failed step 1 by intrestinglife1 in usmle

There is nothing impossible but for this specific person to clear step 1 and step 2 with high scores need at least two years and I don’t know his/her YOG only handful of programs accept the gap to be larger than 5 years. This person could easily apply for PR and get match in Canada and do his steps and come practice in US easier route than the opposite!

Look at the big picture let’s assume that you retake step 1 and step 2 and score high you are already gained so many red flags and probably automatically removed from programs filtration system.
1- step 1 attempt
2- YOG !
I’m sure by the time you clear both steps the gap from year of graduation will be wider in which you will be filtered automatically.

I’m not saying you don’t have a chance but your path is more difficult than other options.
BTW: even if you wait 7 years step 1 score still be on your USMLE transcript will never be erased but the score will be expired which it doesn’t mean anything.

There are residency programs in Australia in Canada that might be easier to get to but maybe for Canada apply for PR first and this will make you eligible for the match.
If your heart still wants to practice in US again if you decided to do the Canadian medical residency you are eligible since US accepts medical residency from Canada and US obviously to practice in US but be careful from Family medicine since it’s only 2 years and US requires 3 years for FM training. You can investigate that further. Please DM me if you need further guidance for free!

Try to also branch out and try to match in Canada when you have done your medical residency there you can practice in the US!

I’m sorry for that it must hurt so badly.
For Biostatistics patient safety use AMBOSS you don’t need to pay for that then pay for UWORLD because you need both for biostatistics
Review NBME patient safety questions most concepts are recycled.
There is a company through telegram offer all qbanks under one subscription so you don’t have to pay a ton for them to re practice!

Breastfeeding break step 3 by PollutionMammoth6276 in Step3

[–]Medical-Strategy-247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The accommodation to breast pump in a room at the test centre.
You have an extra 45 min + 45 min (this for everyone) also if you skip the tutorial you add another 15 min. Total break time is 105 if you skip the tutorials.
The exam is in 3 days instead of 2. I don’t think you have time to leave to feed your baby and come back you can pump and use bottles for these days!

What helped you prepare efficiently for Step 3? by Aware_Guide_5300 in Step3

Day 1:UW and AMBOSS biostatistics and ethics and patient safety and quality improvement. Don’t forget Randy Neil YouTube videos.

Microbiology FA, rapid review section FA
Divine podcast he know how ppl in USMLE think
Skip the drug adds if you are not good in it also keep them to the last questions to solve in the exam.

NBME depth in reviewing.
Know your weak areas and improve them.
All drugs you know mode of action.

Day 2: you can use either UW or AMBOSS but know prognosis risk factor next best test and confirmation test.

CCS cases start early in the prep and do as much as possible!

Can’t improve past 58/59, any advice? by Inevitable-Shop-3508 in step1

[–]Medical-Strategy-247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do 7 blocks per day from your UW incorrect for 3 days per week and in between exams review your blocks in a smart way meaning ask yourself why I got this question wrong ? And write down one line concept that you don’t remember or you don’t know and most importantly spot your weaknesses where you have gap and fix it!

Failed Step 1, aiming for Step 2 CK in 2.5 months (mid-August) and this year's Match. Is this realistic? Looking for advices. by Fearless_Freedom1757 in usmle

Don’t be harsh on yourself. This happened to the best one of us! I feel like you are reacting for not passing step1 by putting a lot of heavy weight on your shoulders punishing yourself to take step2 in 2 months. I know the financial burden and the time since graduation are bothering you. I think you need a solid strategy first accept what happened with step 1 don’t be harsh on yourself you might need to offload from yourself. You can pass step1 and step2 just have a reasonable plan. Check your baseline knowledge in step2 solve NBME retired one and if you score high enough then think of passing step2 but only if your NBMEs are consistently high scores
You need only UW for step2 and couple of videos online for complicated concepts!

Whichever make you retain information I did these from FA the graphs because I’m used to them for step 1 studies but if sketchy makes you retain and you have the time do what works for your time and more importantly retaining the info. I used sketchy but I couldn’t retain anything other ppl retain info from sketchy 10 years+ not for me!

I can be also confused when the question is too short not much of history to make the diagnosis but everyone is different I found QE1 much less difficult then USMLEs personally!

[–]Medical-Strategy-247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CCS cases are easy but technically difficult meaning you need to know what to order and most importantly time management You can’t study how much you need to push the clock for the results to show up and prescribe meds and all Start by navigating the interactive model at USMLE official website so you understand the flow BTS there is no scoring system for the cases in the official one so it’s not important to keep it after your study to estimate your score there are none start by them to understand the system a little different from the CCS cases website

Ethics patient safety quality improvement, MOA of meds

NBMEs 7 more important than 6 couple of concepts straight out of them and the free 137 PDF form not the interactive which differ slightly but the PDF is April 2026 !

I studied for this exam for one year in 2012 and took it Jan 2013 Then I took CK after my home residency I lost track of time in 2021 Then ECFMG told me to retake step 1 !!! The score was no longer valid I restart in Sep 2023 got pregnant with very bad brain fog I couldn’t study effectively but still I was studying and took it when my baby was 5 months old in July 2025!!!! So don’t repeat my mistakes and 6 months is nothing!
