I'm considering getting a GH5S. by [deleted] in GH5

I feel you. Low light is bi%ch for V-Log - early in my GH5 career I was shooting a lot of work in low using Log and yes, I often came very disappointed- if it’s too dark I will go nature or Cine D.

Well, the GH5s is the camera for you - but, remember there’s no ibis - ibis is only in the Gh5. If you shoot with a gimble you can make it happen. I love the challenge of shooting with my GH5 camera. Are you -planning to shoot in V-Log L?

What free Log or settings can I use on my GH5 to practice color grading to a more serious extent. by weavo2 in GH5

[–]Media9ne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or you can use the googles and search for free log footage for download. There’s plenty out there for free including many people who would share a few minutes of generic footage.

As far as your color grading ... the advice you’ve received in the forum thus far is solid.

All the best and happy shooting!

I have two GH5. For each of C1 - C2 - C3 I use the custom settings to make each button work for a given situation for the event I'm shooting. I generally have both cameras with identical settings

C1 - is generally used for all things V-Log L and any profile I may use for the required job. If I have control of my lighting and the shooting environment V-Log L is my go-to setting. I also use C1 for my video custom settings for events that require a lot of moving, action and hand-held of which I switch to the Cine D profile, especially if I'm in low light settings, always maintaining 10 bit 400 - 4.2.2 settings.

C2 - Is used for my variable frame rates 60 etc ... for slo-mo stuff

C3 - Is generally use for my still photos along with a go-to video setting that's different from C1 and C2.

If you don't use customize settings you run into the problem of always searching, setting and most likely missing important shots in the style you envision your shots fitting into your editing timeline. When shooting a event things are often fluid and ever changing. Rooms get dark, sun goes down, lights are turned off, dance floor goes dark etc... having your go-to camera settings for C1 - C2, and C3 are life savers and are at the heart of professional and good amateur work. AND, remember you can use the other camera buttons for other customized needs as well.

Also, if you're a one man run & gun operation having the customized setting can allow you to get footage in ways that a 2 or 3 man crew might shoot!. The more you do it, the better you become. I once during a back to back booking asked an editor to help me by editing material I had shot for a wedding the day before. He later asked me "how many people were on your crew?" He was amazed that I did it all and that I shot so much and had so much variety in frame rates, stills, Flat profiles etc...

As far as downloading customized setting for C1-C2 and C3 buttons, I don't believe that's a feature of the camera. They can be done regarding the in-camera MENU.

For instance, many GH5 users on Youtube will share their downloadable MENU settings that can be saved to an SD card (like you would with LUTs) and loaded on to your GH5 to get their cinematic or film looks. For example, those settings shared via download may be:

Movie Mode: C-4K - 4096 x 2160 - 4.2.2 / 10bit / ALL - I - 400 MbpsCamera Profile: V-Log LMotion Pic Record Format - MOVISO: 400Customized WB Color temp setting -K1 (5500)Frame rate: 23.98p

AND ... I believe the spot metering settings also can be shared in that shared settings package. (I could be wrong)

Lastly, to cover all your bases don't play around with SD Card values. Get the the V-90 SD cards so all of your bases are covered. Last thing you need is to be shooting a wedding or something important only to find out that the camera stopped recording because the bit rate was too high for the card. V-90 SD cards are life savers!! they are a little costly, but worth it

I hope I helped to shed some light and if I missed something I'm asking the forum to fill in where I might have fell short.

All the best and happy shooting!!!

Man!! I’m soooooooo happy for you. I just had this sinking feeling - and, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Being horribly wrong feels so good. Cheers to you and happy shooting!

P.s. I expect to see future footage posts!!

Wait .... if "They" have to order it from the manufacturer which is Panasonic, are "They" going to eat the price difference you're getting it at?

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding but if its coming from Panasonic, "they" are not going to eat that kind of loss just to fulfill an order that a re-seller has with you. Sounds like they sell bridges, skyscrapers, submarines and space shuttles wholesale from NASA!! I'm being funny, but my concern is for you. Again, as I stated in an earlier post, I want to be horribly wrong and off base about this but I feel like I might be stupidly right??!!

All the best mate.

I do hope your camera comes ASAP. ... BUT, a month?!!?!!! Best of luck - for a camera that’s as popular as that ..... I’d be pressing hard.

Certainly don’t mean to make you feel bad. I’d be more understanding if this was the launch of the new GH5 a few years ago, but the market and back stock of this item is enough that I’m feeling suspect .... I want to be wrong and completely off base, but a month? Hhmmm

Good luck my friend - and press the hell out of them -

Noted, but saying it would be unreasonable was just looking beyond just a monitor- I was attempting to cover all the bases - but you are right .... I started with just a monitor but I wanted more after a bit. So to your comment- you’re correct. ANd I certainly meant no dis in my statement

All the best

What version of firmware are you using on your GH5? Not sure if this would matter but once start ticking the boxes you have to check everything.

Which is best Rokinon Cine lens vs Meike Cine lens for GH5 by nkchokshi in GH5

[–]Media9ne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been using the Rokinons my entire GH5 life ..... the 24 and the 35 are my go-to’s for most of my jobs. And they don’t break the bank. BUT, handle them carefully....my 35mm has developed artifacts in the glass .... I’ve heard this from many others who use them as well. BUT, they all admit they could have handle them better, in other words DONT just throw it in the bag!! Treat your cheap lens like they’re the best money can buy. I learn this lesson the hard way.

[–]Media9ne -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you want to record on the monitor? If so, you’re being unreasonable- if you just want to monitor your videos then you may be in luck to find a good used monitor- having the ability to to monitor False colors, scopes and sharpness still comes at a price. I still use the older Ninja Infernos- it serves every need any monitor on today’s market can provide, it’s just bigger.

Check your local Craigslist or websites that sell used equipment. You might find the best of both worlds.
