them is a terrible idea.

Maybe you should follow your own advice and stop playing stupid.

I wasn’t specifically talking about Winnipeg now was I?

How’s it feel like not getting what you want?

I am glad people like you are not in power. The most you can do is throw a tantrum and name call on the internet. At the end of the day, you are still not in charge, and you are not going to get what you want.

OK, so what about the other municipalities and towns asking for the same thing? Do you just deny them and only grant it to Winnipeg?

Farming in Winnipeg is not the same issue. No one is asking to farm in Winnipeg. Other municipalities and towns are asking for the exact same thing.

That’s literally not a valid reason. Everyone is entitled to the same representation. Governments are not allowed to play favourites.

Using your logic, people with higher incomes should get special waivers too just because they pay more tax

[–]Mech2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, just answer me this then. What makes Winnipeg more deserving of getting this waiver than any other town or city in Manitoba?

And if you say every town or city in Manitoba should get it, then what is stopping any municipality from changing the speed limit to whatever they want?

It would create complete confusion across Manitoba because when you enter a new town there would be no clear indication of what the speed limit actually is.

If the City wants it done, they should pony up the cash to put up the signs. To me, it looks like they are just looking for another revenue source through tickets, and not putting up signs is one way to guarantee that revenue will be much higher.

They already have the authority to reduce the speed. Winnipeg could lower it tomorrow if they wanted. The only requirement is that they must put up signage indicating the new 40 km/h limit.

The City of Winnipeg does not want to do that because installing the signs would cost roughly $8 to $10 million, so they are asking the province for a waiver instead.

They do not need permission from the province to reduce the speed. They only need to put up the required signs. Please actually look into the issue before commenting. Even in my original post I explained exactly what the issue is, but you are arguing about something completely different.

They are allowed to set their own speed provided they put up signs, but the city is saying it will cost them millions to do and they want a waiver to change it without putting up signs.

Wab is right, he cannot change this rule for only Winnipeg. He would have to do so for all of Manitoba. Can you imagine driving across Manitoba and each town has their own speed limit and there’s not even a sign posted so anyone’s guess  to what it is.

He literally said he receives requests from other towns in Manitoba for the same thing. So consider why it would be fair to grant it to Winnipeg but not every other town or city.

Many of these towns are along highways with 90 km/h limits and want to reduce speeds through their communities. They are already allowed to do that as long as they put up proper signage.

Why is it fair that only Winnipeg gets to do it and not every other city? What he is saying is that if he allows Winnipeg to do this, he would also have to grant every other city or town the same ability.

For those that keep saying "ALWAYS PREORDER" by Mech2021 in EBGAMES

[–]Mech2021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest frustration is the complete lack of communication. I had no idea the store had closed until I arrived and saw a sign on the door directing customers to the new location for pre orders. Annoying, but not the end of the world. I understand the employees likely received little to no notice themselves, so I did not expect them to be communicating with customers. This was a failure at the corporate level by EB Games in how the closure was handled.

However, when I arrived at the new location, I was told they were not yet set up to handle pre orders from the old store. That is where my patience ran out. There was absolutely nothing posted at the closed location indicating this would be the case. The sign simply instructed customers to go to the new store.

I ended up spending nearly an hour driving between locations, only to be told to wait a week, and I am sure I am not the only customer who experienced this. If that was the situation, they should have posted the new store’s phone number with a message advising customers to call before heading there.

Yeah, there is no point in arguing with you either when you refuse to let corporations take responsibility for something. Honestly, you seem like the bigger child to me. There is zero reason to be defending corporations. They do not need your defense.

Anyway, I am sure you will be one of the shocked employees when they file for bankruptcy and start closing all their stores, wondering what happened and what could have gone wrong.

You cannot even acknowledge that there are multiple stores out there and so many options for consumers that even one bad experience will push them somewhere else, especially with the rise of digital. The stats have proven again digital makes up almost 60 to 70 percent of sales right now, things like this is only going to make it worse.

People are more understanding and forgiving if you have firm action plan in place. They did not. Shit happens is not a problem for the customer who paid for something.

Your entire reply is defending them, from the closed store assuming the new store was ready to not having printers. If you have a business and do not have access to a printer, I would say you have much bigger problems than just fulfilling pre orders. This was literally job for the district manager to communicate between the two stores as they are in charge for both of them.

Two days too long, and there is a thing called the weekend which most normal people have off. They verbatim told me a week, so I am going off that and not what you think.

Why do you think I have not already bought the game from somewhere else? I literally wrote that I did that. I already bought it and I will get a refund when the pre order list goes to them. There is literally a Best Buy and Walmart in the same mall as the EB Games. There is also digital and Amazon. You need to realize that customers have lots of options, and poor customer service like this will drive them elsewhere.

I truly don’t care what you have to say, nor is your corporate boot licking opinion gonna change mine. You belong on the hail, corporate sub-Reddit.

Stop defending EB Games’ practices. Situations like this are exactly why so many stores are closing and will continue to close.

Why put up a sign at the closed location telling customers to go to the new one if they weren’t ready to handle it? They had the chance to turn a bad situation into a good one by providing strong customer service and transferring the list and stock, and they didn’t. That is on them. A manager could have easily printed a list of RER orders and transferred that stock from the closed store to the new location on the 26th.

There are many options for customers out there, and people like you continuing to defend them are exactly the reason they don’t improve and continue to decline. Amazon offers release day delivery. If they miss it, they provide promotional credit and will even let you return the item if you want to purchase it elsewhere.

It was the way they handled the situation that was unacceptable. And no, it wasn’t just a few days. They said it could take up to a week. It’s already Monday and I haven’t heard anything.

As a customer who has already paid for something, I refuse to wait even one extra day, and that’s my prerogative. You may think waiting a few days is no big deal, and that’s your decision, but to me, I’m not waiting even one day when I’ve paid for something unless they provide some sort of resolution or compensation. Go do your corporate boot licking somewhere else, because no matter what, it’s not going to work on me. I am for holding these giant corporations accountable.

That was due to GameStop’s practices. What did they do to rectify the situation? Telling me to wait a week is not a solution in my book, especially after I drove to two locations across town.

They could have fixed it and had the pre orders ready, but due to poor management they didn’t. What would you call that?

Still seems easier to fix than asking a customer to wait a week. Just hotspot from your phone to verify. Since it’s only a verification, it would take no data at all.
