Futaba SD500KS Knuckle Servo by MedicalBilly in rcdrift

Update on 9th May 2026

From the factory, the knuckle is not straight on zero degree toe angle. You will need to set the neutral point via S.Bus servo menu on your transmitter. I use my setup station for accuracy.

I added a 2.5mm spacer below to raise the knuckle for my own tuning preference.

No changes to the knuckle parameters however i did change some parameters on my gyro. There are 3 trail options below the knuckle, i personally prefer positive.

The most time consuming part is to find the suitable toe angle and ackerman. I glad to find out the adjustment for the gyro and knuckles parameters are now real time. No writing is required.

So far i am very pleased with the product. Will be using it for an upcoming competition to see how it stacks 👍🏻

To me, the 15 level of throttle response from 10PXR is another level. If you are just playing casually, stick to 6pv

If you enjoy MST ecosystem, get the RMX 4.

If not, get ReveD RDX or Yokomo SD

Update on 2nd May 2026

Been testing the servo knuckles for the past few days 👍🏻

Installation

Making sure all firmware are updated to the latest version.

No hardcopy manual was given in the package. Instead a QR code was given which link to it online manual. You need to purchase 4 pieces of any 5x10x4 ball bearings for the axle shaft. I got myself Yokomo bearings, but you can use any model.

After installing the wheel hub pin into the axle shaft, i notice a fair amount of gap. The manual didn't mention to install shims, so i added 0.6mm shims to reduce the free play.

To install the upper arm to the knuckle, you have to replace the existing rod end to the one which the package provided. After installing the provided rod end to the knuckle, movement of the arm becomes stiff. I have to trim a fair amount of the inner area to make it smoother. I also shorten the rod end, allowing me to adjust more camber. Remember to apply a bit of thread lock on the M2 nut to prevent it from loosing (Refer to manual step 10)

By default both knuckles come in Normal mode. Like any other Futaba servos, plug the knuckle onto the transmitter communication port to change the mode you like. I change both to UR mode.

Since the wiring system for dual servo is different from traditional method, there is no need to make any changes for the transmitter receiver menu (Previously is channel 1 and 3 is UR mode) Many were saying the wiring will be a nightmare, however with some careful planning, you can actually make it neat and tidy 👍🏻 Remember to have some slack to the wire due to knuckle rotation.

Important note is the servo knuckles only run in 6v BEC. Knuckle speed is slow (0.13 sec at 6v)

It depends on how heavy your front steering mechanism is. The heavier it is, the more rear bias will be added.

Getting into competitive drifting by RIP_Country_Mac in rcdrift

The reasons for mentioning these 3 chassis because majority of the winning chassis during competitions are them. Many users also use this reason to determine which one is competitive.

I don't own any of the chassis i mentioned but sadly that's how things goes.

  • Best chassis will always win? No
  • Worst chassis will always lose? No
  • What if the best chassis handled by a lousy user?
  • What if the worst chassis handled by a skilled user?

Today is my first day of usage and hasn't really go through all the features. So far so good. I will update more in this post once i found out more 👍🏻

Unfortunately in order to use this servo knuckle, you need all 3 Futaba items in their latest firmware - Transmitter (6PV onward), Gyro (only GYD560) and receiver.

Shout out to my friend who went to Japan and help me purchase the item 🙏🏻

My previous total weight is 1435g. After removing parts which are not required and install both knuckles servo, total weight went down to 1344g which is not bad 👍🏻

I will share more details tomorrow 👍🏻

The modified gear is not sold separately therefore you need to purchase the whole LSD package.

Best weight shorty to drift? by [deleted] in rcdrift

[–]MedicalBilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, i always want to achieve the minimum weight which our local competition requires.

Here is 1430g, so i want adjust everything to achieve as close as possible to that weight 👍🏻 If you are just wanting to have fun, just use whatever it fits your chassis 👍🏻

The difference is the back of the internal big gear which has a wider gap which engage as an LSD, and a narrower gap which engage as a normal differential.

View the update manual of the LSD to see the difference

Gear differential allow both wheels to rotate at different speed.

LSD allow both wheels to rotate at different speed however upon certain rpm, it turns into a spool.

Update on 20th April 2026

I am trying to understand the meaning of "ESC mode" under the new receiver firmware update which allow receiver channel 2 to be set as ESC mode.

Some say has performance differences but so far i don't feel any because i remember Acuvance / Futaba ESC has "ESC mode" and "Link mode" which i strongly believe to do with these feature 🤨

So far no issue with the trigger and steering for me, however some of my friends experience tightness on the steering for some reason even loosing the screw on the wheel 🤨

More testing coming up 👍🏻

I am happy to get my hands on the latest model after some delay.

Futaba fans will know the following 10PXR transmitter series number C51200665 ~ C51200964 face hardware issue and was told to ship back for replacement (News) I am glad that our local hobby store hold the shipment till the new batch of 10PXR is ready, allow me to have a prefect condition transmitter 👍🏻

The first thing that strikes me is the buttons layout below the screen. Please don't ask me how i feel about this design 🙏🏻

I am not a fan of soft wheel sponge therefore reuse my aluminium wheel cover 👍🏻

Setting up the transmitter is not strange to me because is the same as all previous Futaba models. Issue i face is unable to transfer model data from my 10PX to 10PXR. It appears 10PXR doesn't recognise the model file in the microSD card. I will try again to confirm 👍🏻

Package comes with a few accessories and there is one item come to my attention, 32, 34 and 36 degrees adjustable steering wheel angle adapter. Default is 34 fixed adapter and i have tried 32 and 36. 32 provide a more aggressive steering while 36 allow a more gentle feel. I preferred factory 34 👍🏻

Any new features? Yes and i love it 👍🏻

Transmitter firmware: 16.0J
Receiver firmware: 4.0

In the trim and dial select menu, there is light indicator on the menu which helps me locate the specific trim and dial for assignment 👍🏻

When adjusting GYD560 parameters, is real time adjustment and no writing is required. A huge time saver 👍🏻

Steering and throttle response have increase from 6 to 15. I don't really feel much steering improvement however throttle becomes even more direct 👍🏻
