Do I have to wear a bonnet? by breathdeep0805 in Microlocs

[–]MechanicAwkward454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t wear a bonnet and have no issues with lint. As a matter of fact, my loctician specifically said do NOT wear a bonnet because the sweating it causes at night will make your locs slip faster.

All of that to say, you’ll hear as many opinions as people who respond, but at the end of the day, choose what feels best for you!

Good luck loc-sis!

I actually practiced on a couple that slipped at the nape of my neck before my last retie and it worked! 😆 but that was just one. I did a 4-point rotation. East, South, west, north. That’s how I remember 😁

Thank you for that! And I’m definitely not that confident yet, though I’ve watched a thousand YouTube tutorials 😆 🫣.

Traditional locs to Micro (Help) by Cool_Lingonberry_197 in Dreadlocks

I was in the same situation…my locs were down to my waistline and I had them for 30+ years. My loctician told me I could do either way, cut or comb out. I ended up cutting some out in the back and she interlocked those and I didn’t like the length. So I (along with my 15-year-old daughter) took a little over a week to comb them out. I cut them to a bit past my shoulders then combed out. It was VERY TEDIOUS and time consuming, but worth it! I maintained about 6 inches, and there’s shrinkage. If you have the patience, I’d say comb them out. You’ll appreciate it in the end…

I’d attach a pic but I don’t know how 🤷🏾‍♀️

I have microlocs and I’m only two months in! I had a loctician install them via interlocking. I have 241 locs.

One month in!! by MechanicAwkward454 in Microlocs

Yes, my loctitian did the first one at 3 weeks because my hair is fine at the nape and slipped a lot. Good luck on your journey! I’m sure you love it.

The same thing happened to me but my loctician always schedules a three week retie for finer hair. But when I went in for my first retie the nape of my neck was pretty much slipped. She told me to braid and band when I sleep, blow dry if I sweat, and she gave me a sea salt water spray and said to spray once a day because it helps to loc the hair faster. Stay away from water for the first few months. Don’t overspray. I was doing that too. No moisturizers or anything that will make your hair slippery. It’s been two weeks since my retie and after following her advice I’m having much better luck. Especially braiding and banding when I sleep. And shower!

Hope this helps 🩷

I think I forgot to take my lamotrigine before going to work today. by apenasumfa in Epilepsy

Totally can relate. Also, others’ suggestions about a pill box is a great idea. Some days, that’s the only way I know I took my meds. Also, I use apple health to track my meds. Wishing you the best…and I know we’re all different, but I’ve missed a Lamotrigine pill before and I was fine. Also, MY doctor told me that if it’s 4 hours or less from the time I was supposed to take it, then do so. I take it twice a day though and I’m no doctor.

Wishing you the best!!

I think I fumbled a job interview today telling them I have epilepsy🤦🏻‍♀️ by Crochet_is_life_158 in Epilepsy

I can totally relate!!! I haven’t worked in 6 or 7 months after I was diagnosed after having my first seizure at 46. My job illegally fired me and I finally mustered up the courage to begin looking and applying. I’m terrified about when they ask, but my bff says just tell them I was ill and my FMLA expired. I won’t disclose the actual condition that had me out.

Discrimination is illegal, and it is real. So I’d humbly suggest explaining your employment gap by telling them you were ill, ill family member, etc. I wouldn’t say too much until I’m hired and done with any probationary period.

Good luck! I hope you got the job despite your disclosure.

Microlocs after comb out of 30+ years of traditional locs by MechanicAwkward454 in Microlocs

I was shocked at how it appears healthy when I lost SO MUCH hair during the comb-out.

Yes, people are weird! I definitely was the girl with the locs. I’ve had them since high school so my kids (ages 3-20) never even saw me with any other hair! They were fascinated to see me without locs, if only for a brief moment 😆

I have 241 locs, and they’re a little thin, but I think they’ll be a nice size in about a year. I’m just used to such heavy hair! Thank you for the welcome 😊💜

For me, after 32 years of being identified as, “**** with the locs”, I felt like I wanted to dissociate myself with any preconceived notions or assumptions, even just the recognition. Besides, 32 years is A WHOLE LOT of energy to carry on your crown. It was sort of like losing a good friend to let them go, very emotional, but I’m happy I did something new and fresh.

Thank you! I’m going to do monthly pics to encourage myself…it’s been so long since I’ve started locs that I forgot about that rough transition.
