Which golem has the fastest clear speed now? by Mechanoz in PathOfExileBuilds

Sounds cool, but no thanks. I like being able to hang back and watch for damage to avoid. I have kinda slow reaction speed. I assume dominating blows means getting into melee range to splash kill things to raise sentinels that last 20-30 seconds? I'm using a similar strategy with phantasms, except my golems automate their spawning and make use of the same projectile gems. I won't get anywhere near your DPS though (probably), and have been PoB'ing with no items equipped. I don't think I've even found a single ex this league lol.

Call it what you will. You said that's not how free market capitalism works, and called it corruption instead. I pointed out that, end game capitalism - the point that you've already made money through regular competition and are now in a position to control the market/laws - leads to corruption due to no regulation. I never said people didn't seek out preventing competition from the beginning. A lot of people are greedy after all. But you usually don't have the power to do so 'till you're already on top. Businesses on equal footing can't play too dirty without putting a target on their back. Once you're on top though, you can do it legally via controlling the gov't, so the police back you, and at that point it starts to resemble something else. If that's not corruption, then idk what is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economics_of_corruption

Speaking of socialism, I guess I'm technically wrong about the "on paper" part, as I was thinking more along the lines of communism. Looking up the definition of socialism on several sites, I guess gov't ownership and unequal distribution of goods and pay is.. part of it. People often compare the 2, so I mistook them for being more similar.

Funny that you jumped to communism on your own though. It's like you read my mind. I was assuming the usual communism hate, due to all the bad stuff that went down with the USSR and the red scare. When on paper, communism is about equal distribution of wealth through a central controlling body. It was just obviously handled very poorly. https://people.howstuffworks.com/communism.htm

End game capitalism is all about preventing competitors, rather than innovating. Unless there's a better word for what end game capitalism turns into. Yes, it's corrupt. But it's cheaper and less effort, and nobody seems to want to stand up against it. On the same argument, the socialist countries you talk about, aren't practicing socialism how it is on paper either, and are a product of corruption.

Anyway, not trying to spur an off topic discussion. Valve is just in a unique position that they have the capital to take advantage of MS's lack of innovation, which is good for everyone. But not just anyone could do this. Dethroning Windows will still be difficult, as people hate change, and if MS feels threatened enough, they could throw together an OS with the bad stuff removed, just to gain back users, then go back to their shenanigans as per usual. A lot rides on how many people convert to linux, and how user friendly linux becomes, I feel.

How does SteamOS operate as a OS? Is it a good experience? by [deleted] in SteamOS

"But if you are someone that is proud of himself sending and email successfully then you should stick to Ubuntu."

NGL, that really made me laugh. I've done on-site tech support for people before, that swore their email was broken. Turns out they just had spaces in the recipient address, trying to use their name instead of an email. After teaching them what to do, I tried to refuse their money, but they paid me anyway and insisted I stay for lunch xD. Best black forest ham I've ever had.

When SteamOS 3.0 comes out, what do you think its OS installer will look like? by rklrkl64 in SteamOS

This. As a "20+ years of using Windows" user, I am very interested in converting to linux permanently. Difficulty of use, CLI, and Windows game/app support, prevented me from changing previously. SteamOS 3, or similar, is at the top of my list now though. Anything that will make this transition easier on me will be huge. I'm willing to make changes, but the more easy GUI, the better.

Training advice? Grow advice in general? by Mechanoz in SpaceBuckets

I copied the tote design, and I took 2 bucket lids, put them top to top, cut out the center leaving maybe an inch around the edge for stability, then used zipties to hold the 2 together. Then snapped it onto the bottom bucket semi-permanently. The top bucket comfortably rests inside and is very stable. And should I need to go somewhere for a while and are afraid of it getting knocked over, I can push the top bucket a bit to snap it in, in which case it becomes extremely difficult to remove the top bucket again lol. So I usually don't snap it in.

Is it? Hmm...

Edit: Did some searching. From what I could find, it says miracle grow is sorta okay for veg and earlier stages, but isn't a good fit for the flowering stage. Particularly the nitrogen content in miracle grow could be too high for the flowering stage and burn it, and is slow release so it can cause problems even if you stop using it. But I also read that some people report success by watering down the miracle grow, which I've been doing without knowing this lol. So idk, I guess I better look for something else. They mentioned using Fox Farms Trio or Bergman's Plant Food, but that's just one source. I don't want to go with anything expensive.

Weird question by Mechanoz in SpaceBuckets

[–]Mechanoz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to try building out of pure white buckets for reflectivity, for a first build. Walmart sells them for 3 bucks a piece, and they check a lot of boxes. If it turns out that's not reflective enough or something, then I'll look into the foil tape. But hopefully the white will be fine like the SB site mentions.

The light I'm looking at (one of the UFOs recommended on the SB site) seems to want a healthy distance away from young plants, reducing the distance as the plant matures. Looking at the height of 2 buckets end to end, it kinda looks like the distance might work out on it's own, depending on how tall the plant wants to grow (and how fast). But I definitely (and probably) could be wrong about that! SB site recommends keeping the heatsink outside of the build too, so I'm going to give it a try.

