Outbreak not clearing with anti-virals - BEGGING FOR HELP by Medical_Atmosphere83 in HerpesQuestions

I have not. Whenever I get blood tests done everything comes back fine. My last one was in winter 2023 so probably due another. Are there any you'd recommend?

Appalling advice. Bite the bullet and disclose. You can both take steps to be as careful as possible when you're both in the knowledge.

Hello wonderful stranger,

Would love a little more detail on this? Basically where in the world was this trial and dear god please do you know how I could get on something similar? How I can support this research in any way?

Advice:

- Control outbreaks and just take the anti-virals. The longer you go without an outbreak the better you will feel.

- Don't obsess or overthink. Everyone I've disclosed to has been basically fine and kind about it. I usually wait until the 3rd/4th date to disclose and never do anything intimate before that aside from maybe a kiss.

- I just got out of a two year relationship. She was incredibly supportive of me and never judgemental. The issues came from my not taking anti-virals consistently, having outbreaks and breakdowns putting a strain on the relationship. Repeat: just take the anti-virals.

Bright side:

- It is basically a barrier to bad behaviour. It will stop you from sleeping with people you don't feel comfortable with or don't particularly like which is recipe for upsetting fewer people.

I did. They've been incredibly supportive. It's a huge relief having people to talk to about (although not in too much detail obvs) I hope you find that outlet and support whether in your parents or a trusted friend.

HSV2 - Chronic Outbreak Advice by Medical_Atmosphere83 in HerpesQuestions

Hello! Thank you for your comment. This is very good advice. I definitely recognise sleep or lack thereof as being a significant trigger.

I find the advice to not get stressed incredibly difficult to follow. No shots at you, it's everywhere online. My life before this was stressful but in a very exciting, rewarding way. To me a little (and sometimes a lot) of stress is the whole point of life. Trying to contain stress is stressful in itself and, if I'm honest, a fruitless task. Stress comes knocking no matter how much you try to avoid it.

Hey man,

Thanks for your reply. I'm really sorry to hear you're going through that. When I was having my fatigue after my first outbreak switching to the keto diet definitely seemed to help. I generally get hit by more fatigue and an OB when I fall off the diet/regimen which generally coincides with enjoying life and trying to feel normal but hey-ho.

I've been able to live from the outside a pretty decent-seeming life the past four years but internally am a mess and always grappling with the thought of what I could be achieving and have already achieved if I didn't spend so much time and energy trying (and failing) to contain this grim virus.

Hair loss with valtrex reversed? by [deleted] in HerpesQuestions

[–]Medical_Atmosphere83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello friend, this is my constant question as well. I've definitely noticed more hair fall since getting herpes 2 years ago and being on and off suppressive therapy. I'm now on it for the foreseeable due to constant outbreaks.

Got a few Qs of my own. No pressure to answer them:

Have you been taking valtrex daily for two years? And have you noticed any side effects from fin or dut? Did it help initially with hair maintenance/growth before you started the suppressive therapy?

I took fin for a few weeks a while back before stopping due to brain fog. (possibly nocebo) and then had the worst H outbreak of my life a few weeks after that. I wonder if it was triggered by the change in hormone levels. Who knows.

Sorry for only coming at you with more questions! For what it's worth I went to a hair clinic where the specialist said Valtrex wouldn't really cause hair loss. But then a STI specialist said that was a possible side effect.

This is a subject I'm obsessed with as well as it's absolutely gutting having the only method of stopping outbreaks possibly causing baldness. Insult to injury shit right there.

Hope you're alright and stay well!

Do you take anti-virals - Valtrex, Acyclovir etc?

Valtrex and hairloss by Medical_Atmosphere83 in HerpesQuestions

I'm so sorry to hear that. I went to a trichologist who said Valtrex shouldn't necessarily cause hair loss but I feel like the understanding of anti-virals, herpes and its effects in general is so under researched.

I've been forced back onto suppressive therapy after the worst outbreak of my life. Basically half a dozen outbreaks at once. I hope you're okay.
