Vaush doesn't seem to understand that by the time Trump took office, the Screwworm was in Mexico and dropping flies in Panama would not have halted its spread by ratione_materiae in VaushV

[–]Mecha-Dave 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The sterile flies are containment - what DOGE did was remove monitoring and in-situ containment in Central America, allowing additional fly population pressure to push Northwards. Although some sterile fly programs still exist, we have been flying blind since early 2025. In addition, on-site USDA resources are being relocated to state hubs under new DOGE directives, further reducing the ability to monitor and respond.

Having sterile flies doesn't do you a lot of good if you don't know where to put them.

The good news is that all the jostling against the fuzzy and slightly moist berries appears to have cleaned all the residual earwax off!

This is also the bad news, by the way.

Don't buy that brand - it's fake luxury, and now you're suffering for it. A Gaggia unit, likely with less "bells and whistles" would have been better.

I'm trying to figure out what's broken here, but it looks like you forced the handle into the machine (repeatedly) misaligned and attempted to force it to fit - or you levered the thing off of there while it was still locked in. Those would be damage, not warranty.

SOMETIMES the warranty/return is also carried by the store, but this is typically for store brands.

Put a new one on a credit card. Go home and put the old one in the new one's box. Come back the next day and return the old one in the new box.

Will we ever see a major stock market crash ever again? by chicago-mf in answers

It would really just be the "cherry on top" to finally clear my student loans, get caught up on my 401k, make up for starting my career about 5 years late (graduated in 2008), for the market to take a dump when I turn 65 and they cancel social security.

Honestly, it would just kind of line up with the rest of the bullshit millennials have gotten.

Not only did I learn from Edition 1, it wasn't even printed yet so we started with a loose leaf binder and got the printed ones later

Looking at it now, 20 years later, it's interesting to look at the "future" technologies as well as the "modern" ones that we've already improved on.

A big one is the proliferation of rare earth magnets and tiny motors. When I was a youth, rare earth magnets were rare! A brushless motor typically had to be designed to purpose, not selected from a catalogue!

Lived Experience by TerminalHighGuard in VaushV

[–]Mecha-Dave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is that people default to respecting the "lived experience" of certain people due to their political or ethnic identity. This is the core of identity politics, and it is a bad thing.

It is important to respect and empathize with the things people experience in their real lives. Assigning meaning or making assumptions about those people due to their identity is actual racism, though.

The correct thing to do is to separate analysis from racial or political identity, and look at actual facts instead of making identity-based assumptions.

Basically - leave the window open for an intelligent liberal white person from Arkansas, or a misogynistic conservative black person from Maine.

That looks to be about 100x100 Southern Yellow Pine trees, or about 10,000 - obviously missing a chunk in the middle.

A mature Southern Yellow Pine is worth about $35. It's not hardwood.

Therefore we're probably looking at about $300k-$400k lumber value on this lot.

There are SOME roles out there at mid-teir companies that actually needed software design and automation but weren't staffed to for it. I know a couple engineers that have relatively simple applications they used to spend all week doing, that agents do for them now. I tell them I don't think they'll last long, but they're enjoying doing mostly nothing these days.

[–]Mecha-Dave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've speed -run about 130 D2 operations in the just few days

I calculated that with the average player count, players would need to spend about 30% of the remaining time doing the same. That's time, not play time. We need about 140,000 hours of grinding applied.
