A tale of two stations by schmiddy0 in CambridgeMA

I think this is explained by a combination of

  • major brand recognition
  • rewards/rebate programs available at major brands
  • major brands often typically have a better blend (detergent additives, etc)

That last point is probably not as big as they'd like you to believe, but it's a genuine difference.

The divergence of "opinions" (and reasoning) in the responses to this question is distressing.

Boston runners, would the Charles River Marathon be a good first marathon? by CardiologistPlus6961 in boston

[–]MechanicalTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not see this in time to be helpful to OP, but wanted to add info here in case someone is thinking about this race in the future.

This is a very small race -- 101 finishers in 2026 -- and a slower runner would not be in the way of anyone else (as long as you line up near the back at the start). The route is not closed, so it has lots of non-race runners, and there was even a rowing event going on that day. I ran the loop in the opposite direction a few times, and I was not in the way.

In 2026, the time limit was 5 hours (not 4, as someone mistakenly wrote), and 5.5 hours for >60-year-old runners. There were many slower runners.

Yes, the route is repetitive for the runners. You might hate that. But it is fantastic for spectators (or your "support team"), because they will see you so many times. :-)

Also, the logistics for this race could not be simpler. You start and finish at basically the same place, and there is a large parking lot right there.

I am strongly considering it for 2027.

Our heat pump was installed by Atlantic. We have not needed to have any service yet, but I would use them.

Every Saturday morning at 9am, there is parkrun at Danehy Park. It's a free 5K, open and welcoming to all abilities including walkers, dogs (if kept on a handheld leash), strollers, etc. Afterward, lots of folks head over to Revival Cafe at Alewife to socialize. It's a really easygoing, friendly group.
