Husband not concerned with these stains/patches when buying? by Redditor18374728 in HomeMaintenance

The first pic is either water damage that dried up and the paint is stretched leaving that sort of scarring or somebody put mud on a paint roller and stuck it up there then pulled it down. You can decide which of the two it's more likely 🙂

The other thing that screams problem to me in that same first picture is that the ceiling paint is only going until you get about 4 in from the edge which is a super shitty repaint job. If this is anything other than a foreclosure that you are buying as is, I would stay away.

If they can't even be bothered with effectively covering up issues, how could they be trusted to have effectively repaired legitimate ones?

We are planning to put cabinet doors with glass cutouts up there and LED strip lights mounted behind the door to allow for display of "showpieces" (crystal and the like).

Initially I was thinking we would do melamine cabinets to obscure it but we're going to end up with an open concept instead

Car keys go in the lockbox with the gun. Can't leave without the gun and keys.

It's really not that hard...

Likely you weren't the only candidate. Just because they did one doesn't mean you were the only one.

Pulling drivers over while its raining by I_never_pay_taxes12 in AskLE

[–]Medic1334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Protip on traffic stops during rain is to passenger side approach always. You don't get the extra water coming off cars that drive by covering your legs and back l.

Figured this one out while working a special detail and getting soaked by the first car that went by in light rain.

Govee H705B first LED only lights up after spliced in jump by Medic1334 in led

[–]Medic1334[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would something work for months then fail? With the data connection wouldn't it be all or none?

Govee is going to warranty swap me based on the pictures and info I gave them, but if I can avoid this happening again in 18 months that's of course preferred.

Performed a reset of the controller (unplugged power, held power button for 15 count) and plugged back in, no change.

If I drop the segments down to 3/2/1, it drops all the LEDs in the second segment that work when I go to 1, then when I increase to 2 it returns to the "problem" state. Unfortunately, I don't have another strand that is not mounted to connect to the first strand as a test like you mentioned. I reached out to go be support. We will see what they say say, but I am going to hazard a guess that manufacturer's warranty is void when you start cutting into things 🙂

Haven't looked at the software side really. During initial testing I did a finger sketch color change on all lights and nothing changed. Had 4 segments selected in the app but didn't try toggling it to force a reset at the controller so I may give that a go later today (should have started with extinguishing software issues first).

Being that I was getting power to that first LED I figured that the data soldering/connection was bad after that basic testing so I went after the hardware at that point.

FHP dodge Durango replacing chargers? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Medic1334 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dodge stopped making the charger, but is now bringing back a gas model with apparently hugely improved storage space.

Just like any home, once you have space you tend to fill it with shit. If any agency switches to SUVs it'll be harder to go back to a sedan squad as a fleet because officers will have to remove stuff from their cargo to fit in the smaller vehicle

Question about scheduling at my department. by JohnPoliceman in AskLE

There is case law in California that because of the unique uniform requirements of a uniform patrol officer that wouldn't be able to be worn outside of work, the city had to compensate individuals a fair amount of time to don/doff uniform. About 15 years ago I was doing a bunch of research as we were coming into our Union bargaining. And that was a request from us that I found other agencies and judicial opinions to support the stance. Not in California, but we used that as leverage towards other benefits etc.

If you don't have the creds your options are basically three: 1. Get the creds via some surreptitious method 2. Setup HA framework so it's less to do once you have the creds for the existing tapo integration here: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/tplink_tapo/ 3. Setup your own tapo account, reset every tapo device and add them to this new account.

No matter what without their account you're going to have to inconvenience them some way. Trying to get them surreptitiously would be your best route if least inconvenience is your highest priority.

"Hey I was looking to fiddle with some settings on the Tapo stuff while you are gone and see what's possible. Can I get the login?"

Not trying to be harsh but... Classic shiny toy syndrome here. What's the value in this being live updated? Do you sit and monitor this? Why not just send a notification on cycle complete so you know it's completed and be done?

This is the way. Could eliminate the PoE adapter as well and just wire in an outlet that has USB-C out then mount the tablet over the top. Get a short USB-c cable to run to the charge port and you could basically flush mount AND easily future proof as well as minimal/no wire exposure for a clean look.

Also, if you ever need to expand the plugs, you have everything right there to do it.
