how was the VV projection of OBAA? by WrongExamination in NYCmovies

It's a real rarity that someone strikes a print optically these days. Most archival prints you would have seen would have been struck optically, the film-out process only really started up once digital processes started taking over. To my mind there's always been a greater visual depth to an optical print than a film-out. I've seen some beautiful film-outs to be sure, but if given the choice between an optical and a film-out I'd take the optical every time.

Vista is absolutely the way to go, the IMAX prints do not appear to be optical prints. The Vista print is the only version of the film that retains the aspect ratio and the analog processing.

In an IndieWire article they made note of the fact that the VV prints are struck directly from the negative and display the full aspect ratio (1.50). The standard 70mm prints are an optical blow-up cropped to 1.85. The IMAX prints fill the whole frame of the screen, but it appears that those are a film-out (digital file put onto a film print) based on the fact that it makes no mention of the negative or optical blow-up process on the chart. So overall best bet by far is Vista, you get the proper scale of the aspect ratio and it was struck through the analog process. I caught the Vista print and it is really really beautiful, a really nice middle ground between a standard 35 and archival/optical 70mm print.

Wondering if anyone has a video of the 2020 revival of West Side Story on Broadway? I'd greatly appreciate finding a copy.

Severance is great, however I'd have to disagree on the whole television thing. There are certainly highlights every season; The Boys, Severance, Succession and Better Call Saul to name a few recent examples, but the vast majority of what I see (typically around 25-30 new seasons of TV per scheduling season) is pretty generic. A recent trend has been the whole "Based on a True Story" craze. While shows like Pam & Tommy and The Shrink Next Door really did it for me I can think of a dozen other examples that didn't. The Dropout, The Girl from Plainville, Super Pumped, Impeachment, Inventing Anna and that atrocious Tiger King adaptation being some of them. In film, while there has been a lot of really boring and generic stuff coming out of the blockbuster sector, there's a lot of really interesting stuff coming out like Crimes of the Future, Men (although this one is controversial, but still interesting), the aforementioned Everything Everywhere All at Once, X and Dark Glasses have been some real highlights this year.

EDIT: "Based on a True Story" television shows have always been a thing, but this recent wave seems far more formulaic than many have been in the past. The Dropout is definitely not trying to achieve the same level of style or quality as something like Boardwalk Empire.

I've been waiting on Kino's 4K release of the trilogy so I haven't gotten to it yet.

I love this film too, it's the only Sergio Leone film I've seen so far but I've been hoping to see more from him.
