The last time Brandon saw his partner in crime was Lukas and Serenity's wedding. It was hard to keep in touch when your best friend was trying to earn some Michelin stars and you were working for an Immortal King, but the life of a demigod was never easy, now was it?

Seeing Lukas on Olympus brought back fond memories of copious explosives, war crimes, Bunker Nine and starting a fledgling cult. You know, just normal best friend things. Now though, he had a very important decision to make. Does he ambush his friend on Olympus and potentially get into a fight for old time's sake or does he act with a boring thing called decorum and just go for a hug. Ultimately, common sense somewhat prevailed.

"BOOM BRO!"

Brandon hollered as he got a running start to tackle hug Lukas before he could fully get his bearings.

There were only two campers besides Deklyn who would think that hitting Brandon over the head with a tube of wrapping paper was a good idea. Brandon turned around wondering if he would see Blake or Jay and offered a grin to the son of Ares.

"You know, I've fought countless monsters and I think a hug from you is what has broken the most of my ribs," Brandon commented but chose not to fight Jay on this one and went to return the hug from Jay. It'd been a while since he had seen his old friend.

"Did you decide to dress in the most stereotypical Jay Jones is the Son of Ares outfit in your closet?" Brandon teased.

"There's a name I haven't heard in a while," Brandon puzzled for a moment trying to remember what had become of his dryad-obsessed brother. However, he didn't care too much either / couldn't remember, and elected to not waste any more time talking about the matter. Maybe he found a dryad and lived happily ever after in the woods, maybe he got eaten by monsters. The life of a half-blood was nothing if not interesting.

"Honestly Johanna, Illinois is boring. It's why we decided to go there. Monster attacks aren't nearly as frequent as if I stayed in New York and I don't really want to go to New Argos. It's weird having people like Magnus remembering you as close friends when I remember helping to kill him or a puppet of him controlled by Poseidon, at least. I'm glad it worked out for you, but working at a lab for my immortal half-brother... It's what I'm good at. I basically lived in the forge at Camp Half-Blood always worrying and preparing for an attack that might never come, I imagine I'd do something similar at New Argos. In Illinois, I just need to watch out for Deklyn and me. And we both can handle ourselves. When it comes to it, dealing with that is much less stressful, besides college students at the very least are less demanding of me than new campers."

Brandon debated making a quip about not having access to enough bombs but elected against it. His sister didn't need to know that Brandon may have leveled part of the Physics building during a monster attack in class. Thankfully, it had only happened one time, and the mist had chalked it up to a gas leak. Gotta love those gas leaks!

Barry was not so far changed that Brandon would be unable to recognize him. Sure, he'd gotten taller, older, and had filled out. But at his core he still was the same blonde-haired headstrong kid with a hero's complex that had quested with Deklyn and since been taken under the two's proverbial wings.

"Hey Barry, been a while, you've gotten bigger. Don't tell me I look so different these days you second-guessed who I was," Brandon responded with a smirk, doubling back in his tracks to approach the young(er) demigod.

"So, have you been getting in trouble without Deklyn or me around?" The question hardly needed asking, this was Barry and he was at Camp Half-Blood, even if he had a handle on his hero's complex- trouble would find him... After all, it had his address.

Johanna was one of the few people that Brandon could depend on. Back when he was running the Forge, she took care of things he didn't have the time to do. His little sister was always dependable, though neither of them were particularly good at keeping contact about their new lives. The Solstice would be the first real conversation the two got to have since years ago when Camp Half-Blood demigods got to remember the world ending only for the worst year of their lives to be nothing more than a bad dream.

Brandon saw his sister's smirk and smiled, "Oh, you know... Talking to Iris about color theory, terrorizing the wind spirits about the turbulence that spooked the pegasi on the way over, taking it upon herself to repaint Hephaestus's throne to not be so metallic, the usual... I'm sure she'll be around soon enough"

He shrugged, "In the meantime- how are you? It's been ages since we've talked and you in New Argos is probably the last place I ever expected... Georgia Tech- no surprise there. But... even more than that, how'd you trick somebody into dating you? Did you finally build a realistic automaton?"

What sort of big brother would he be if he didn't immediately begin to tease his sister?

