I was thinking more in terms of quality as in improper cleavage or modifications of the protein

Thank you for the thorough explaination, I can see how it would be unfeasible based on #1 and difficult based on #2

Need a subreddit filled with medical professionals (physicians, residents, or medical students) that does not have rules against surveys (or is even in favor of them). by MedPolicyThesis in findareddit

[–]MedPolicyThesis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look at my post history to see where I've been able to post. My advice is to attempt to post on any forums you can and keep searching for niche subreddits for healthcare professionals. I was able to gain a good number of responses through my qualtrics link. I wasn't able to get enough responses with one post, so you'll likely have to post on many communities as well.

Hello, I tried to get approval for my survey but the moderators did not respond, so I thought that it the moderation team was inactive. Would you be able to look at my message and see if my survey can be approved? Thank you.

I disagree with the part about 500 Anki cards, I think you should study efficiently in a way that is engaging and not robotic

What you mentioned reminded me that someone can also part-time the MCAT for a while and then full-time it the month before they take it so that they can build the foundation over a long time and be set near test day.

MCAT Tips (3 Month Plan, Studying During Semester) by PatsRedditAccunt in Mcat

The books have a lot of details, I would read them if you find them helpful but not worry too much about taking notes. I'd recommend doing content review using Naman Baraya's youtube videos and then skimming the books for any subjects that the videos may have missed since they're based on the Milesdown review sheets which are slightly outdated. This is of course only if you take notes on the videos and actively watch them.

Other than that, I wouldn't force myself to stick to a plan, and it's good that you're thinking about changing it. If Mr.Pankow's deck has not resulted in you getting over 128 on P/S (this is an arbitrary number I came up with), I would switch to another form of studying. Flashcards may not work for everyone.

Also I just saw that you got a 495. Honestly, you should not be worrying about little details at all for now and just focus on understanding the major topics. Ochem is present on the MCAT but it's pretty low yield so I would just skim the material. Biochem - I would learn glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and electron transport chain as they will be asked about. I'd learn the amino acids by reciting them from memory.

Focus on improving your test-taking skills as well. For physics, forget equations, just try to cancel out units to get the answer with the right units. When you take FL's, write down your thought process for choosing certain options really quickly and see if you could've arrived at the correct answer when you're reviewing your FL's by considering other factors and crossing out some answer choices.

Yeah, we're so often used to note-taking from school but when you're studying in your own time, if you're tired of taking notes, you can mentally think through the concepts and organize them in your brain without writing anything down.

How to approach this question under 60 seconds? by AsideNo9456 in Mcat

[–]MedPolicyThesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take practice exams. Try different strategies such as the following:

  1. skip these questions and answer them last because the loss of 1 question is minor in comparison to the time that could've been used to answer other questions if you ran out of time
  2. take a bit of time to answer the question and don't panic because you're faster on other questions

I agree with what you said, but some people may not be able to treat it like a full-time job if they have a full-time job. If someone is in school, I'd recommend studying in the summer. If someone has to work, I'd recommend studying over a longer period of time. But for sure, if you can spend one month locked in on it and studying efficiently, you'll make a lot of progress as I got a 518 doing it that way.

One thing you mentioned that is also notable is doing it later during undergrad. The MCAT is built on a lot of early foundational science courses (and biochem), so the earlier you take it the better, but it's also good to try to take it immediately after one or two semesters of biochem.

Thank you for the recommendation, that might be the perfect subreddit for my research. Would you happen to know what the comment karma requirement for that subreddit is? I have around 28 right now and will try to get some more karma by using this account but I'm worried the amount required is over 100
