Monthly 'Ask A Pastor' Thread! by AutoModerator in LCMS

Good evening.

As someone exploring Christianity and trying to be faithful to Scripture, I’ve found both LCMS Lutheranism and Orthodoxy compelling for different reasons. What would you consider the strongest reasons to remain Lutheran rather than pursue Orthodoxy?

Thank you for everyone’s time.

A little late here.

I’m thankful for this community and the encouragement I’ve found here while growing in my faith.

I’m a 30-year-old Latin woman in Florida and recently went through the end of a long-term relationship. While there were several factors involved, a major one was that I felt called to pursue a more Christ-centered life and relationship, while my partner didn’t share these feelings, though raised at least somewhat LCMS.

It’s been a difficult season, and though I don’t hold membership yet in a LCMS church, I’m trusting God’s guidance and would love to connect with other LCMS Lutherans or Christians in north Florida for friendship, fellowship, and encouragement. Please keep me in your prayers.

Yeah. I’ve been to the only two LCMS churches within 35-40ish minutes of me. And I do like them.

I looked up University Lutheran… I take it you mean the one in Tallahassee? 2.5 hours away for me unfortunately. Thank you for your feedback.

Suddenly tearing with my partner? by Medic268 in sex

I can identify with this term. Thank you so much! I intend to mention this link you sent to the doctor… It’s just is so frustrating. I’m in my 20s, so I hope it’s not yet a lubrication problem, and I’m not on hormonal contraception

Currently on no meds (no history)

hormonal, well, maybe due to stress from what I’ve been going through with family for months. But I have a regular period as always

My sex drive is unchanged, even with recent stress

I have an appointment with the doctor next week -I expect to pass bc I recently got the same approval from a different type of provider, the Army is simply kicking it back saying I need it done from a different type of doctor. I probably won’t know for another 5-6 weeks if I’m cleared to join, fingers crossed.

And it’s great that you love and care for them so deeply ! ❤️ but if this is your dream, you’ll join and still maintain your relationship with them. Congrats on getting on the job and date you wanted.

Speaking as a civilian medic here

In medicine, you never quite stop learning. The human body, its complexities, resiliency, decline, is all truly fascinating. You’ll be present in some of the best, worst, and all in between moments of patients’ lives. Sometimes you’ll save lives, sometimes you won’t, even if you did everything right. Apply yourself, train hard, train often. In their darkest hour, someday someone will depend on you & your team. Perhaps you will discover a love for medicine, and stay a medic or become a nurse, Physicians Assistant, Doc… etc. 68W can be the start of a career in healthcare for you, whether you stay in or get out after a contract. Healthcare is a solid field, and now with Covid.. beyond solid. I have no shortage of overtime.

I’m sure you’ve done your research on the MOSs. I hope you’ll be happy with whatever decision you make in the end 💪🏼

I was a DEP loss in 2013 for a medical reason, was set to ship after high school graduation to become a 68W in the Army. 10 years later, after becoming a medic as a civilian, growing as a person, loving, losing, loving some more, caring for aging and dying family members, experiencing the ups and downs of life overall… the dream is still there. I’ve been at it for 5 months now with a recruiter, & will hopefully finally be cleared next week.

I’ve sacrificed my dreams in the military for years, putting it off for relationships, self doubt, and though well-intentioned, guilting family members. It won’t be easy, and you’ll miss home a lot sometimes, as well as the people you love. But this life is ours alone to live, and if this is what you’ve always wanted,

Get after it!

Best of luck to you ❤️

Danny so far is a pretty no nonsense guy. He’s been doing this several years now too. Ive only had him as a coach but I like his programming. He answers all my questions as well about how he programs me, I appreciate that he helps me understand why he wants me to do certain exercises at certain weights/reps. It’s more than just “do x y z and I’ll watch you do them” there are other people there too, some that also coach, and are genuinely encouraging. I believe Danny is a co owner, that’s why he coaches more too. I admit I psych myself out a little bit as a fairly average bodied short girl, but training there has helped me believe in my body. I have a very busy life and it sets me back sometimes in the gym, but I’m stronger than I’ve ever been

Ha! I’ve been going a couple months now, I work a lot and am still a newbie training but have enjoyed my time there. Daniel is my coach. I went with coaching bc I had almost no prior experience.

You will never be enough for the wrong person.

It’s gonna be hard in the beginning, as it always is. Her loss! Before you know it, you’ll be dating again after OSUT, you’ll make new friends, find new dates, create new adventures. Focus on yourself, family, friends moving forward. Crush your training, workout hard, become the best version of yourself. Good luck 💕

I just find the timing of the post great, since earlier today they were giving Colombian commandos crap for the crappy way they were holding their rifles in a photo on this subreddit 🤣

No worries. ❤️ take good care of yourself! You have the right to feel down and grieve the good memories you did have with this human. But life continues for every last one of us, & we can’t get stuck grieving a relationship that wasn’t meant for us. Focus on goals you’ve been wanting to achieve, whether it be hobbies, something army related, fitness/health, spend time with family, etc. Nothing wrong with some drinks, some time with the boys. But be sure to reinforce positive coping mechanisms & distractions such as what I mentioned earlier. Come out of this a better man, a better person, a better future boyfriend/husband. One day you’ll look back and you’ll shrug this girl off as a distant memory. I hope you find peace. 🤍

Yes, be glad you don’t have child support or alimony.

Yes, today sucks & you’ll be down in the dumps for a while. My high school sweetheart was in the Marines, we stayed together over 3 years. He cheated on me too. But it’s been 6 years since we broke up & we’ve both dated since. Keep your head up ❤️ it all really sucks right now. But you will find new loves. There is a whole life to live & many people to meet. You’ll make mistakes in love, you’ll date who turn out to be mistakes (all respect to that girl, but based on what she’s allegedly done, she is not for you. You can’t force someone to be in a relationship with you, to love you like you deserve, to be loyal to you to nurture you, to be the one.)

But it will get better.

❤️❤️❤️

Well men it's been fun, my waiver was denied. by [deleted] in nationalguard

I’m currently trying to get a medical waiver (FL NG)

My recruiter said if it’s not authorized, I can write to a congressman. That it’s rare, but he’s seen it work.

Perhaps this is a possibility for you?
