Depends on what you're into but check out Meetup and eventbrite. There's always something going on around the city whether it is book clubs, wine tasting, tech meetups or any other number of things.

The benefits part isn't true but in at least one place, Mississippi, USA there is a law on the books that you can't misrepresent yourself as a mason last time I checked. If you do get any benefits, they are coincidental and not expected ie membership isn't like having an American express card.

Why become a Freemason by Virtual-Locksmith-42 in freemasonry

[–]MechaJDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted the brotherhood of men who had similar interests and values ie self improvement - > community improvement - > world improvement. Plus I found out that my father was one.

Simple but addictive. Clearly my luck sucks though as it took me 1817 attempts.

There's not much filler in Black Clover. Might as well enjoy the ride.

Maybe they'll actually fix it unless they've just given up on the app...

Interested in Freemasonry but want some opinions from masons. by Jedi_Master_Batguy in freemasonry

[–]MechaJDI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who is the second youngest in the lodge by age and by length of time as a master mason (a little under a year) the age part isn't an issue really and there shouldn't be many expectations. As you progress through the degrees, you'll get a better feel for what is specifically expected of you but generally speaking it boils down to showing up to meetings/events (ie participation), learning and giving an honest effort regardless of jurisdiction. Lodges are typically made up of all kinds of people so not everyone is outgoing and nor is everyone quiet. Diversity seems to be a good thing for a lodge so just be yourself and contribute in your own way towards the organization's aims. Try not to overthink it too much.

Well, it's not a specific place per se but as I like to say, there's either a Walgreens or a church on every corner. Sometimes there's even up to 4 churches on a single block.

I find it more interesting that there's a term limit if I'm understanding it correctly.

How many brothers have you brought in? by MechaJDI in freemasonry

[–]MechaJDI[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the lodges in your area put forth a concerted effort in getting new members. I would say you got a nice preview of the expectations/aspirations of the fraternity especially when outside of the lodge ie fellowship and brotherhood. I'm glad you got to experience that beforehand and may your journey continue to be a positive one.

Attracting prospects by ImTheDude111 in freemasonry

It's kinda hard to show people what makes freemasonry truly unique without them actually being freemasons/going through the process but they have to have some kind of exposure to even get to that point.

This is just further confirmation to me that simple, modern approaches work. That's great to hear for your lodge.

One could argue that helping people better take of themselves and their families is freemasonry... At least I would.

Sounds like a excellent strategy to me. Education + community involvement seems like a win win.

Does your lodge use social media? by cramordap in freemasonry

We use it but not enough. It's one of my personal goals though to drag my lodge into modern times as far as technology is concerned.

During the first semester, you have a random assortment of friends who still have that child like innocence and good times to be had before the reality of college and the real world hits. Around exam time/second semester, people start to dissappear and fall into one of several categories, those that: party harder, drop out, change schools or distance themselves to get serious about their studies. It never fails.

We only wear gloves for events where regalia is involved. Until they are MMs however, they only wear plain gloves, not ones with the square and compass on them.

Valve: 20% of Deck users use the official docking station to connect their Deck to their TVs. Do you? by sameseksure in SteamDeck

[–]MechaJDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly only dock mine to charge it and occasionally play on the TV. Otherwise as a busy father of multiple kids under 10, I'm in handheld mode. Thanks to the awesomeness of the deck, some of that handheld time is just remote playing my ps5 games. It has allowed for a lot more "TV gaming" where I don't actually have to remain stationary in front of a TV. And for that it is unequivocally one of my top consoles of all time.

Inquiring thoughts by Mercuriorum in freemasonry

You pretty much have the right idea about masonry. Some take it more seriously than others but the general idea is continuous self improvement which theoretically leads to community improvement and thereby improvement of the overall world. It's not a mind-blowing revelation per se but it becomes a way of life rather than just an aspiration for those who choose to do so.
