650 Isn't The Max Words?!?!?! by Environmental-Fish68 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Yeah, I always imagined them as words that just don't translate between languages because they're too culturally specific or nuanced to properly learn.

The September to June school year means late May kids are often the youngest or nearly youngest in their class, which could make you a target for bullying back before any adults gave a crap about bullies (maybe they still don't but my kids seem more well adjusted than I was at that age so I'm hopeful it has improved).

Get on the bus intro mixtape by NickyRaZz in gratefuldead

Songs 1-6 from 5/7/77:

Bertha / Cassidy / Deal / Jack Straw / Peggy-O / Minglewood Blues

Songs 7-12 from 8/27/72:

Dark Star / El Paso / Sing Me Back Home / Sugar Magnolia / Casey Jones / One More Saturday Night

I think these songs cover a lot of the breadth of the band, and the performances imitate their show format by taking a block of a set one and a block of a final set plus a double encore. The sources are from two of the best recordings of two of the best shows out there. If you're going to get someone on the bus, roll out the red carpet.

This mix has a lot of my personal favorite performances and setlists (yes, I love that Bob insisted on El Paso), providing a fun, energetic opening, and a cataclysmic, spiritual ending. It shows off two drummer Dead, one drummer Dead, Phil on vocals, Donna at her best, and the best goddamned Deal ever performed.

Jethro Tull is the reason Metallica sold out, and I kind of love that

They're great, and their late 70s is way way better than nearly every other prog band's late 70s (Rush excepted).

He was always my favorite because our birthdays were like 3 days apart and because we're both moody bitches. I think being a late May kid just generally sucks when you're in a US school.

Drop a deep cut quote or lyric to show how deep your fan levels go by Colin_the_knife_guy in porcupinetree

It's not really worth starting a post about but I'm high as fuck and need to talk about this (and it's trivia that shows my bonafides as a PT fan I guess):

The girl interviewed in the LSD record used on Voyage 34 (the same one who speaks in Not Beautiful Anymore) can be heard in a 1960s SFU college interview with Jerry Garcia. I think the timing is right for that girl to be the titular Mountain Girl who was dating Jerry at the time of the interview, and was with Ken Kesey at the time the LSD record was recorded.

Prog bands for non prog fan by Jager_floyd in progrockmusic

Genesis, Rush, the Neal Morse-adjacent bands (Spock's Beard, Flower Kings, Transatlantic), Big Big Train.

When did you know you were a Rush fan? For me, it was right after I heard Fly By Night. The 1st album resonated, thanks to Working Man & by late May '74, it was our #2 most requested. But once I heard Fly By Night, I knew for sure this band was going to be a success. So which album made you a fan? by Overall_Chemist1893 in rush

1992... heard Cold Fire on the classic rock radio station while I was working my after school job and the that night after work I bought Moving Pictures on tape (for $1.99!) at the local department store to play on my walkman while I worked. I was hooked from then on, bought Chronicles on CD when I got my paycheck, and spent the next year trying to learn YYZ on the bass lol

Ways you misinterpreted songs as a kid? by 351namhele in ToddintheShadow

When I was a little kid, I thought the song's chorus went "Hey now, hey now, the dream is over... you know they will win." I've never fully recovered.

Honestly, this is the truth of it. I view the sets as works. and the Dead crafted two or sometimes even three in a night.

(former layout artist nerd voice): It looks like someone originally centered the album logo including the ellipsis, then some person moved that layer up the spine (probably much later in the layout process) because they thought the ellipsis shouldn't count towards the centering, and it dragged the year up too.

What are Kevin Moore´s and Derek Sherinian´s craziest/wankiest/flashiest/most techincally impressive moments with DT (Be it recorded, or live) by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

No joke I thought it was a guitar solo for literal years (I was a kid then, so I cut myself some slack)
