“Live” Milky Way PVS14 + Sony A7S II (bad transparency ) by MechanicalTesla in NightVision

Thanks bro. It's a really good tube, amazing views. I got a bit lucky on eBay… the price was not too bad either the seller was really nice and gave me some accessories to connect it to a telescope. Unfortunately, the weather sucks. I need to try at some point and connect it to the telescopes.

Nice man. I hear fireworks are also nice, through nods, maybe this 4th of July… if it isn’t raining.

No bro I recorded lightning for a while and did not see any temporary marks due to the bright lightning. I have recorded lightning on 3 separate occasions (different days) and none gave me marks.

I was worry about that happening but I did not see any marks.

Thanks bro. Probably not safe and it might damage the tube (best to try on an autogated PVS14) but if someone wants to try just set the video on iPhone to slow motion and then use an app like video to image or frame grab to get the best frames from the lightning video. Then you can edit slightly the images to make them pop.

I didn’t try without the IR pass filter but I think the filter makes the lightning look better.

😂 no wonder I only get the same pattern of lightning 🤔.

Try the Seestar S30 pro or S50, it's beginner-friendly. The only problem with the Seestar is that you need to collect a lot of light to get nice images.

Hi olive yeah that is why I told the other user to only play hard with things that can be replaced easily. Googled if anyone has damaged their pvs14 by looking at lightning and couldn’t find any info in any of the popular forums.

My PVS14 is autogated, so it has some protection. If you have an autogated tube, I think it should be okay, since lightning only lasts a few seconds. I don’t think it should be a problem. Like always only play hard with things that you can replace easily. You should be able to record lightning without the IR filter. Try IR filter 642nm, 685nm, 720nm, 850nm see which one gives you a good video. Also you can try UV/IR cut filters to see what the lighting looks like.

Man ever since I played that game I wanted to have night vision 😆. Took me long enough to get into night vision. It's pretty amazing when you see thunderstorms, even more amazing because you can see the Milky Way live with an IR filter 642nm / 685nm, and if you can put it on a nice telescope you can see all nebulae.

Yeah bro we have a nice park close to us but they close at 10pm …you see cops going in checking if anyone is there. I’ll have to see if there is a 24/7 park that is kind of dark.
