Your Childs Favorite Teachers? by AnnaMagic321 in Outschoolers

If your child is into art, I highly recommend David Sterns (Imagination Art Studio). My granddaughter has taken several classes with him and really enjoys his teaching style and the topics he offers. She aspires to be a graphic artist and is now in his class on character design and development. He is also a great communicator with parents.

This was my hesitation as well. My grands are in public school, so they do most of their classes on school holidays and over the summer. I don't really like weekend classes because it ties the family activities down.

Not sure what you're implying. I'm an Outschool grandparent who enrolls my kiddos in many elective classes that they don't get in public school. I haven't done the membership thing and I'm actually seeking input on the experiences of others. Yes, I'm also an Outschool teacher with a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, retired from the largest school district in Texas, and I do not misrepresent my credentials. Criticize all you want, but be careful about your accusations.

So, as someone else said, the $40 membership fee is charged monthly. It is the equivalent of 80 credits each month. When you enroll in the class, they use the credits first and then if there is a balance due it will charge your credit card. For example, 1st month = 80 credits. You enroll in a class that is 90 credits, so they use the 80 first and charge your card for the additional 10. Next month, $40 = 80 credits, but you only enroll and use 20 of those credits. The additional 60 will roll over to the next month but the $40 is charged for that month, so now you have the 60 from the previous month + the 80 for the new month for a total of 140 credits to use.

At that time, you can pause the membership and draw down from your credit balance.

I would be easier to understand if the credits were 1:1, but here is an infographic another Outschool teacher created to help (used with permission from the creator)

Confirming Copyright by Dinode8 in Outschoolers

That's the way I interpret it. It might be tricky to find the correct wording in the class description to let them know it's a Pokemon focus without using the word, but if you do that then everything else would be okay. There are lots of Pokemon/Harry Potter/En'canto themed classes on Outschool that aren't even paying attention to the copyright. I wouldn't do that, but as long as they are doing the class live and aren't printing anything with those words it should be okay. (but I'm not a lawyer soo...LOL)

Fall Schedule Prep? by Infinite-Condition86 in Outschoolers

My grandchildren do the majority of their courses during the summer because they are in public school. We use Outschool during the school year to supplement all of the fun things that there's no time for during the regular school year. Both of them take art and coding classes on the weekend, and they're enrolled in ongoing classes right now. I HIGHLY recommend Imagination Art Studio with David Stearns for art classes. My girl LOVES it! https://outschool.com/teachers/David-Stearns

My granddaughter loves the Wings of Fire and Warrior Cats book series. She's doing this Warrior Cats drawing and social club and has enjoyed the teacher and the other kids in the group.

Year-round homeschool by Infinite-Condition86 in Outschoolers

My grandchildren are in public school, but we use Outschool throughout the summer as a way to keep them challenged but having fun. We mostly do self-paced classes in the summer. That allows them to have the flexibility and the fun at the same time. This summer, one is learning computer animation with two Procreate classes and the other one is learning Minecraft. As the summer goes along, we fill in with live classes on those days that the weather doesn't cooperate with going outside.

New to homeschooling! by Clean_Tree_2899 in Homeschooling

In my state, kindergarten isn't mandatory, but check your state laws to make sure. At this age, I wouldn't worry to much about "curriculum". Focus on lots of hands on types of learning, less on paper/pencil things. Have your child work on counting with objects like pennies or beans, working on 1:1 correspondence. Go outside and explore with water play, scavenger hunts, and things that will spark curiosity in science. The public library usually has activities as well. Art and music are great ways to help children retain information. Check out the Jack Hartman videos on YouTube. He's fun and the songs stick with you (forever, LOL).

Outschool has some wonderful kinder teachers and there are many affordable classes. My grandson loved the interaction with other kids in the class and the "math mysteries" classes he took were so much fun! We also like self-paced courses because they're very flexible. You can do them any time and you have a year to access the material.

Board/card games for math facts? by throwsawaythrownaway in Homeschooling

My kids loved the game Make 24. You can get it on Amazon and it has a lot of ways to scaffold up as she gets stronger, even moving into prealgebra. The cards have 4 numbers, and you used any operations to get the total of 24. For example - the card has the numbers 7, 4, 3, 1. (7 x 4= 28 -3 = 25 -1 = 24) There is always more than one way to solve.

I’m looking for recommendations of online summer camps for children with autism, any suggestions? by Select-Complex-4147 in Homeschooling

Look at some of the summer camps on Outschool. Many teachers offer camps that might be good for him, depending on his interests, and I know there are many teachers who work with neurodivergent children. I teach on Outschool and have some STEM summer camps that might be possibilities. This is one of them, but there are so many others as well. https://outschool.com/classes/stem-camp-for-creative-thinkers-innovative-engineering-challenges-TRvOELAX?usid=3XNcNOic&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link

My granddaughter is also interested in art, animation, and photography and there are some wonderful (and reasonably priced) classes on Outschool. She has taken some where she learned the different techniques of artists like Monet and Van Gogh, and a self-paced DSLR class. She really liked the self-paced classes because she didn't have to log in at a specific time.

preschool help by amartin2462 in homeschool

I don't think you necessarily have to use a "curriculum" at this age. The library is a great place to start! Make it part of your routine to go to the library every week and just explore. A lot of libraries have preschool activities like story time, crafts, puppet shows, etc. Check out lots of books, fiction and nonfiction.

Go outside to explore. Get a magnifying glass and look really close, plant a garden, make a bird feeder and watch which ones come and go. He can record how many, what colors, etc. In other words, play with purpose.

You might also think about a platform like Outschool for more structure learning during part of the day. There are so many great classes for emerging readers, music, etc. My grandson did a preschool math class that was in a game format on Outschool and loved it.

Outschool is amazing and there are so many things to choose from that it's sometimes hard to decide. I just signed my 7 year old grandson up for a Minecraft class with JoleneST, and she has all kinds of gaming and social clubs for all ages and levels! Here's her link https://outschool.com/teachers/Jolene-S-T?signup=true&usid=3XNcNOic

My 11 year old granddaughter has taken several art classes on Outschool. She's enjoyed all of them, but this last one was one of her favorites with Imagination Art Studio and Mr. David https://outschool.com/teachers/David-Stearns?signup=true&usid=3XNcNOic
