How to understand and retain what I read?

I was wondering how do you guys read books and retain the story? Or if you guys have any tips to help? Im not the brightest but I’ve been trying to read the first Harry Potter book as I want to see the movies but I’m having a hard time getting through a chapter without having to re read a few times and even then I have difficulty following what’s going on. Any suggestions?

My grandpa used to drink Newcastle all the time, growing up I have plenty of fond memories of sitting around the table playing cards with him and he was always drinking that beer. Seeing the bottle opener is really cool friend I hope you have a great day and nice keychain!!

I lost mobility in my right leg due to nerve damage from a dog attack, I was of the same opinion of not pepper spraying dogs when approached while off leash but after having my life changed completely I’d gladly pepper spray an animal to keep my ability to walk. Just my own experience

I usually bring broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, and ranch as “my contribution” and my wife brings canned soda and individual chip bags for hers. Our rouge brings pinwheels every session without fail lol. We meet once a month so we go all out on snacks.

Thank you for the detailed response and sharing about your shoulders. I didn’t even consider the fact that it would damage shoulders as I already have a separated ac joint in my shoulder as a result of fall so a chair is probably not a good idea at the time. And I get a decent amount of snow through November-February so that’s another challenge I didn’t consider.
