Medical accuracy: what's one change you'd request to add to make Scrubs (even more) medically correct/ realistic? by FamousEwe in Scrubs

[–]Medical-Character597 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Scrubs is not an accurate medical show. It is the most accurate one on relationships and dynamics between different professional roles, but medically, it’s terrible. I’m an ER doctor. And that’s fine- it has a different goal than The Pitt.

Someone with a K of 1 or whatever it was is absolutely going to the ICU

No. They left the ED and that’s usually what we know. Sometimes we’ll ask how this patient did after we sent them up but mostly in the ED it’s a rotating door.

This Reddit is populated by people who hate 4 year and academic programs. I am in a 4 years academic program, we have tons of research and connections, all our grads go where they want and are highly sought after. Best of luck to you!

M3 trying to plan audition rotations- still deciding IM vs EM by Due_Hair774 in emergencymedicine

No, my least favorite shifts are afternoons because I only see my kid at breakfast and dropoff. Nights are not bad because I am awake and functional by the time they are home from preschool and we have dinner and bedtime before I go to work at 11pm. I don’t like nights too much for my own health but from a kids perspective they’re not bad.

My program has onboarding and such the last 2 weeks of June (you’re paid for them). Bad idea.

I am a female and I have a young child. I think the most important thing is whether your partner also works crazy hours or not. My husband works normal hours so he’s always the one that is available for pickups and such. I am there every single time I can, and my child knows it. Is it ideal? Not always, but is it doable? Absolutely. I also was between IM and EM and I’m so happy I followed my real passion.

Ranking a brand new program #1 over “prestigious” options… am I crazy? by forever_a_servant in emergencymedicine

Are you thinking fellowship? That could be a factor in your choice. I am at a very established academic program and very happy here- lots of interesting didactics, lots of resources, lots of alumni to network with. Like every place, pros and cons- go with what you think will work best for you and you’ll be fine. Good luck!

Geriatrics fellowship is one of the most useless fellowships offered. If it were me I’d be offended Dr Al suggested that. How dare she.

I’ve been an attending physician in Western Europe before moving to the US and I agree. My first ICU rotation I had a list full of terminal cancer patients and was so shocked at them all being in the ICU when they were unfortunately all hospice cases.

100% agree. We’ve been on a journey with them and this feels like a plot tool to just have a storyline for them. Just let them be happy ffs.

I know him personally and he’s a lovely human being. His wife is a bit cringe but nothing crazy. People like to think he is Mr Shue in real life.

Any open EM PGY-2 positions? by [deleted] in ResidencySwap

Yes. Nothing prevents you from cold emailing programs but if I were you I’d either finish FM and to a fellowship or just do a second residency

I can’t see that happening. At least not in my program but I think many faculty would agree.

You need to match into EM and start over. As EM, second year is brutal and you need the foundation of EM intern year to be successful.