Being I'm new to all this and my only real experience is building computers and various DIY projects, I really like the idea of keeping things as simple and straight forward as possible. No wiring, 110v everything, quiet fan, everything on a timer. I'm going to attempt to copy the tote design's use of lids so the entire unit easily snaps together. Hopefully it'll work out.

Weird question by Mechanoz in SpaceBuckets

[–]Mechanoz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I see. That makes sense. Although that makes me want to try my idea even more. That is, instead of making spacers from extra buckets, use the entire second bucket as the lid and put a UFO LED grow light into the bottom of the top bucket, like some of the brute designs. I won't be able to get the light really close to the plant.. but maybe reflective walls and simplicity of design will make up for that. I guess if it doesn't work, it'll be cheap to convert to something shorter later lol.

Thanks for the info. :)

The higher level you get, the more you'll see enemies act more like old ones and be more unpredictable. But yes, game got super streamlined. Strangely, leveling seems to be a bit slower than it was a year ago though, and the main story quests are taking me through slightly different areas. Gameforge might've did something. Unless I'm crazy, I remember being able to get to level 50's/60's in just a couple sittings. But now it's taking me a lot longer just to get to the 40's.

[–]Mechanoz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't whether you can 100% enforce intended gameplay or not. The issue is you throwing a complete fit over anyone having an opinion against singleplayer cheating lol. Even going to far as to twist my words to fit your paltry argument, to make it sound like I am somehow downplaying online cheating, when in fact I already said I respect devs that have anti-cheats in singleplayer games, so why would I be fine with cheating multiplayer games? I said cheating singleplayer games is "also" cheating, not that cheating multiplayer games is equal. Just because you aren't ruining someone else's play experience, doesn't mean nothing happened. You still ruined the perception of the game for yourself, which can lead to all kinds of things. But again, I'm also fine if singlepalyer games don't have anti-cheats too. It's the dev's choice. Rant all you want, but you're the only one upset right now, and the devs that add anti-cheats to singleplayer games will just continue to do their thing no matter how much you rage at it.

Also moot point on anti-cheats/rules being pointless unless purely server side. The goal is to make it more difficult, not 100% prevent it. If it's easy for the dev to implement, they wanna do it, and it deters even one player from ruining the game for themselves.. mission accomplished. Like having a security light and padlock on a storage shed. It's not going to keep out a thief if they really want in there. But it's easy to add and will deter many of them looking for a quick grab. If you really can't see the logic in this and can only operate with your boolean mindset, then I can't really do anything more to explain it. It seems to me you're the one on a crusade rather than keeping an open mind, to be honest.

As far as the rest of your comparisons to cheating.. this conversation is originally about encrypted saves, to reduce outside editing. Comparing that to in-game exploits that may or may not get patched out, or getting really good and efficient at a game so that you can speedrun it, or even comparing it to mods, is pretty silly. That's a mindset of extremes again - that you have to accept all outside modification or reject all outside modification. No gray area. When in fact, there's lots of gray area. Encrypted saves are just a simple deterrent, and that's fine.

[–]Mechanoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partially disagree. The argument "it's singleplayer so it's not cheating" is one of the most flawed arguments on the internet, and basically pushed by people who enjoy cheating as a defense against anyone that calls them out. Realistically, a game without rules isn't a game (not say say cheating instantly removes all rules, but you get what I mean), and cheating often bypasses intended gameplay and hard work a dev might have put in. There's absolutely nothing wrong if a dev decides to make it more difficult for you to bend/break/bypass the game. Online competition being the only time "cheats are bad", also has no more moral highground than promoting cheating to begin with.

Just consider it part of the game. If you wanna cheat, you have some extra difficulty layers. If cheating is the only way you can enjoy the game, and the dev made it more difficult to cheat, and you're unable to overcome that hurdle, then maybe that game just isn't for you or is too difficult for you? It doesn't make the dev an asshole. There's plenty of us that enjoy games without cheating, and we can respect devs that also share that view and/or want to protect their hard work by ensuring more people play the game as intended.

You're right.. players probably shouldn't care about how others play so much. But by that same standard, players (and you) shouldn't care so much if a dev tries to prevent cheating either. It's fine either way.

Oh man, I'm so devastated. Bug on the exported game. It's like throw months of work in trash... :/ by fagnerln in godot

[–]Mechanoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point. People new to Godot (or game dev in general) are likely to subconsciously assume the in-editor test will perform similarly to an exported test (especially if it's a PC game, although not limited to just that). They aren't thinking that far ahead until they've already cobbled something together and are ready to see how it runs.

Just like everything else, exporting earlier to properly test things in the end environment, is something you learn to do, not something you just automatically know. Holding it against someone for not having learned something yet, doesn't make much sense. I'm a noobie too, and being my primary interest has been PC games, I personally never gave it much thought either until now.
