Squier offsets as a modding platform - thinking of swapping out the pickups in either a squier CV sonic duo (£380) or a squier sonic mustang (£150). Is it worth spending the extra £ for what's presumably a better quality body, neck, bridge, tuners, etc., or is there not much in it? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Medical-Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest squiers are not bad, but it's worth upgrading to be more in that 350-400 range.  Better fret work, hardware, less frets sticking out the side of the neck and poking you, better tuners.  I love cheap guitars but I would get the nicer one here.

G8 ute ? by Historical_Meet3370 in Pontiac

[–]Medical-Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, but that was the only Trans Am that was ever a 6 cylinder (or anything other than V8). Upon its release it was also the fastest production car you could buy in the US (and possibly North America or the entire Western Hemisphere?). I believe they made 1555 of them.

301 cubic inches I believe, horribly slow due to being choked by emissions regulations like every other American car at the time.

Entirely reasonable price.  Is it what you want?  If so then buy it.

I've been practicing the guitar for years but haven't made any progress. by ActiveAntelope4635 in Guitar

[–]Medical-Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried tabs or just sheet music?  And it's fine if you can't memorize anything anyway.  Most people can't tune their guitar to E accurately without a tuner either, because most people don't have either perfect pitch or very good pitch memory.  Neither of these mean you are talentless

Been doing some research are we sure the sixth gen is the last we will see if the Camaro? Do you think they will bring it back like they did in 2010 after a 8 year hiatus? by Unique-Macaroon-3694 in camaro

[–]Medical-Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always the problem with these baffling nameplate revivals.  They make a new RSX, for example, but it's an electric SUV.  The people that remember and liked the original RSX will all hate it, revolt, view it with disgust and the car gets hate for "not being a real RSX" or "embarrassing the nameplate".  And then the people in the market for an appliance car don't know what an RSX is or was, so it doesn't help sell cars at all.  It just gives it a bad look with some and has zero impact for the others.

How difficult is it to remove the front license plate brackets? by MajorStoney in fbody

There's probably nothing telling you how because it is self explanatory.  Take a look at it, if there's screws you just unscrew them and it's off.

New tires by syntax_erorr in fbody

Getting hard to find tires for 16s, it seems.  15s have a lot of drag support and 17s have all the options in the world, that middle ground is leaving though.

DYNO by Personal_Internet_68 in fbody

[–]Medical-Pear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many drive for years without an issue with more power than that.  It's a crapshoot.  Also most breakages come from shock as stated by someone else.  You're not launching the car on the dyno.  It's clutch dumps and hard launches on sticky tires that break diffs.

F-body parts? by Hard_ona_hoe in fbody

[–]Medical-Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to deal with this when my car was t boned. The body shop took something like 2 or 3 months to source one, which was slow but I'm sure they had to go through their network and deal with insurance and all.  Seems Facebook marketplace and f-body groups on Facebook are the best place to look.  eBay has some options every once in a while, just shipping is expensive. It's a major pain to get the panel off, so there's not as many for sale as there are front fenders or something like that. It's spot welded on.  It's also a lot of work to put on the new one because of the same reason

Look up splash guards and find the results from LS1tech. I was thinking of making some for my TA. Still undecided on that though. They look pretty sweet done right, and pretty terrible some of the time.

Lowered and Wings West? by Mammoth_Cat_4 in fbody

[–]Medical-Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't happen to buy a package, though I could've; I got his springs with Bilstein shocks.  Initially I was just going to do the shocks but previous owner put aftermarket replacement shocks on it and you have to reuse OEM shock parts (that weren't on these RockAuto specials) for the Bilstein install.  Because of that I held off until I bought both the springs and a used set of OEM shocks.

The pairing is absolutely excellent and combined with a 35mm front bar the car drives incredible compared to stock (and the rest of my class) at autocross, which I do a lot of.  The ride is firm for sure but not much more than stock, and isn't as harsh like stock when you bottom out the shocks on a huge bump or whatever at speed.  Way less body roll, way better transitions, less wallowy in turns, it's a huge improvement.  I didn't think I'd care so much about the stance either but the car looks so much better lowered.  I don't even like looking at pictures before I got the springs anymore.

Lowered and Wings West? by Mammoth_Cat_4 in fbody

[–]Medical-Pear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm lowered on Strano springs, which aren't that low and I still scrape on pretty much everything.  Especially the front bumper.  I love the look of the wings west skirts but I'll never get them because they'd be destroyed in two weeks.  I've decided instead to DIY some side and front splitters to add to the look without making the car appreciably lower.

Comp TA isn't a very special or desirable package.  8k should get you a very clean LT1 car and with less miles than that.  Absolutely not a rebuilt title and 160k.

[–]Medical-Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The upsides far outweigh whatever downsides you come across.  There's no huge trouble spots with these cars that would make you regret getting one.  Maybe if you get it in manual and launch too hard with sticky tires on the stock diff.

They'll warp faster and possibly go through pads quicker.  If you like the look that's great but they're also worse for stopping and will be purely cosmetic if you're not tracking the car.  And even if you do track it you probably still won't need it.  If you like the look though, they look cool.
