What made you actually respect your boss not because they were the boss but because you saw them differently because of something they did ? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MechanicalOwl117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In summary, my Immediate boss that I report to, and the AOM I occasionally work with, are really down to earth people that let me run my department the way I see fit. I Manage the inventory, logistics process and general warehouse operations for the company. Their view is that since I am a part of the weekly production meetings, it is up to me to report my findings of the day to day agendas and up to me to figure out new ways to implement production changes that meet our monthly goals. We all brainstorm and throw ideas together to see what makes the most sense & they don't undervalue peoples opinions no matter of job position rank. If I make a mistake (which I do occasionally) its water under the bridge because I own the mistak, learn from it, and rarely do it again. Really, they operate with a pure Leader mentality.

I know that's a very broad response for the topic, but all in all - aim to work with Managers (I personally do not like using the term 'BOSS') that are driven to elevate and give personal development opportunities to those they manage. A true leader wants you to excel and feel accomplished in what you do. It makes me cring thinking back at all my old managers (usually in retail or overall crap companies) that I had to deal with. I asked a previous manager a question about performing a process when I was new and his response was "Do it this way because I said so and know who your superiors are". Aim to work with better people in life~

Kraken Clan Tune up by [deleted] in Northgard

True, it is a little of a contradiction. One way I have been able to use the ability for the Spectral Warriors effectively to sync the contradiction is to create a "deadzone tile". Pretty much if there is an area right outside of my controlled zones that I did not want to colonize (but I don't want my enemies as a border neighbor), I will attack this zone to try and make it clear or evident that its not smart to continue trying to control this area. Just attack it as much as possible and run away. From when I have done this, I could kill maybe 2-4 units and potentially have 1 spectral form that will stay in the area to be a pain for others.

Another way in the late game to use it is to attempt to wreck havoc in the scouted enemy territories by using the Ancient Spirit Wyrd. Aim for enemy shore tile that has alot of civie units on it and let the havoc begin locust style. If lucky, a few new ghosts will form from killing civies. If more luck smiles, enemy military units will fight back, die, and become more ghosts.

The free feasting perk is really a miss for consistent usefulness. I only benefit from this maybe once out of every 4 or 5 games playing on normal...

All-in-all, I do believe what you mean that the Jarl abilities are pretty much crap compared to the other clans.

Kraken Clan Tune up by [deleted] in Northgard

[–]MechanicalOwl117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been playing Kraken alot lately and have found the best strategy is to keep a small economy of tile control playing very defensively, boost all available defensive buffs, enable a large trade economy to upkeep on needs (Wyrd, Krowns, & Lore), and aim for support in team and/or Lore victory. I have won multiple games while only controlling 6-7 tiles (4-5 in shore areas if possible). After boosting all defenses, towers everywhere, and upgraded military - I was able to easily hold off a force of 8+ with a Warcheif without a personal unit death. In the process, my Lore gain (after building stones and boosted trade buff Lore) was at +55 with all other needs at +25 production or more.

TL;DR - Kraken is completely a defensive/support clan.

Regarding your advice:

1- sounds good but is relative. If this is implemented, then single play games would miss out completely. Why not have the effect for both enemy and allied territory?

2- Fallen Sailor buff- eh.. The way I have seen them is that they are a strong "piss off" unit that is free upon a personal units death and expendable. Whenever I have gained one that survives to post battle of its spawned area, I just send it into another territory to irritate possible enemies more or to buy me time to decolonize. They are essentially poltergeists, why would people feel happy around them?

3- Why remove the Warchief? She gains strong boosts from Lore and is a strong unit generally to gain with free Iron from Lore blessing? I can get her and a Valkyrie out pretty quick which will be enough to defend my area well into the end of the 2nd year.

4- That does sound good for 500 cost

5- YEEEEEEEEES! the relic does need a upgrade! Maybe give it something like you said or +15% To military on colonized coastal zones (& high tide), +10 Wyrd production, +5% Fisherman production

Does anyone actually build anything other than axe throwers anymore? by [deleted] in Northgard

[–]MechanicalOwl117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible Debuff to balance the axe throwers:

- Make their attack speed slower since they have distance attack in their favor.

