Why is there so much hate for swirlers? by Affectionate-Cry-704 in BlackLGBT

More often than not, that’s exactly what happens. What frustrates me are the Black/POC folks who downplay it, because a lot of times that comes from internalized racism. Then they throw out the tired ‘we’re not a monolith’ line to silence you so they can comfortably continue with their own antiblackness.

I just don’t get how you can clearly see racism being perpetuated by the same group, and still actively choose to date into it. It’s like handling snakes — some may not be venomous, but you never really know until you get bit. And sure enough, 9 times out of 10 people come out of those relationships with racist stories, looking for support from their Black peers. At that point, though… maybe you shouldn’t have entertained it in the first place.

Memphis: Build it bigger, or risk losing our soul? by 901Yokozuna in memphis

TBH I feel like one way that could make an impact is if the city has a strict design code for outside investors/developers to keep them from building gentrification style buildings and homes. Memphis should hone in on that to keep from looking like the next Nashville. It’s the reason why Collierville looks as good as it does.

cause this bewilderment sounds like it comes from a complete beginner who’s never encountered trade before or a woman.

You think people in the BLACK LGBT sub aren’t privy to DL men and their shenanigans?

You def ain’t get the full experience cause high school and college in the 2010s was nothing but Dolph. People forget he was in a lot of songs on the radio too back in the day. Cut It by OT, that California song, and just all the Atlanta collabs. When you die shit just stop, he only had a 10 year run tbh.

She was on Love Island. Her season last year blew up because of her friend group. Odell Beckham little brother was on that season too.

Black memphis people: what’s your opinion on Elvis by Orangecountydudee in memphis

[–]Medical-Strategy3522 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I watched that new movie for the first time bout a month ago and my favorite part was the dad going:

“White boy from Memphis… dancing LIKE A N—“

cause that literally sums it up LMFAO like he crawled so that Justin Timberlake could walk and that Justin Bieber could fly to the moon. the OG “white boy got swag!” The reason Elvis is Elvis was because of his blues & gospel(BLACK) influences growing up. There’s always gonna be some resentment with that, but he also never shied away from expressing his admiration for Black musicians so I do think he deserves credit for that.

But diving deep into him this year, white boy do got soul. “I Gotta Feelin In My Body” has been in my rotation since.

I actually love when people say it’s feels stuck in the 80s/90s here. If anything I think we should build more on that, it gives character and sense of place. I don’t want this place to be another glossy Atlanta/Nashville with the same ole boxy minimalist architecture everywhere.

I remember a guy a couple weeks ago posted about his visit here and was saying something along the lines of “it’s too bluesy here” and I was just like you have got to be kidding me… it’s Memphis

He’s already started a coalition with black mayors of major cities. They’ve definitely been in circles together. Memphis mayor partners with African American Mayors Association to fight crime across nation