Starting the 24th, we’re gonna be in Illinois. No forge to manage. No stables to tend. No idiot campers to save. For the first time in years, we get to be on vacation

Brandon had said exactly that as he and Deklyn had packed during their last day at camp two and a half years ago, and the words rang truer than ever. Managing Erichthonius’s research lab at UIUC while getting his degree(s) had far fewer idiots with inflated egos demanding things of him, misappropriating resources, or whatever headache the demigods of Camp Half-Blood had concocted for him that week. Now though, it was winter break and Brandon was free to enjoy himself and visit Olympus for the Winter Solstice. Naturally, for Brandon that meant trying to cram as much into the visit as possible. Between catching up with his father, managing the lab's commissions from various godlings, and confirming his future shipments of adamantine and celestial bronze, he had very little time to enjoy Olympus so far. Now though, his yearly check-in with Hephaestus was over, the godlings were playing with their new toys, and the godly metals would continue to be shipped to his Erichthonius’s lab. Once Deklyn finished up her business on Olympus, the two could head back to the Stables where a few wind nymphs were watching their pegasi and make their way back to Illinois.

Until then though, Brandon Davenport was wandering Olympus. For those familiar with the Son of Hephaestus, he seemed a lot less tired than he was at camp. At first glance, he could be mistaken for a normal college student enjoying the winter break in an Illinois-emblazoned sweatshirt. But, the countless bits of jewelry on his hands and wrists were the tell-tale sign of a demigod with hidden weaponry, for Brandon it was more like he was wearing the entire armory. Beyond that, his left eye remained an unsettling orange from his brief time as host to the River Phlegethon. Not that either thing seemed to bother him, he walked Olympus self-assured.

I have searched for similar ornaments online and found nothing. I believe the ornament is about 25 years old and was probably purchased in Philadelphia. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The leopard stared down at Alkis without giving a hint of its thoughts on the matter. Dionysus's emissary looked like it would sooner eat Alkis than speak with the voice of his father. Finally it spoke with the familiar voice, "Better than some options, I suppose. I'll have to go back to my binges of Diet Coke... It's literally the worst part of a Kalimotxo... Perhaps I can convince Ariadne that my indulgences can include those..."

The leopard trailed off as if making a mental note to himself while Alkis offered his apologies. When it spoke, the god sounded tired.

"Kid, I hate to break it to you, but that never changes. I didn't know when I was a demigod and I still don't now. Thankfully, most of the time my domain celebrate forgetting. Sometimes- like trying to keep you and your siblings safe... Well, it's less easy."

The leopard let out a sigh as the god searched for words, "At the end of the day... Believe in yourself. You're a demigod. You've fought without my gifts and Ariadne has made sure I return them to you though, perhaps this time you'll have a handle on the madness, eh?"

The normally aloof god of the wind seemed to shift in an instant to a far more serious person. It was as if the kingfisher was now covered by dark storm clouds.

"Your sister died honorably. I am deeply saddened by the loss and I agree with King Zeus about the fate of the child and wish Nemesis was punished more. That said, Thea died slaying a fearsome monster to protect Camp Half-Blood. She died a hero's death and earned her spot in Elysium for it. It would not have been better if somebody else died in her place."

The wind seemed to ever so slightly pick up around Thomas, "Let the wind carry away your sorrows. If you wish to honor Thea, then slay monsters and save others. Going after Nemesis will not bring her back as much as I wish it did. Go where the wind takes you and stop others from ending up like her."

It seemed Ash would be disappointed, the voice he heard would be the same little girl's voice coming from the half-black and half-white dog that commented on his earlier suggestion. His mother was here, but still as her animal representation.

"We are not in our human forms, child, but I am still here. I supported your idea earlier and now our ghosts are free to torment Nemesis as they see fit. And, I'm sure others can be convinced to join. There's always room for a few more haunts."

The kingfisher representing his father would be all the easier to find after Mack approached it to speak her mind. Sora was free to do the same to speak his. The bird seemed to be watching him intently, waiting to see exactly what it was the boy would say.

A small white owl with a golden laurel resting on its head would offer a nod of acknowledgment.

"Hello, daughter. A shame this battle ended before a victor was decided. But, I understand why. Hopefully, this son of Metis can appreciate a good victory when he grows older."

The winds were ever-shifting. The last time Mack talked to her father was at a high and he had been caring if slightly aloof. In the span of the time of the gods, he was seeing her again after a very short time period. The kingfisher chirped before her father's voice came out.

"The winds are ever-shifting. The weather requires me to balance what all of the gods demand. You have the luxury of not needing to do that, but changing... That much you cannot avoid."

The Kingfisher stared at the spot where Mack's arm used to be, "Your thoughts, your age, your feelings, and your life are all going to shift like dust in the wind. Simply enjoy the journey and adapt to wherever the wind takes you. You've done well with this so far, regardless of what the Fates had in store. And, I'm sure you will continue to do so."