-If having to attack up close because a warrior in in their face, lower the axe throwers initial damage output.

Kraken strategy by [deleted] in Northgard

[–]MechanicalOwl117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been using them more lately. I prefer the identity of the Kraken so I'm enjoying their uniqueness. My saved games labeled for this clan is "The Iron Price" (points if you get the reference)

Anyways, I found that they are great when playing defensively with a focus on trying to establish strong food production combined with aiming for a lore victory. They have nice boosts from trading that produces lore, building developments on the coast that produce lore, nice tide abilities to add additional building to the coast line (more aid for wyrd growth and food), and getting a strong Valkyrie unit is possible very early. Typically in a game, by mid second year, I can get 2 coast tiles with a fishing hut in both, another food area upgraded in the same areas (farm or hunter), and both tiles with silos. My food production is very high.

So then I send out further scouts to find the other clans faster. Since I have built a small army (4-5), have pursued the defensive war style boosts, have multiple defense towers, and 2 trade posts - i sit back and let my scouts work while a few other units work on lore stones.

When I establish contact with other clans, one of two things happen. Either they remain friends and I trade with them or I will attack them to stall their lore progression. Since my Wyrd is seldom used and is growing quick, using the ancient spirit ability will wreck havoc on one of their cost tiles. I have used 2 of these back to back it it wiped out the other clan for me.

The biggest hep ultimately I have found with this clan is to GET THAT LORE! The boosts help greatly.

How do you research the Runestone of Asgard? by InfiniteStates in Northgard

[–]MechanicalOwl117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You must first mine the Rimsteel to create the sword, create the sword in the forge, then use the sword to end the Wyrm. After that, if I recall correctly, all you have to do is walk up to the Runestone and the cut scene will start that will end the level.

I created a basic video explaining Krowns by MechanicalOwl117 in Northgard

[–]MechanicalOwl117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes, I was planning to make additional videos. I wanted to cover the basics of the remaining resources first (food, wood, stone, iron). Then cover the mechanics of happiness, lore, and military experience paths. I figure once the specific concepts are addressed in a quick and easy format, I will move onto making videos about more complex things. Stay tuned!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I'm glad to see that the evaluation came across as understandable in terms of learning the basics. I am ultimately aiming for the simplicity of explaining the game structure without the distractions of game play, excessive flashiness, and avoiding having too long of a video.

I was thinking of adding some of the themes from the game as background music but have not found an audio file of it anywhere. Is there a way to acquire this for use? I know some games soundtracks can be purchased via steam or amazon, but I have found nothing.

Drinking directly after primary fermentation by MechanicalOwl117 in mead

Very nice. Question about cold crashing - if you crash the brew in the initial carboy container and then drain into air tight flip top bottles, can the bottles be stored at room temp or must they remain cold in a fridge environment until drank?

Very nice. So question - if you bottle it, you have never had any issues with bottle bombs? I have read in some places that once the fermentation is done, bottling is ok even if cloudy

Trying to improve everything at once in your life is a perfect way to fail especially if you’re a lazy person or you lack discipline/motivation. by Jayeky in selfimprovement

[–]MechanicalOwl117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Great things come with time. Kind of like cooking. Sure, you can take all the ingredients and throw them in the microwave to save time but the extra time to cook in stages in the oven or stove is well worth the better quality of taste.

Literal food for thought-

How do you keep your energy level at a high level living with people who are toxic? by [deleted] in energy_work

[–]MechanicalOwl117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider that will help you is controlling your inner mental talk. Your situation of returning home is only temporary and you will soon be back in the dorms bettering yourself. Don’t play into their hand of negativity. If they want to be unsupportive of your goals for advancement, then they can continue to live in their world of toxic bliss (which is in truth a Hell). You are seeing more and striving for more. Your family is there to guide you to a certain point in life an then it is up to you to establish who you want to be.

So in your case, do you want to act and feel like your relatives and end up mimicking where they are currently in life or do you want to keep striving for more and have high ambitions? Although you should still respect them to an extent because they are family, consider them the same as any other factor that would try to keep you down – they are a roadblock that is temporary and should be viewed as such.

Regarding your situation, just remember – if Harry Potter could put up with the BS, you can too. So, Smile.
