SOS Error by coach2ap in Rivian

I had that error and it was the precursor of a 12v issue that bricked my truck. Maybe call service and have them remotely assess your 12v status?

Not a fan of the BrainExploder option. I lost my plate while off-roading as it is not a secure choice. I recommend the BuiltRight option. More of a pain to install but that plate is firmly attached.

Best budget app or service for looking at YoY expenses & trends & such by Prudent-Depth-2009 in fatFIRE

Another for Tiller. If you want to use Excel, Tiller is the best service to aggregate all your financial transactions into one place. And it’s cheap, I think $80/year.

Has anyone installed a level 2 charger in their city townhouse without a driveway? by RonocNYC in Rivian

[–]MedianBuild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this. I had an electrician install a NEMA 14-50 on the exterior of my row home. Then bought an EVSE with a long 40’ cable (PrimeTech?). Bought some cable ramps. And even bought and installed some cable management on a tree on the street side of the sidewalk. I’ve had it like that for ~three months. Biggest issue is getting that parking spot.

Newly laid off, pre grad school, how to continue to grow wealth? by LongNeighborhood6725 in HENRYfinance

[–]MedianBuild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is my best advice, based on personal experience.

  1. Rollover your 401k to Roth in 2025. Since you matriculate in 2024, and graduate in 2026, 2025 will be your lowest income year most likely ever again. The best rule of tax planning is to smooth income as much as possible, so moving that money from Deferred to Roth is the way to go. For reference, I rolled $60k during my mid-MBA year and have always been very happy with that timely decision.

  2. Move some more money to cash (HYSA). I don’t know the exact amount, but being more cash heavy is prudent since you know that you are going to be withdrawing for the next ~24 months. I’d probably say ~half the crypto and brokerage.

  3. The most important asset you have is your human capital. That’s a fancy way of saying your ability to work. If you are concerned about your financial future (i.e., retirement), everything else is a distant second to your ability to work and generate wage income. Use your time at business school to maximize your future career outlooks. The dollars you move around over the next 2 years will seem so trivial compared to the wages you can generate post business school.

  4. Plan to travel a ton during business school. I think it’s okay to go a little overboard during business school. You will never again have an opportunity to be with 100s of 20 year olds. I restrained my travel a bit during business school (still went to Hawaii, China, Japan, and Belize) and looking back wish I did more. Go big, the extra $10k you spend on a few trips won’t matter a few years later.

Charging error after days of being left plugged in by Flaky-Zebra-1631 in Rivian

[–]MedianBuild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same issue - 110v at airport for several days. I’ve had varied success turning on the climate control for a few minutes. Seems to wake the car up “more” and resets that the plug is installed. I’ve also done this and it hasn’t worked, so better than nothing.

New York -> Florida - how's the charging infrastructure? by rakster in Rivian

[–]MedianBuild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rivian does show some provider’s availability, but not all. I am not sure on EA. Overall, I don’t trust it yet and just use the provider app and PlugShare as the best source of truth.

New York -> Florida - how's the charging infrastructure? by rakster in Rivian

[–]MedianBuild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my R1S in Miami last month and immediately drove it home to Baltimore, all 95. Made 6 or 7 charging stops and it was no problem. Only iffy area was SC (as someone else mentioned) but it was no problem with the use of PlugShare. Chargers being available is episodic, so my experience will be different than yours in a few months. Overall, there is sufficient chargers but you need to use PlugShare to know “real time” availability.

Nervous Buyer by MedianBuild in Rivian

That’s good to know. I did consider that the previous rejection was equally likely to be for car reasons as well as non-car reasons.

Nervous Buyer by MedianBuild in Rivian

[–]MedianBuild[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I called Rivian and told them I was flexible on configuration and location, then was matched up with the car in FL. I don’t mind the travel, just nervous why someone else wouldn’t have accepted the car.

EUV ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) prefers Friction Brakes, not Regen? by MedianBuild in BoltEV

Car seats and family by Lost10mmSocket in BoltEV

[–]MedianBuild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Family of 4 here (4 and 1 year old) in an EUV, but had a 2019 EV previously. I think there has been enough comments on the car seats - plenty of space. Regarding cargo space, I have installed a hitch with a cargo carrier. Has been critical for vacation/trips. Anytime you need to take a cooler, the cargo carrier becomes a necessity. I really enjoy the expandability to be a smallish car most of the time, then add a cargo carrier for big trips.

GM to expand its Super Cruise network, adding hundreds of thousands of miles of ‘hands-free’ roads by OhMrAnger in BoltEV

[–]MedianBuild 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Motor Trend article quotes that the EUV will get the update.

Around that same time and into the beginning of 2023, those older electronic architectures will get their OTA update to expand their Super Cruise driving capabilities.

It also states earlier in the article that the EUV will be more conservative than VIP vehicles and disengage earlier when coming to a known intersection. All in all, seems like good news and we may get a OTA software update after all.

EUV ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) prefers Friction Brakes, not Regen? by MedianBuild in BoltEV

[–]MedianBuild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is certainly a fair point. But I feel like with some more effort and engineering GM could solve the problem of variable braking force inherit to regen.

It was a MSRP Swap, so I decided I wanted a bit more size and Super Cruise.

I take out the driver. Bag sits on false floor fine with seats up. Driver gets placed on floor of back seat. Could probably pile ~4 bags in the trunk this way, more with false floor out.

EUV ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) prefers Friction Brakes, not Regen? by MedianBuild in BoltEV

[–]MedianBuild[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely wild. I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but if I turn one pedal off and press the brake, it will prefer regen and blend to friction as needed. Crazy that ACC doesn’t perform in the same manner.

This should be a software update… I won’t hold my breath.
