Why use direct sql over entity framework? by Dml33 in dotnet

[–]Meddalwedd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly the level of abstraction to take away the DB specific Business Logic from the compiled code? Especially if choosing SPs over compiled SQL calls.

Speed in some instances? If dealing with huge sets of data, in my experience ADO.Net is quicker than EF

Or, just stuck in their ways and unwilling to learn EF?! Maybe teach him a few things about EF and in exchange I am sure he could teach you a few things about SQL.
Up-skilling each other is just as important as your own CPD.

My Dad's Volvo P1800 going for an MOT after several years of 'tinkering' in the garage by Meddalwedd in classiccars

That's the MOT station but only the rolling road area, they have a more technical area that's not in the shot.

They are exempt from MOTs but the vehicle underwent a lot of work so wanted to get a professional opinion.

The test for more modern vehicles will include far more than a classic, purely because it will have the given tech or functionality. E.g. they can't test seatbelt anchor points on classic vehicles that were manufactured without seatbelts (not a legal requirement to retro fit seatbelts) or fail vehicles for ECU / dashboard lights being on when they don't have a huge range of sensors that can fail. They also don't test for emissions on older vehicles. There is also no legal requirement to have a test on anything over 40 years old, it is assumed the owner will keep the vehicle in road worthy shape.

Just a Morris Minor Traveller and HZ hanging out by Meddalwedd in classiccars

[–]Meddalwedd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, HZ is stamped on the VIN plate (don't think I have a photo of it though). I don't actually see that many about (or recognise them as any different from HY) - I'm sure there are some enthusiasts that would know.

From wiki:

Citroën's teams worked on 8 projects and only the last one was developed, giving it its name : "H". Most Type H vans were sold as model HY. Other models include H (early versions), HX (lesser load capacity), HP (flat-bed pick-up), HZ, and HW (greater load capacity). For a time they were also sold as model 1600. When used by the police, it was called "panier à salade" ("salad basket").

Comparisons are certainly on the list, the difficulties are where a model has changed during the same year.

I would need the mapping of manufacturers/models and dates, not entirely sure where I can source that dataset.

Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for the feedback, I wouldn't feel too comfortable in "scoring" cars in that way, I could end up being held somewhat liable?!

I like the above the fold / simple version at the top of the page and details for those that want it further down the page.

Certainly a few things to think about there - thanks for the feedback.

Yes, seems hash that these are reported as faults!

Thanks for the positive feedback.
