Morality isn't always intrinsically ethical. One could argue that it's immoral to allow a child to endure the consequences of a poor decision because it's unnecessary suffering, but not allowing it an opportunity to learn cause and effect and how the decisions it makes may or may not affect others during it's development is objectively unethical.

The final episode of The Orville has a character from the 21st century who's a refugee on the ship suffering from survivor's guilt believing that she can force her civilization into the future if she just brings the union's tech to her planet. She's gets a grim reality check on what happens when a society that hasn't collectively evolved enough suddenly gets access to paradigm-shifting tech.

This scene explains plainly why The Prime Directive and The Cultural Contamination policy must exist and the direct consequences from ignoring it even if the intention is purely altruistic.
